"Oh!" She pouted. "Please, for me? It would be a great honour. My father said I had to be kind to you and make you welcome, and you don't want to do fun things like dye your hair." She leaned in and whispered "I think he will be angry with me. Oh please, tell me how I can be a good hostess." "You have already been an excellent hostess, Lanaya. I feel very welcome," Aegon replied. Their hosts had indeed been very gracious, and if Aegon was not particularly enjoying himself it was not their fault. "What should I see in the city while I am here?"

"The Harbor, the Temple of Trios, um...the rest of the palace! And don't forget the dragons." She giggled again and leaned in still further so that her leg brushed his. "The Trios are our goddesses, did you know that?"

"I have heard the name, though I confess I know little about them. Perhaps I shall visit the temple with my betrothed." Aegon emphasized the last word, just slightly.

The girl glanced from Aegon to Rhaena and back again. "Oh. That would be fine too, but she seems awfully interested in whatever Ennio is saying. He's so...I don't know the word in the Common Tongue, but he likes women. A lot. He and his friends always go to taverns to flirt with the serving girls. Last year Father had to pay off some nobleman after Ennio got his daughter with child." She giggled. "It was really quite embarrassing."

"How charming," Aegon said flatly, but decided not to rise to the bait. "You were telling me about your goddesses?"

"Looks as if our trip is granting you quite the welcomed reprieve. I just hope I have the eyes to appreciate your work," she said, "does Tyrosh hold much stock by archery? Or is it all swords and axes? I am fairly accomplished in it myself."

"Yes," said Lanaya. "The triple goddess. She has three heads, for life, death and prosperity and each head has snakes for hair. A man once told me a story about how the Trios once lived among us, and all who looked upon one of her heads were turned to stone. When I was little, I was almost afraid to look at the statue of the goddes in the temple, after I heard that story."

"We have some archers," Ennio said. "But not among the nobility. Father hired a troop of mercenary archers from the Summer Isles. But mostly we prefer crossbows to guard the walls. That's common in the Free Cities."

"That is a shame, I should have liked to experience tyroshi archery, see how it compares. " she said with a small frown.

"or have the Summer Isles troop show their skills. Or...you could show me how to shoot a longbow." He grinned.

Rhaena looked at him for a long moment before nodding, "fine. You paint me, I shall give you a bow lesson," She reasoned, "I cannot promise either will be completed, I can be rather impatient, not good for teaching or sitting for a painting."

He grinned. "I'll find someone to entertain you while you're sitting for the painting. Do you care for music? We have the finest bards in the Free Cities. Or I could hire a juggler, or have someone read to you. I don't want you to be bored while I'm painting you."

But no snakes." He tried a sip of the Tyroshi pear brandy and made an appreciative noise. "Do you have hobbies, Lanaya? What do you do for entertainment?"

Dancing is my favourite," she confessed. "Do you have dancing in Westeros?"

"I am fond of all those things, but I am sure your company alone would be more than adequate" she said, with a sideways smirk, up at him, "should I meet you in your room tomorrow?"

"Certainly. I never object to having a beautiful woman in my room, and you'll be the first princess," he remarked. "I will consider myself much honoured."

It seemed a very long time ago. "Though I admit my feet are better suited for marching than dancing."

"Oh, that sounds deadly dull! I hate walking places if I don't have to. I prefer to take the litter," Lanaya confided. "You get a much better view and cut shut out the dust and the stares of the poor and everything. But I ride my horse sometimes too. But I never walk in the city if I can avoid it. Why do you like marching so much?"

Aegon was finding the Archon's daughter less interesting the more she spoke. "I did not say I preferred it, my lady. Only that I have grown used to it. I have been at war for a very long time, and not always on a dragon."

"Oh. I don't know anything about war. My father would never let me go into battle even if I wanted to. It's my duty to be a lady. Marching sounds awfully tiring, and you must sweat an awful lot too." She shrugged lightly. "But isn't your war over now?"

She nodded. "Because of the dragons, I know. I expect they make fighting a lot easier."

"They do," Aegon replied. "They are fearsome beasts. Many foes prefer to flee rather than face them."

She continued to nod as if she understood. "I would run away if I saw a dragon breathing fire. Yours won't do that to us when we see them, will they? I do want to see them but I am scared of being hurt.

"They won't if their riders are with them," Aegon replied, "But maintain a distance and respect the dragons. They are not like a horse or a dog; a dragon can be controlled, but never truly domesticated."
