Up ahead, Daenya spotted a small party of travellers. And then she heard the distant sound of hooves from behind. There was, however, no sign of Vandaras yet.

Daenya squinted to see if she could recognize anyone among the party of travelers ahead, or at least how many they were.
She also looked behind to see how far the horse riding pursuers were.

She couldn't recognise anyone ahead but the distance was significant at this point. Likewise, the pursuers were well behind her but, as they were mounted and she was not, she knew they would gain on her.

Daenya frowned and looked about to see if there was anything apart from sand and dunes nearby; something that could possibly provide a form of hiding place.

Unfortunately she was currently in an open stretch of desert but the travellers up ahead might have been coming towards her, and she knew that sometimes mountains had villages nestled in their foothills.

Daenya took a sip from her water and set off, trying to determine a direction that the travelers had come from and seeing if she could make it there on time. When she got a little closer she took another look at the travelers to see what sort of people they were.

They seemed to be Dornish, wearing similar robes and headdresses to the Dornish people she had seen about the city, in order to protect themselves from the heat of the sun. They had three mules, she noticed, and a tent. She estimated that there were three of them.

Daenya frowned, then decided to approach the group openly, keeping her hand away from her sword so as not to seem threatening.
"Greetings, travelers!" She called out.

She could hear the hoofbeats getting louder behind her. But for the meantime, the people with the mules looked up at her in surprise. She understood from thei packages their mules bore that they were likely traders of some kind. The nearest person was a middle-aged man. He eyed her with surprise.
"It's not often we see a woman travelling here alone," he said. "You are young to be out alone."

"Young but not inexperience with travel," Daenya replied cheerfully. "I wished to inquire if you recently passed through any villages?"

"We did. There's a village by the mountains." The man indicated the direction of the village. As yet it was nothing but a shapeless blur to Daenya. "Are you lost, m'lady? Did you get separated from your escort?"

"Lost is not the right word," Daenya replied as she glanced at the mountain in the distance.
"A shame it is so far... would you perhaps be will to sell me one of your mules?"

The man shook his head. "If I sold you one, one of us would have to walk, and carry more of the baggage. I cannot do that. But you are welcome to walk with us if you like. Are you going to Sunspear?!"
She could still hear the horsemen approaching behind them.

Daenya sighed, setting her bag down and taking out the leather armour. If she was forced to fight she might as well be properly armoured.
"Just tell me, what sort of merchants are you?" She asked the men as she got ready.

"We deal in silks, mostly, but we are not wealthy enough to have a shop in the city yet." He frowned. "What are you doing? Who are you?"
The hoofbeats were getting louder. Daenya realised that there were quite a few men in this troop. A loud voice hailed at her to remain still.
Then the sounds changed and she realised that the troop was splitting up and changing direction.

"What the..." Daenya muttered, watching the troop change direction. Her hand still went to her sword but she didn't draw it yet, wanting to see what was going to happen.

Daenya realised that the troop had split in two. As they got closer, still yelling at her to surrender, she realised their aim. They wanted to catch her in a pincer movement. And now she realised there were a dozen of them, and they wore the sun and spear sigil of House Martell.

Daenya turned away from the merchants and place herself steady with her feet firmly planted on the ground. Her hand remained on the hilt of her sword and she waited for the men to halt their horses.
"A pincer on a single girl? Do you men lack cocks?" She called out to whoever appeared to be the leader.

"Hardly. I'll take it out and show you if you need proof." The grinned nastily at her, spurring his horse faster still. "You're the dragon girl, aren't you? Princess sent us after you. Five gold to each of us if we bring you back alive."

"Ten gold for each man to say you never found me," Daenya replied firmly, leaning down to take out one of her purses. "That way you keep your lives too when I call Vandaras, my dragon."

"Ten gold to lie to our princess?" He scoffed. "I think not. And what is this about a dragon? Ser Aurane and Ser Elyas have gone to hunt a dragon."

"Vandaras!" Daenya said, anger rising up in her. "The bastards! Twenty gold damn it, for you to leave and give me one of your horses!"

The leader laughed in her face. "And where would you be getting that kind of money? Did you steal it?"
Another man leaned forward "What's to stop us from taking it, girl? We could cut your throat and tell the princess bandits got you."

"Because you seem like clever men, and nice ones to," Daenya replied, fighting back her anger and bringing a smile to her face.
She turned back to the leader. "We both know that you are not a cruel man; you are Dornish, full of pride and loyalty to your home. All I wish to do is stop my dragon from killing any unnecessary people. Those men hunting him will die, unless I stop him, and if you harm me he will no doubt know and come after you."
She took her hand off her sword stepped a little closer. "Please, be honourable and let me stop any more violence."

Some of the men seem to be convinced by Daenya's argument, judging by their murmurs. Others, however, are not best pleased. Nor is the leader, whose gaze remains utterly unfriendly.
"Princess Sarella gave our orders. We take orders from her, and those acting on her behalf. Nobody else Princess Sarella said to bring you back. She was very angry when she found you gone."
