I'm interestd in seeing how airbenders will be treated in the new world. I know the air nomad way of life appeals to those rescued/seen in season 3 and all. But still, these are random people getting air bending, which I assume is going to continue to happen slowly until things level out. Also about how the earth kingdom is going to react to their citizens still developing powers, like will they be accepted or ostrichized the closer one gets to ba-sing-se. Or what happens to those who don't want ot be nomads. Even what might happen to the idea of a first airbendeing regiment. I mean, if you got ride of the who secret kidnapping camps stuff, you could probably find some air benders patriotic enough to probably sign up for that sort of thing willingly. After all, living as part of a military unit and getting the social caste that comes with it would certainly beat poverty.

The entire Earth Kingdom is in anarchy by the end of the season. It started in Ba-Sing-Se and then spread out as news spread of the earth queen's death.
Also, fun fact. '"Venom of the Red Lotus" is the one hundredth episode of the Avatar franchise. It is the franchise's highest rated episode on IMDb and, as of its release date, the only one to receive a ten star rating, with over four hundred reviews.'

Neat. Doubly neat actually. But I was referring to later on, couple decades or so. Since that's when the rp was gonna be set I thought.
Wait a minute. Avatar is reborn every time the old one dies, not based on time or anything. So in theory, this rp could be set in as short a time as, say, 15 years after ledgend of korra. I suddenly got a very bad feeling about korras survival this season.

Well based on how often Korra gets her butt kicked and how many times she's already almost died only to be miraculously saved, I'm half expecting her to trip down the stairs.

I keep wondering how many Avatars die before doing anything.

Alright rewatching I caught the comment that only some waterbenders are born with the ability to heal, so that needs to remain a specialty.
As avatars dying, that one that got his face stolen always cracks me up. Must have been embarrassing.

As avatars dying, that one that got his face stolen always cracks me up. Must have been embarrassing. Apparently, the Airbender before him had a very busy career bringing about world peace, so he had a lot more free time to get into trouble... which lead to Kyoshi having to pick up the slack.

I really want Koh the Facestealer to show up in the physical world

That's the big hope of mine. Dealing with the spirits that aren't so friendly. Koh would be the perfect go-to.

I doubt it will happen considering the theme of this season, but it'd be cool. Reviews for be premiere are up already and pretty stellar. Kuvira is apparently a badass. It's going to be rough choosing between fire and metal....and blood. God damn I'm indecisive.

I'll be a little sad if all Kuvira wants is to take over the world. I'm also a little miffed at the lack of Red Lotus discussion. Still, its only the first episode.

I don't think we've ever seen someone heal themselves during a fight...

Because noone ever really gets injured by being burned or bashed by giant rocks or drowning.
For this RP, I'd like to correct that, if possible.

My point is that I think it takes too much concentration to do in the middle of a fight.
Agreed though. Think we're going to up the violence factor considerably.

Does it state that only some can heal without formal training or that some are incapable of doing it even with training? From what I understand all water benders have the capability to heal they just have to learn how to do it where as some such as katara are able to do it without formal training. Also healing during a battle would probably be disasterous..

When Katara learns she can heal it's in one of the earlier episodes when Aang accidentally burns her. The firebending master that taught Zhao said something about her being a healer and that some of the waterbenders in the northern tribe are born with the ability.
Either way, it's clearly a subset that requires specialized training which would put it on par with lightning bending, metalbending, and the other specialties. It's basically just a cuddly wuddly form of bloodbending.

Alright, that's fair but that's what I was saying with katara it just came natural to her without training.

Well, I've been thinking that what Amon did to benders was essentially Bloodbending + Healing + wee bit of training with chakras = 'Permanent' Chi blockage.

Okay if you are still here, that means you want to read my thoughts on the new episode. It was awesomeee, where to begin with the fangirlingggg. Um. 1. Asami and Mako have aged and physically matured quite a bit. Mako is finally acting like a man, not an emo brooding teenager. Asami is the CEO of Future Industries, doesn't have a boyfriend and doesn't seem to care (and certainly isn't impressed by Prince Wu's advances). Ugh I've always loved how feminist this show is. But that's a whole 'nother post. 2. Speaking of Prince Wu, LOL. 3. I had a feeling the rail system would come up in this season! It was foreshadowed heavily in the comics and it just seems to be an obvious progression. I quite like it, even though these technological changes are making an already small-ish world even smaller. 4. I loved seeing Opal and Kai working together to protect the province of Yai in the Earth Kingdom. I've always liked Kai as a character and I like Opal more now that she isn't quite as sugar-sweet. Their batsuits are cool and appropriately superhero-y given their new role as the substitute Avatar, but am I the only person who misses the gliders? Gliders are great. 5. I liked how they showed the far more limited power that a world savior has when he/she has just one bending skill. Opal and Kai try mightily againt the earthbending bandits, but the two of them together are still like a thousand times less effective than one Avatar. 6. Kuvira is so fucking awesome, and not just because Zelda Williams' voice acting is great. She's a power-hungry megalomaniac military conqueror, but she's portrayed SO MUCH BETTER than Ozai, Zhao, or Unalaq. She's actually even better than Zaheer, and this was all just in one episode. I have been searching for a great Avatar antagonist for so long! Azula was my favorite initially, then Amon almost replaced her but then didn't, Zaheer had potential too but then meh, but Kuvira is awesome. I wonder if Kuvira is based on Emperor Ti of China? He was also known as "The Great Uniter" - although she'd be a twisted, dark version of him if she was based on him. 7. I cracked up hard at the revelation that Kuvira is engaged to one of Suyin's sons. LOL, what is up with Camp Metal Clan? Apparently Suyin has the kind of authority over them that Elizabeth II has over the UK. 8. and speaking of that couple, I kind of love that Kuvira is clearly at least a decade or like 15 years older than her boytoy. Clearly she was biding her time and waiting till he was legal before cougaring the fuck out of him. I love that Avatar is portraying a couple like this. It was already pretty progressive in that it has lots of badass yet attractive older women, but we haven't seen a couple like this before or even an alpha female-beta male romance. I'm interested to see where that goes. Clearly they're going to break up at some point but I hope it's interesting until then. 9. Opal's brother has better taste than Opal does, however. Bolin is still astoundingly, thunderingly, shockingly stupid. Seriously? Is he really this clueless about his boss Kuvira, and this easily manipulated, and this stupid? Really? ...Really? 10. Pro-bending gets some more attention. It's interesting to see that in the Earth Kingdom, bending tournaments are still gritty, scary, lawless fighting rings, not sleek professional arenas like in Republic City. 11. Korra being off the grid is interesting. It's a weird parallel to Aang because Korra always wanted to be the Avatar. This is the first time we're seeing her run from it. I like the development and am curious to see where it goes. 12. I also think Korra is much more attractive when she isn't wearing her Water Tribe sweatpants. And she's cute with shoulder-length hair. And her face has matured, like Asami's. This season will be gooooood, I think. Ok now that I've watched it, I can tackle some of this. I agree that it was awesome! 3. Well as the show map clearly took its influence from Japan, the introduction of the rail system is just a mirroring of the introduction of railways to Japan during the Civil War in the 1870s. That "making a small world smaller" bit is the point and I love that they're mirroring history a bit to show the massive advantages that brought an industrialized military versus a traditional force. 6. Kuvira was the best part of the episode! At this point I think "megalomaniac military conqueror" is a bit of a stretch, though I'm sure it'll get there. Not sure I should admit this, but I love her and her ideals. She's military order embodied. I'm sure she has darker plans, but at this point she's a hero rather than a villain in my mind. In times of chaos, you declare marshal law. Because of her intervention a whole village was saved from starving. So what if it means they have to tow the line? Anarchy calls for a firmer hand. 7. Well I guess that answers my claim that Suyin was either evil or grossly incompetent. 9. Once again I think you're too hard on Bolin. Honestly, I'd be happy to follow Kuvira as she's currently presented. She's an ideal military officer, charismatic, and a strong leader. Maybe I'm shocking thunderously stupid as well, but I would have been first in line to sign up for reigning in the anarchy through some good old fashioned military order. I respect Bolin more now for the decision and it's shown the benefits of the military on formerly useless people like him. He's already a more disciplined man who genuinely feels like he's helping make the world a better place. Kuvira might have nefarious plans down the road, but as she's presented now I think Bolin has made the best life decision in 3 years out of everyone. I'm very excited for this season. Can't imagine a way it could have started on a stronger note.

Thing that gets me is that Kuvira was introduced with the Red Lotus theme playing. So I'm trying to figure out what her deal is... Also, it can't be a coincidence that Zaheer's backup in the finale were all earthbenders, with at least two metalbenders. Alas, one episode has done nothing to enlighten us.

I keep thinking it would it be hilarious if Zaheer met Guru Laghima in the Spirit World, told him how awesome his anarchist philosophy was, and was answered with, "I was talking about spirituality, not politics, you psycho!"
