Daenya and her escort arrived outside of the city walls, carrying on along the small path into the desert.

"Are you sure about this?" Her escort seemed worried all of a sudden. "You should have had a proper escort, m'lady."

"Do you think you are not good enough to be an escort?" Daenya asked him, briefly glancing back to see how far from the city they were.

"It's not that. But you're a highborn lady and I joined the guard less than a year ag<" the boy confided.
As yet, they weren't far from the city, its walls looming large behind the. But Daenya knew that the alarm would be raised at some point, and when that happened, there would be pursuit. She was too valuable for the Dornish to let her out without permission and a proper guard.

"Oh, don't worry your pretty little head," She said to him, leading the way further down the trail. "All I want is to get some air clear of the smell of people! I was in the Summer Isles, where the air is as fresh as it can be!"

He looked blankly at her with the ignorance of the uneducated. "What's the Summer Isles? Is it in the Stepstones? Or beyond the Marches?" He kept pace with her, but was definitely agitated.

"They are islands down south," Daenya answered, picking up her pace a little. "Perhaps I could show them to you one day, no?" She said, flashing a smile at him.

He grinned at her. "But how could you? Do you have a boat? I like fishing. That's what me dad does for a living. I could catch you a fish if you want."

"A boat, sure, why not," Daenya replied cheerfully, looking back again.
"I don't think I need this anymore," She muttered, taking her head piece off.

"Don't throw it away," her companion advised. "You might need it on the way back, when we reach the full heat of the day. The Dornish son can be dangerous to anyone who isn't used to it."

"Of course I won't throw it away," Daenya replied, putting the head piece in the basket. She walked on until they were far away from the city walls, before letting the basket slip from her hands.
"Gods it is hot out here!" She gasped, wiping her brow.

"Aye. Even for me, though I'm used to it," he said. "Even a Dornishman can get too hot sometimes. Do you want to stop and rest?"

"Not yet," Daenya said, shaking her head, though she lifted the bottom of her dress up and flapped it, to get cool air on herself. "Though could you pick that up for me?" She batted her lashes again.

He nodded and bent to pick up the basket, eager to impress a pretty girl.

As soon as he turned his back on her, Daenya pulled her sword from under her dress, quickly unsheathing it and cutting the guard in the back of the leg, to make him fall.

Unfortunately for Daenya she merely cut a flesh wound. The guard cursed and stumbled, turning round and groping for his own sword. "You bitch! Drop the sword! Hurry now and I won't tell the princess."

Daenya didn't answer, simply cutting at him again as fast as she could before he drew his weapon. She would aim for his head and throat region.

The two face off in the desert. But Daenya has years of sword training at her back, with a proper master at arms teaching her from a young age, and the guard is young and nervous about fighting a woman, especially a young one. His hesitancy costs him dearly as Daenya deals him wound after wound, first to the shoulder when she misses his throat and then to the face. He tries to resist but as the blood flows, he is forced to retreat. Daenya presses her advantage, striking the young guard in the thigh. Finally, however, when he is stumbling, and sweat stings his eyes, she brings her sword up and drives it deep into his throat. He sags downwards, eyes wide and terrified. He crumples to the ground as Daenya pulls her sword free, blood spurting from the fatal wound.

Daenya looks down at the dying guard, before wiping her sword clean on him. She gets changed into her armour as quickly as possible, all the while keeping her eyes on the city. As soon as she was in armour, she strapped her sword on, took her bow and bag and set off towards the place she knew Vandaras was.

But wearing even leathers in the heat of the Dornish sun makes Daenya sweat and her leathers begin to stick uncomfortably to her body. She may have to rethink her situation.

Daenya grunted and quickly undid the top part of her armour and stuffed it in her bag, wearing only her underclothes. She took a sip of water and continued on.

The heat bore down on her. She headed to the place where she'd left Vandaras but it had been some time and the dragon was not there. Nor could she see him gazing around in any distance, nor flying above her. He had clearly moved on.

Daenya gave a long sigh and thought of Vandaras, looking around to see if she could spot any landmarks that her dragon would likely have flown to.
She knew her dragon better than anyone and so had been surprised that he, even with feeding organised, had flown away after only a few days of her absence whereas in the Summer Isles he had patiently waites for her.

After she has been walking for a while, Daenya sees the shadow of a mountain range in the distance. Recalling an old tale that dragons are most at home in the mountains, and that Dragonmont is the place they typically call home, it occurs to her that perhaps Vandaras might have flown north to the mountains.

Daenya opened her bag and pulled out the headpiece she had saved, to protect from the sun. She pulled her bag on again and set off, taking a sip of water every now and then but being careful not to use up her whole supply too quickly.
She also kept a keen eye open on anyone else she might spot in the desert, be they travelers or guards sent to find her.
