"I know, but there is nothing I can do to help you, my love. I wish there was, truly." Jeyne sighed.

"I know, it's alright. I will do my best."
Elsey hugged her mother close, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"We will get through this, somehow. We still have eachother, that is what's important."

"Yes. I would have tried to flee long ago if it wasn't for you, and your brother and sister. The gods know I have nobody else left to care about," Jeyne murmured. "I wish I could save you ffrom your fate, but I am as powerless as you, my love."

"Despite all of this, despite the sorrow I feel, I do not believe that one is truly powerless if one still has hope. Someone told me recently that there are two types of people; those who let what happens to them control their fate, and those who use what happens to them as a way to climb up to a better fate. I am deep in a hole of despair right now, Mother, but I will not stop climbing."

"But how? Where is there to climb to, my love? There is no hope for us so long as we remain here. The king will never let any one of us prosper and you are betrothed to a man with no lands of his own, no valls or men at arms to serve him, though he's surely earned them by his deeds. I doubt he even wants them. You shall be trapped here in Kings Landing, Elsey."

"Would you rather I simply wallowed in my despair? I must try to keep up hope that the future will be brighter."

Jeyne smiled sadly and hugged Elsey close. "I wish I had your faith, my dear. I only hope it will be rewarded, one day."

"Me too, Mother," said Elsey, quietly, wiping at her face with her sleeve.
She curled up tighter into Jeyne's arms, and took long, deep breaths, until her anxiety began to subside.
