A field near the great city, large enough for the dragons to rest.

Princess Laena flies down with Vermilion as the dragons are too large and too dangerous to enter the city.

Deciding to leave the Red Sorceress wherever she was and following her mother's request, Arenya and Orys found themselves not far from the party as they entered and landed in Volantese airspace.
They circled a bit as she saw her mother land safely in the clearing, She continued looking around for any other people there to greet them, hostile or otherwise.

There were no other people present, the farmers having fled the moment they caught sight of the dragons. But Princess Laena saw the familiar sight of Tanis and waved Arenya over.

Soon after the dragons land they can see a large crowd of people starting to gather outside of the city walls near the gates. Within moments a large group of elephants emerge from the nearest city gate and start to make there way to the dragons.
Once they get closer Jaes and the rest of the greeting party that was assembled when the dragons were spotted in the distance get down from their elephants and approach the Targaryen party and bows to them, "Welcome to Volantis, we did not expect you so soon." Jaes says warmly, with a hint of curiosity towards their schedule change.

Aegon landed on Glutton, a look of surprise on the Prince's face as Arenya descended not far away. He would have to greet her later; the approaching Volantene were the more pressing matter. Elephants were no doubt impressive to anyone who had not grown up around dragons, but they were less impressive to Aegon. Glutton drooled steaming saliva as the great dragon eyed the lead elephant.
Aegon dismounted, nodding respectfully to the envoys. "Greetings. I am Prince Aegon Targaryen. My betrothed, the Princess Rhaena Targaryen, and our grandmother the Princess Laena Targaryen," Aegon gestured to each in turn. "And the King's brother, a member of His Grace's Small Council, and the Lord Commander of His Kingsguard, Ser Brandon Snow." Aegon made sure to list every one of Brandon's honorifics, as apparently the denizens of the Free Cities had a particularly hard time remembering them.

Brandon raised an eyebrow when he saw Arenya, but he did not comment, and only nodded gruffly when Aegon said his name.

Jaes nods to each member of the party in turn as they were introduced and turns back to the prince, "I am Jaes Azantys, a prominent merchant in the city, and this is my father-in-law, Annajon Vhassar. We are here as representatives of the Triarchs to welcome you to our beloved city." He states, eyeing the fat drooling dragon, and wondering if the thing was eyeing him or his mount behind him.

Master Vhassar bowed to the visitors when he was introduced. "Volantis bids you welcome," he said.
Princess Laena, leaning close to Aegon, whispered "Finally we have found some lumbering beasts to match your Glutton. They are really quite ugly creatures. We had best accompany this man, for now. I hope they take the things back in with them. Vermilion has a hungry look about him."
Sure enough, Vermilion was hissing at the elephants and flapping his wings in agitation.
Laena glanced behind her to see what Arenya was doing.

Among the entourage who had arrived in litters on the elephants' backs, only one of them had not dismounted to greet the guests from Westeros. They could see that she was extremely tall, perhaps even taller than the Lord Commander, if they both stood on level ground. Her frame was a perfect hourglass, with long legs topped and breasts so large that it was surprising her tiny waist could even support such weight. She wore a gown of the currently popular style in Volantis; slim-cut, clinging to her body's curves, and yet going all the way up to the neck with an oval cutout on the chest allowing ample cleavage to be shown. Her hair was dark, almost black, and her skin very pale, and as she looked down on the party of Westerosi with bright green eyes she gave the slight impression of a raptor, watching its prey.

"Don't be absurd, Grandmother," Aegon smiled in an aside, "Those elephants are neither lumbering nor ugly enough to match my Glutton."
He turned back to Jaes with a pleasant nod. "It is a pleasure to meet you both. We have been travelling the Free Cities, I am sure you know. Tyrosh was quite hospitable to us, and we made beneficial arrangements for both parties involved. Lys was less hospitable." Aegon did not elaborate. They would find out soon enough. "We should be honored if you showed us your city."

As Arenya and Orys landed with the rest, she noticed the Lord Commander and nodded in respect, even if his look of surprise at her presence did not bother her.
She stood next to Tanis as they watched people around them.

"Of course." Jaes states, "I have been able to make arrangements for you and your party during your stay here at Volantis. I hope that you find them suitable to your tastes." He says with a smile, while motioning behind him for a group of slaves to bring forward more elephants, "For your tour of the city, I thought it prudent that you see it from the back of our rides, instead of at eye level like the commoners."

"That is quite considerate," Aegon agreed. He made sure they left one dragon rider behind as a guard for the mounts, then let himself be led to the elephant. "These are interesting creatures," Aegon commented, looking at an elephant, "We do not have their like in Westeros. Do you use them for war as well, or only transportation?"

"They are used for both purposes." Jaes states, "Though on the battlefield I doubt they are able to cause as much damage as your mounts." He states looking back at the dragons with a look of admiration." Jaes states as he leads the entourage towards the elephants and assigning slaves to each person to assist in climbing the elephant if any of the visitors had difficulty getting on top of the beasts.

Looking at the huge beasts, she now had the look of surprise,"He expects us to ride these things", she whispered to the back of her mother's head. "We should be feeding them to our dragons."

"I doubt so as well, unless your elephants can breathe fire?" Aegon chuckled. He climbed up into the canopy on top after Jaes. "Still, impressive beasts. Forgive me, Master Azantys, but I know little of Volantene customs. You are not a Triarch? But you are... a man of influence?"

The tall woman looked down at Arenya, with a pleasant smile on her lips. "You are wanting an elephant to feed your zaldrīzes, your dragon?" she asked, with an amused expression on her face. She snapped her fingers, and one of the other men scrambled down off his mount, drawing it away from the rest and then retreating back. "He is byka, I am thinking. 'Too small', you say?"

"You are correct, Prince Aegon. I am not a Triarch myself. My wife's sister on the other hand is one of the Triarchs, I deal in slaves and antiquities, and that has helped me gain enough influence in the city for my liking." Jaes claims.

"Ahh." The fact that the man was a slaver made his stock fall in Aegon's eyes, but he tried to remain polite. "Your wife's sister, you say? Women can be Triarchs in Volantis? That is unusual, I have found, but not unlike the customs of my own family."

Looking up at the woman,"It was a suggestion, you're beasts may not agree with my Tanis..." Then grinning,"And here I thought my Valyrian was getting rusty, mother. This one understood me just fine as I whispered to you."

Tyraxes eyed the elephant hungrily and even took a heavy step towards the beast, before Rhaena growled the word stop in high Valyrian and he looked round to her, seemingly judging if to obey, and did indeed stop, but growled angrily as Rhaena moved to mount the elephant.
"Looks like I shall take first watch then," she said, not taking her eyes off her dragon, and moved back towards him.

The tall woman smirked derisively but did not reply, waving her hand lazily for her servant to retake his place on the lone elephant. "We are remembering the Dragonlords in this Daguther of Valyria," she said in a far more pleasant tone, turning her attention to Prince Aegon. "We are having a Dragon Stable within the Black Walls, so that you are not having to pass through the rabble each time you wish to see your mounts. I am being Triarch Mellaria Vhassar, and I am being pleased to welcome you to Volantis, Prince of Dragonstone."

"Truly, after all of these years?" Aegon seemed curious. "I should be interested to inspect it, Triarch Vhassar." Aegon kissed her hand. "Westeros is no daughter of Valyria, of course, but there are some in my family interested in the Old Freehold." Aegon did not count himself among that number, but did not feel the need to mention that specifically.
