The gardens of the Red Keep, only planted within the last twenty years, are still fairly small but beautiful nonetheless.

Princess Daenya had spent the morning on dragon back, as well as doing some training in the yard and decided to go relax in the gardens. She wore a pretty white dress that fell off the shoulders, wispy material sticking a little to her shape but not too much, on her feet white sandals. Her hair was lightly curled and she had a rose in it, her lips painted red.

After a while, she hears footsteps coming towards her and a man's voice, whistling a tune. She recognises it as 'The Bear and the Maiden Fair.'

Daenya smiled and began to hum along, before turning around to see who was whistling.

A young man emerged from the trees. He was tall and handsome and she thought she might have glimpsed him at the feast the other night. "Ah, a princess of the forest," he said. "You look like you were born here, my lady."

"Am I covered in branches and moss?" Daenya asked chidingly, though she smiled as she did so. "I cannot help but recognize you, ser, though I do not know your name." She curtsied and held out her hand to him.

"Axell Blackwood," he said. "Just passing through on my way to rejoin the army.
He bowed, took her hand and kissed her fingers.
"You wear a rose," he pointed out. "And your dress is as delicate and pretty as a flower. A crown of flowers would suit you even better. The queen of summer."

"A crown of flowers, hmmm?" Daenya asked, pointing to a small patch of daisies on the ground. "Perhaps you would accept a quest from me, Ser Axell, and prepare for me a crown?" She giggled. "You would have my life long gratitude."

"I would be honoured," he vowed. "And what will be my reward, if I am successful in my quest"?
He sat, patted the ground beside him and started to pick the daisies.

Daenya smiled and sat down beside him, leaving a respectable distance however.
"I have not decided yet, good knight, though no doubt it will be a fitting reward."

"In the tales, the princess gives her knight a kiss and names him her champion," he pointed out, deft hands already getting to work. "I have always wished to be a lady's champion. And if the lady is a princess, that is even better. I wish I could make you crown all of roses."

"Well perhaps I will name you my champion then, Ser Axell," Daenya said with another giggle. "You will have to tell me of your exploits however, else how will I know that you are a great and powerful knight worthy of protecting a princess?"

"Perhaps you shall just have to take my word for it," he replied, then grinned up at her from his work. "I fought my first campaign in the West, with the Crown Prince. And I've been fighting at Bitterbridge too. I am on my way there when I leave court. But I came in case there was any news our men in the south need to hear. The war has always been fiercest in the south, as you know. Lots of small battles, and they say the next battle of Oldtown will be the hardest of all. I was still a squire when Prince Maeron was killed at Oldtown, and my master and I weren't there."

"That is already quite the amount of battles you have been in, Ser Axell. May I ask how old you are?" She happily watched him making the crown of daisies, taking the rose from her hair and setting it down on her lap.

"I'm twenty," he said. "A man grown to be sure. I will not ask my princess' age, of course. My mother told me it is not polite to ask a lady's age." He grinned again. "Have you ever been to war?"

"I have not, though I really wish to assist my family in the war," Daenya told him. "I want to see some distant lands too, however. I have been reading about the Summer Islands, how they wear feather and strange clothes and jewellery. I would love to visit!"

"Oh. Seems odd to me. I've never been to such a place," he confided. "No dragon, you see." He winked. "Do they truly wear feathers? That is very odd. I do not imagine that feathers cover a man's modesty very well."

Daenya giggled. "I think they make dresses out of feather, but that is just what I have read. That is why I want to go, to see if my books are true."
She waited until the crown was done and then leaned forward so Blackwood could place it on her head. At the same time she took her rose and pinned it to his chest.

He beamed at her. "I shall wear it with pride. A lady's favour." He pretended to study her intently as he placed the crown on her head. It was a bit lopsided but neither too big nor too small. "It fits well," he said. "You shall be the fairest queen in all the land."

"Don't let my mother or sisters hear that," Daenya told him, making her crown straighter. She then leaned forward and gave Axell a small kiss on the cheek. "I will count you as a friend now, Ser Axell. I hope you plan on wearing my favour in battle."

"I will," he promised. "If I survive, I will keep it safe all my life and know that it was your favour which saved me." And then he winked to show that he knew how ridiculous he sounded. "I hope you will tell your kin that House Blackwood is most loyal."

"Of course I shall, Axell," Daenya replied, smiling at his wink. "I do hope to see you at court again, once the fighting is done. It would be a shame for a man as handsome as you to perish to the Faith."

"it would be a shame for me to perish at all," he corrected, laughing. "But yes, I would not like to die at the hands of an infidel. My gods are many and nameless and they have no septs. But yes, I hope to see you again too."

"I am sure you don't have to leave right now," Daenya said, sliding towards him, one hand on his chest as she stared into his eyes, a smirk on her face. "The gardens are so very empty, with no eyes about." She brushed her lips against his and bis his lower lip.

He had wanted to kiss her all along and he did not back down now. But she was still a girl and he was a man grown, so he kept the kiss gentle and didn't pull her too close to him. But his mouth was hot and she could feel his body start to stir nonetheless.
