She nodded, wide-eyed. "I'm not stupid, I know a dragon is not a pet. They are much too big for that." She giggled and then proceeded to say something silly. "Does your dragon like to be stroked?"

"No," Aegon answered the stupid question. "He likes feeding," Aegon replied. "Sheep and cattle and pigs. Occasionally man."

The girl let out a squeal of horror. "But you can't do that! That's horrible!"

"It is," Aegon agreed easily, though it did not seem to bother him. "Worry not, my lady, that treatment is reserved for those who take up arms against the Iron Throne."

"Oh. That's not so bad then." But she was starting to lose interest, he realised.

That suited Aegon well enough. He turned to his food. Some of it was not bad, Aegon conceded, even if the spices were queer and foreign. "Tyrosh seems to prosper under your rule. For how long have you been its Archon?" Aegon asked, turning his attention back to the Archon.

"Nine years now," said the Archon. "A long time, I know. I believe the city has prospered in that time. My father did well enough to be sure, but he was not half as bold as I. I have increased profit and increased the size of the city guards too."

"How have you increased your profits?" Aegon asked conversationally, sipping more of the pear brandy.

"By trading with new partners, changing the prices, many things. It is not really proper for me to discuss such things with a foreign prince. Trade affairs are Tyroshi business. And you know well that we already trade with Westeros."

"If there is a possibility to increase such profits further through new trade with Westeros, it seems as though I am a sensible person to speak with on the matter," Aegon replied mildly. "As I am sure you know, Westeros has long needed to focus its efforts on our war. But ships that once needed to guard against our enemies are now free to trade, and iron and timber and other materials needed for weapons might now be shipped elsewhere."

"Indeed. Iron and timber are often required here in Tyrosh, since we are a city state. We would be happy to increase our imports in such matters. You have much gold and silver too, is that not true?"

"We have many large mines of both," Aegon confirmed, "Westeros is a vast land with great quantities of natural resources. Tyrosh lacks such things, but there are no superior craftsmen in the world. It seems to me there is room for a deal to be struck that benefits both of us."

!So it would seem. I would be happy to make this arrangement. We get the best price of your gold and silver and you get a good price on the jewellry we make."

"We will need to go over the specifics later, but that sounds like a strong basis for an agreement," Aegon replied.

"Excellent. I look forward to increasing profits," said the Archon. "Perhaps this will be a turning point for our kingdoms. I certainly hope so."
