"I was under the assumption that the only one offended by my previous actions was my father," Bertram sighs, "However that does not excuse my actions. Either way, I must admit I have missed battle, things had been quite boring out in Lorath. Vraxor is huge now, and as hungry as ever. You must have been quite the soldier, you were always tough, even if protected. On to more pleasant thoughts though. Tell me, what of your children? I have not had the chance to meet them yet."

"Nor will you," Rhaena sighed. "Aegon is the only one of my children born before you left and he was only two. You have never met my daughters. Aegon and Rhaena are visiting the Free Cities and the East and Daenya is in the Summer Isles. We will not speak of Aemy," she said, very firmly, as a shadow passed across her face. "I miss them all."

"I apologize, I thought it would be a more pleasant subject. It appears that things have not gotten much better with the passing of my father. I understand your feelings, it is always difficult to be away from your loved ones." Bertram looked wistful for a moment before he continued. "How has Westeros been since the battle of Oldtown? How I wished I could have helped," Bertram frowned when he said this, "From what little I have heard about it so far, it seemed like a gruesome battle."

"I believe it was, though I was not present. My own battle was at sea, engaging the Redwyne fleet." She sighed, thinking of how the battle had not gone according to plan. "Our kinsman, Lord Velaryon, lost his life then. As many good men lost their lives in the wretched war." She thought of her father and uncle, her brother, and all the others now dead. And Aemy last of all.
"We are working to restore the peace, but I am not at ease yet, uncle. It will take time before the wounds of the past are healed. I would like to see Vraxor some day. It has been a long time."

"It would be my pleasure to take you to visit him! he has grown much more even tempered over the years, but he's still a little pain in the ass, what can I say, I gotta love him. What of your Amethyst? She must be beautiful." Bertram was relieved at the change of subject, he had no urge to upset his niece, especially the cold welcome from his nephew.
"I would suggest a flight together sometime, however Vraxor still has his nasty habits of trying to eat most other dragons he comes across." Bertram sighed, it had been a long time since he was able to treat Vraxor to his favored delicacy, something that would need to be remedied soon.
"May I inquire as to these maps that you seem so invested in?"

"You must have met, Amethyst," she said. "She is indeed beautiful. A queen among dragons, to be sure." She smiled as she thought of her dragon. "Remember, she is the dragon who hatched on the very day Aegon the Conqueror sailed to Westeros, or so the legends say. I am sure she is equal to Vraxor, but we shall not tempt fate until I have reacquainted myself with him.
She looked down at the maps again. "Oh, they are just maps of Esos. I was thinking about Aegon and Rhaena. Mother and Arenya have gone with them, Lord Commander Snow too. But I worry, of course. It's my right and my duty to worry about my children."

"I agree, the mark of a great ruler and parent is to worry for and care about their charges. I shall leave you to your ponderings Your Grace, may I requisition a royal hug before I must return to the proper noble ways?" Bertram held his arms open.
"I wonder if he gave me my old rooms... I wonder if my naughty tapestries are still hung on the walls..." Bertram smiled remembering his juvenile past.

Rhaella laughed. "I really couldn't say. Mother would have known, but, alas, she is off with my children." She hugged him nonetheless. "Your old room may have been allocated to someone else, though I don't recall who. But it's likely your old tapestries were put into storage somewhere. You'd best ask the stewards about that."

Rhaella was all in black, wearing a simple black tunic and breeches. She sat busily writing letters but put them aside when she saw Bertram. Her eyes red-rimmed and her face pale. Her hair was tied back with a black ribbon. "
"Uncle," she said dully. "i assume you have heard of our dire straits, now?"

"I have, I am terribly sorry for the Kingdom's and your loss. What can I do to help? Of course I am yours to command." Bertram knew that not only must Rhaella mourn, but there was now all of the official matters. He went to her desk and held her hands. There was so much that needed to be done. "What happened? I have only heard rumors."
"I know you were hesitant to speak of it before, but I must ask when King Aegon will be returning." He did not with to upset the Queen any more, but the new King's return in a time like this was crucial, and even once he returned, he would need to take the crown and Blackfyre.

"Soon, I hope. I have sent a message with the dragonrider Edmund Waters. I only hope it reaches Aegon soon. Free Cities be damned, Westeros needs its king to be crowned." She sighed. "The bastard Vira Blackwood was found with the king's body, and Blackfyre's blade was bloody. The Kingsguard swore nobody else was granted admittance to the king. I wish I need not think it, but that leaves me only one conclusion."

"That is indeed dreadful, what can I do to help?"

Rhaella frowned. "Could you check that the bastard's dragon is secured in the dragonpit. Make sure the beast is chained, and bring me the key. I do not want the creature trying to escape."

Bertram nodded and moved towards the door, "It will be done Your Grace."
He strode towards the dragonpit.
