"Is that an offer?" Janos asked.

"Of course. That is what family is for, I find," she replied, then realized her statement needed amending. She did not consider the Targaryens her family, despite calling them all cousins. "Well, close family."

"I can't argue with that" Janos said. "As you are now Lady of Driftmark, I will do what I can to serve, in my way, and as I do still owe your father much, I will do what I can to look out for you, it seems the best of repaying the debt" He continued.

She smiled, slightly moved by this. "Thank you, uncle. If this is how you feel. However, I would like to think of that as us being family rather than because you feel indebted to my father. Can't it be that?"

"Of course, both are reasons for such loyalty" Janos said. "I heard Mithrax was injured in oldtown, how is he healing, if I may ask?"

"Yes. The Dragonbane cut through his wing.. the journey back was not the swiftest one; I made him fly before he was ready," she replied regretfully, but would have done it again to put as much distance between them and Oldtown as possible. "He should be fine by the end of the month or so."

"I hope so, I remember during the Stormlands campaign, would have been 60AL Caligo was badly wounded, that was quite frightening I remember" Janos said sympathetically. "The one blessing is that Dragons do seem to recover much better than us humans do, at least in my experience"

"That is true. How come the king sent all of us this time?" she asked, leaving the obvious unsaid. A bunch of children. Her tone was harmless enough, more curious than anything. "Why not go himself, or send you?"

"My guess is that he saw fit to blood you, test your abilities in combat if you will" Janos said before taking another sip. "As to why not himself, I would probably guess it was as part of that testing, possibly for Aegon" he continued. He then lightly chuckled as he said "As to why not myself, well in the arbor I would contribute little as a tactician, and nearly nothing as a swordsman, while in oldtown... Caligo might benefit the battle?" "While I cannot name his reasons on everything, Maegor most definitely has them, and I'm inclined to think he knows what he is doing"

Daenerys listened thoughtfully. "Well, actually it was the prince that asked me to go. As far as I'm aware, the king might not even know of my participation in it. I have never met His Grace, you see," she said lightly. "Yes, he would have, much like our dragons. That is fine, I was merely wondering."

"True" Janos then noticed the book on the table and asked "What's that your reading?"

Having almost forgot about the book entirely, Dany looked at it with certain surprise. "Oh. Just something about sea trade. A dull thing, really, but I am trying to figure out how to get Driftmark back on its feet in as little time as possible. Any pointers?" she asked with a wry smile.

"I can't say I can offer much, only basic advice for negotiating deals, figure out what the other person is after, and then figure out how to satisfy them while giving as little as possible" Janos said. "I never really learnt about trade, never expected to need such knowledge"

"Oh, that could prove useful. It would be quite nice to have some insight to what I am about to do, however" she said, motioning to the book that lay before her. "I was thinking about talking to the Braavosi ambassador. What do you think about pursuing that?"

"Seems a good idea" Janos said. "What is the objective of said conversation?"

"Why, trade of course. I spent two years in Braavos myself. Lovely city. Figuring out what exactly I need to do to get things moving might take me a while, though," Dany replied.

"What trade will make this endeavor a success?" Janos then asked, his tone changed from friendly to a more strict one. "You need a specific objective in any negotiations, or else the person on the other side of the table will decide what you will accept"

"The bravos have a huge fleet that carries home immense wealth from the east. I am sure something can be arranged," she said, studying him, but did not seem to notice the change in his demeanor. "I am aware of that. As I said, I need some time. I only borrowed this book today."

"Of course, just make certain when you do look into it that you have some idea as to what to pursue" Janos said. "Also make sure to consider what you have of value to trade before you go into these kind of negotiations"

"Of course," replied Dany. "Thank you for the counsel."

"As you said, what are family for, if not giving one another advice" He said, his tone much more friendly now. He then took a sip that finished off his glass before saying "This is good wine, where did you get it?"

/////////////// (sry)
Daenerys was seated behind the table in her solar, having invited both her brothers over for dinner. It had been fairly difficult getting them there at the same time, what with their squiring duties to the king and Lord Reyne. The table had already been set and the servants had just carried in a rack of lamb baked in mint and herbs, sauced in honey, as well as sweetgrass salad, and fried bread with garlic. An opened bottle of rich Arbor gold stood on the table as well, next to honeyed wine.
Since she did not get to see her brothers too often, she had dressed in a nice red-gold dress for the occasion, with matching jewelry.

OOC - couldn't remember if you said who squired for whom, so I decided Reyne would get Monty as he's younger Monty Velaryon was a slender lad with fair hair and purple eyes. He came forward to smile politely at his sister, his tunic turquoise silk with black breeches. He bowed to her. "Dany. It's good to see you, sweet sister."

Happy to see her little brother, although they were somewhat estranged in addition to the age difference they shared, Dany stood and embraced him, smiling. It was slightly odd that he would bow to her, but she guessed it was something he had picked up at the capital. "Monty! How have you been holding up?" she asked him after pulling back, and pushed away a strand of hair from his forehead while studying him. "You grow so fast that you will bet taller than me in no time! Come, sit," she said, leading him to the table.

Monty sat down, though he seemed a bit nervous now that his sister was Lady Velaryon.
"I like it here well enough. Lord Reyne goes to lots of boring meetings, and I have to pour his wine a lot. But sometimes he gets a servant to do it, so I can train at arms. We go hunting a lot though. Lord Reyne loves the Kingswood. I like it well enough. It's better than being at the meetings, anyway." He grinned, "I'm going to be a knight one day, Dany. You'll be proud of me when that day comes. Perhaps I can be the head of your household guard on Driftmark."
