Maekar arrives at the Dragonpit, followed by a number of servants bearing various wrapped packages which they began to buckle onto Cyrax's saddle or tuck into the bags. They bore primarily provisions for his hunt; dried meat, as well as hard cheese and black bread, and some grain-cakes that were often eaten by soldiers on the march. Vigilance was in its sheath, buckled onto the side of the saddle, but Maekar also had a finely made yew bow and several quivers of arrows. He did not wear armor, besides a set of hunting leathers, though they had been finely made in black, tooled with red and silver scrollwork.
He waited at the Dragonpit for Vira to arrive, having arranged the time and place of their meeting so they could depart to find the bandit that some named "Septa".

Vira arrived only minutes later, with two burly male servants carrying similar food packages. Strapped to her back was a battle axe, and this time she was dressed sensibly in riding leathers. She wore a fur cloak with a high collar to protect her neck from the chilly wind, a scarf, and gloves, her dark hair wound into a bun. She kissed Maekar lightly in greeting. "Let me get these strapped to Aegerys and I'll meet you outside the Pit."

Maekar nodded, admiring her form even so covered, and when they were ready he mounted Cyrax and spurred the dragon forward, out of the Pit and into the air above the city. He circled the Dragonpit for a moment until Aegerys joined them in the air. Vira had mentioned contacts in the crownlands, who might be able to aid their search for the Septa and her gang, and he waited for her to indicate in which direction they should fly.

The ivory dragon shot into the air moments after his dark clutchmate. They circled for a moment as Vira shouted out to Maekar. "I didn't find out exactly where she is," she called. "But two poachers caught in the kingswood say they saw her two months ago. They're in the dungeons, but I think it's better we fly to the woods."

Maekar shouted his ascent, and led them south, over the city and the Blackwater River, until the trees of the Kingswood stretched out over most of the horizon. Eventually, the sun began to dip lower in the sky, and Maekar led the way to the ground, finding a small clearing and spurring Cyrax toward it. The dragon landed heavily, his claws gouging deep troughs in the grass, and Maekar jumped lightly off the dragon's back. "We should make camp for the night," he said to Vira once she had also dismounted. "And in the morning, we can begin the search for true; there will doubtless be woodsmen and hunters about, and perhaps they will be able to aid in narrowing the search."

Aegerys landed with a thump right beside Cyrax, stirring up dust. The dragons were in closer proximity now than most dragons were willing to be, but Cyrax and Aegerys were the exact same age, born together on Dragonstone nigh on a century ago, blooded in war together. Even then, Aegerys rocketed into the darkening sky as soon as Vira removed his saddle and harness, ever the elusive loner.
"Aye," Vira said, hefting her riding equipment onto a rock and laying her axe and shield against the rock. "I have some ideas for where we can start looking on the morrow."

Maekar nodded, his gaze on the white dragon as it flew off. "He is a magnificent beast," he said quietly, referring to the Ghost, though after he spoke he turned his eye to Vira. "What did you have in mind, for us to begin searching?" he asked, moving toward her and helping her unload some the bundles she'd removed from the dragon saddle. He had not packed a tent, electing to leave the cumbersome bundle of canvas and wooden poles behind; the weather was yet fair enough for them to make camp under the sky, and the dragons would make sure that they remained secure overnight while they were asleep.

"Even the woods have ears," she said. "We'll speak of it on the morrow." Vira had not packed a tent either, preferring to bring just a pallet and a thick fur.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////// The next morning, his right hand freshy bandaged, Maekar dressed and buckled on his swordbelt. "I think we should divide our search, at least until we pick up the trail. We can use this spot as a camp, and meet back here, but it seems like the best option is to fan out and find someone, anyone really, to question. I imagine there are woodsmen and hunters about, and with luck one of them will be able to point us in the right direction."

Vira cleared up their campfire, cleaning away the remains of their breakfast and storing their bedrolls away. The dragon Aegerys had returned from his night time wanderings, and was now resting lazily in the clearing, clearly enjoying the bright sunshine. "I think our belongings should be safe," she said, glancing at Aegerys.
"There are villages on the edge the Kingswood, and I'm good at talking with the small folk," she said. "You head north, and I'll head the other way. As we flew over here yesterday, I saw plumes of smoke rising from a hamlet not far away. I'll head there."

Maekar nodded, grabbing her by the hip and pulling her close for a kiss. When they broke apart, he smiled down at her. "I noticed a village or two to the north when we flew in yesterday, I shall start with them. Shall we say, meet back here by sundown?"

"Sundown," she agreed, kissing him back playfully. She watched him while he mounted Cyrax, and then gave him a last smile and started north, heading towards the village. Vira preferred this discreet, low profile way of investigating. As a commoner, she could do more by bringing out her peasant side than she could with Aegerys - something Maekar couldn't quite replicate, both due to his aristocratic manners and his famous face.
She liked the solitude of her morning walk through the woods, though admittedly she was sore from her exertions with Maekar, and walked more slowly than she normally would. After a while she reached the village.

Maekar flew north on his own, taking less than an hour to reach the nearest village. He drove the dragon downward, landing in a small field next to the collection of houses that made up the little community, and slid off the dragon's back onto the ground. He strode into the town confidently, and made his way toward the biggest building; it would either be the tavern or the home of someone in town, but either way he would likely be able to find there the most important person in the village.

Around sundown, Vira returned to the camp site, a little disheartened by a difficult day, where she had made little headway. Aegerys was awaiting her, wings folded. His eyes glowed gently as Vira caressed his long neck and cleaned his scales. When she was done, the dragon lowered his head to the ground, to rest.
Maekar wasn't back yet, so she washed herself in the stream, and then prepared the camp site for the evening - rolling out their bedrolls, lighting a fire, and made a soup over it, consisting of ground beef, corn, onions, carrots and salt and pepper. She sat on a flat rock and stirred the contents of the little iron pot in a meditative silence.

Maekar arrived back not long after Vira, just as the sun was beginning to dip beneath the horizon; his expression said that he had also made no headway during his day's search. He joined her for dinner, and eventually they bedded down for the night, intending to resume their hunt the following day.

Before breaking their fast that morning, Maekar and Vira agreed that they would spend the day hunting together. Vira decided that they should seek out woodsmen. The forest was controlled mostly by the King, some of it by other lords, and all the industries associated with the woodlands was strictly controlled. The woodsmen were responsible for the harvesting of timber, wood, and underwood for the lords and the King, and in a great royal forest like this, Vira was sure the woodsmen would have small holdings and licenses to graze animals within the woods to help subsidize their living. Vira had known a few woodsmen growing up - one of them had taught her how to wield her axe, and she had first used an axe to help split logs.
"Let's go south this time and look for woodsmen's cottages," she told Maekar. "They see much, both in the forest and in the villages. All the tradesmen who get their raw materials from the forest - cartwrights, bowers, miners - know them too, and other townsfolk. And I'll disguise both of us, so we look more common. Or, at least, I will," she added, taking him in with a smile. Maekar's resemblance to the Conqueror made him an attractive partner in bed, but drew unwanted attention at times like this.

Maekar tied back his hair, and scooped a handful of dirt off the ground, running it through his hair trying to at least moderately disguise the color. After all, what better way to look like a peasant, than to be covered in dirt? He scowled at Vira, as she laughed at his pitiful attempts to disguise his appearance, but then he began to laugh as well, and allowed her to do whatever she thought appropriate, lightly teasing her as she worked.
He knew little enough about woodsmen, though he did know that trappers often were granted permission to take pelts in the Kingswood, of which the crown received a share, or required a fee for the rights to trap and hunt. He had forgone his leather armor today, opting for a simple tunic with no colors or heraldry, though nothing could disguise the fine quality of the cloth. The left sleeve was pinned back over his stump, and he wore an eye-patch that was flat black. Vigilance hung at his hip, and no disguise in the world would not prevent the sword from being known as a Lord's weapon.

Vira wanted to make him wear his cloak, but the fabric was too rich. Instead, she made him carry her shield, which was scratched and had no arms unlike his, darkened his teeth with ashes from the fire. "Sorry, dear," she said sympathetically as she rubbed it on. "This way, we can explain your sword away by making you look like a brigand or an outlaw with a stolen shield and sword - exactly the type of person I think Beatrix would want to meet. And for other reasons, I'm sure," she gave him a wink.

Maekar bowed to her expertise with a laugh, those he grimaced at the taste of ashes. He skipped Vira's shield over his left forearm, strapping it firmly into place, though he also removed a queer crossbar from the back of his own shield and strapped it onto the back of Vira's; she could see that it worked to stabilize the shield on his arm, since by nature it was somewhat wobbly without a hand to firmly keep it steady. Without his left hang, it was difficult for Maekar to use a shield properly, but the crossbar had been cunningly made by an armorer in King's Landing to at least provide a modicum of stability in such situations; clearly it was better than nothing.
"Killed a knight and took his sword?" Maekar asked, with a raised eyebrow. It was not a bad idea, but it amused him to disguise himself so.

"And lost your eye and hand in the process," Vira replied, admiring the crossbar. "Your accent is a problem though, sweetling. Try to make your vowels a little more broad. Like how I speak sometimes." She blushed. "And drop your H's, and don't enunciate so clearly."

"Like this?" he asked, in an unspeakably terrible attempt to imitate a peasant's speech patterns. Maekar met Vira's gaze, and they both burst out laughing at how awful his accent was.
"Perhaps you should do most of the talking, hmmm?" he asked, his lips leaving a smear of ash on her skin, as he leaned down to kiss her neck lightly.

She giggled as he kissed her neck. "That may be for the best," she replied. "I'll just say you're my mute friend who speaks in grunts. A grunting, one-eyed brigand, why wouldn't the Septa love that?"

"Ungh," he replied, getting into character with a playful slap of her backside. "Lead the way, Lady Dragonseed," he added with a semi-teasing smile.

She kissed him, despite his blackened teeth. "I should stop doing that," she said, with little conviction. "Come, let's start walking before I give in and keep you here all morning." She led the way, sure-footed and quiet, into the forest.

Maekar walked behind her silently, though his boots crunched over twigs and dead leaves as they walked, and he continually scanned the woods around them for people, pausing every now and then to steal a glance at Vira's backside.
