"You seem well enough," Jeyne admitted. "I have worried about your for weeks, my love. That will not change, whether you are wounded or not. I think I had best not know too much about that horrid battle. You are safe, that is all that matters. I hope everyone was kind to you."

"Alright, mother, I shall say no more of it."
Elsey put her head on her mother's shoulder, putting an arm around her;
"How have you been? Apart from worrying about Rhaegar and I."

"Oh, you know how it is! Nothing interesting happens here," Jeyne sighed. "At least nothing to our benefit. Your sister has been making friends, though. That is something. But I...well...I long to have a home of my own, a husband." She sighed. "I am tired of this place, and I am not allowed to leave and go home, nor do i wish to leave you children. So a husband may be my only chance to escape. If I ever find one."

"Mother," Elsey said tenderly, kissing Jeyne on the cheek. "We are not children any more. But, I do understand how you feel. We do not have much more than eachother."
"Perhaps, now that Rhaegar and I have served the Crown, we may be allowed more freedoms, in time. I expect he will be angry about the loss of the dragons though."

"Yes." Jeyne shivere. "I always thought you were all lucky to be allowed to keep your dragons at all. For years I feared for our lives and I really thought the dragons might be slain too. But I fear that the king values the dragons more than he values most of his kin. I dread what he will do now."
She laid a hand on Elsey's arm. "You must be careful, my love. I don't know what the king will do but must be give him no cause to harm us."

"I understand. I am doing my best to protect us."
She knew in her heart that, in truth, she had failed to keep danger from them, but she could not voice such a thing to her mother, who had known so much fear and sorrow.
"I would like to see you find a good husband, Mother. You do not deserve to be alone, with just us for company. I would have you find someone gentle and kind. Did you have someone in mind?"

"I don't. I am hoping to find someone. But I cannot offer an alliance or wealth or anything except trouble," Jeyne sighed. "And the same is true of my children. I fear we may be doomed."

"Rhaegar and I spoke of similar things while we were away. He thinks that none of us will be permitted to marry. Certainly not him, in any case. But Mother, oh to hope. We must hope for something better. I shall pray each day that we will be free. And I will do all I can."

Jeyne pulled her youngest close. "Oh my love, what could you possibly hope to do to set us free? I do not believe any one of us can do anything to change the king's mind. Truly, I wish he had exiled us to the Free Cities instead of keeping us here. Gods, even Dragonstone would be better than living here, with him."

Elseyris huddled into her mother's embrace;
"I don't know either, but I am trying. Maegor won't be King forever, and the Crown Prince trusts me. There is hope for us yet."

"Yes. Yes. But don't speak of the king's death, especially not here. We are surely watched in our own chamber." Jeyne sounded genuinely worried though Elsey had not meant it like that.

"I'm sure the whisperers have better things to worry about than us, Mother."
Elsey stood up, kissing Jeyne's forehead;
"I must see Lord Darklyn soon, he will want to see that I have returned safely. If you wish, I could mention your concerns. Perhaps he might alleviate them, in light of our friendship."

Jeyne sighed. "Lord Darklyn is a loyal friend to the king too, my love. Tell him only that I would be interested in learning of any suitable marriage prospects that will take me away from the capital."

"Very well then, I shall make enquiries on your behalf. Try not to worry so much for me, Mother. It pains me to see you upset."
Elsey gave Jeyne's shoulder a reassuring squeeze, then left the solar.

Lord Sergio Delinaal knocked at the door to the rooms.

The door was opened by the servant and he was shown in. Jeyne, a beautiful dark haired woman in her early thirties, greeted him with a strained smile.
"Good day to you. How may I be of assistance? Will you take some wine?"

"Good day Lady Jeyne. I have brought a letter from Braavos for you from a mutual friend." He presented her with a letter as he bowed deeply, "I would love some wine."

"That is very kind of you." She took the letter and poured him a cup of wine and one for herself. "I hope you will stay a few minutes. I receive so few visitors and my children are busy with their own affairs. I would so love to make a new friend."
She tossed her hair over her shoulder.

Sergio smiled, and took the wine. He looked around the room slowly, and replied, "I am Lord Sergio Delinaal of Braavos. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"You already know my name," she said. "Are you in the capital for long?"

"I am. I have long thought of expanding my interests into Westeros. This seemed like the appropriate place to start." He sat down and stared Jeyne directly in the eye, "I was hoping you would be so kind as to elaborate on my limited knowledge of the court." He smiled at her, and his knowing smile had just a hint of mischievousness.

"I would be happy to," she said. "Is there anyone in particular you would like to be introduced to? I know them all, though many are not exactly friendly to me."

"I need no introductions at the time, but simply a primer. I have almost no experience here. Would you mind if I asked some frank questions about the court, and the players here." Sergio replied.

"Not at all. The least I can do is to answer you when you have kindly brought me a letter and your company. Speak as you will."

"I have heard of some recent conflict, but I have heard that it has been decided. Who won and how has it affected the power at court." Sergio asked curiously. His eyes never left Lady Jeyne's while he spoke.
