"Ah yes. Our forces have been at war with the Faith Militant down in Oldtown since before I was born," Jeyne explained. "There has been war all over the kingdom, but mostly in the south. The royal forces triumphed. The queen rules in Oldtown at present, to keep the people in line. The king remains at court with his children, but Princess Aemy was executed for treason."

"So the king is a strong king? Does he stand on his own feet? Or does he lean on the shoulders of close advisers?" Sergio asked and smiled at her.

Jeyne shuddered as he mentioned the king.
"he is very strong, very powerful and very...commanding. He has advisors, of course, and he leaves them to their duties, but if the king makes a decision, none may deny him. He is...implacable. My Aenar learned that the hard way."

Sergio tilted his head and grew concerned as she shuddered, "Are you alright? Have I touched on a delicate subject?" He reached out and took her hand.

Rhaegar Targaryen had been meaning to visit his mother upon his return to Kings Landing to inform her of the latest developments. He was surprised to learn from the guard at the door, that that she was already entertaining a guest, other than his two sisters. Still he was thankful that Visenya was not present.
After knocking, Rhaegar pushed open the door open gently.
"Mother?" he called out by way of warning that he was entering.

"Yes. I'm frightened of the king. I have been for years. He always made me nervous and it's been worse since he took the crown and slew my husband. He wants me too, I can see it in his eyes. But he never does anything about it." She shivered. "One day he will, but he wants me to live in fear of that day."

Sergio frowned, "Is this thing allowed in your land. A man to take a woman against her will?" He studied her face deep in thought.

"We have a visitor, from Braavos. Master Delinaal, this is my son, Rhaegar." Sergio frowned, "Is this thing allowed in your land. A man to take a woman against her will?" He studied her face deep in thought. "Yes," she said. "Especially for a Targaryen and a king."

Lord Sergio stood easily, and offered his hand to Rheagar. Then turning back to Jeyne he asked, "So he is more feared then loved."

"Yes, very much so. Even by his own children."
She glanced at her son. "Rhaegar, my sweet, could we speak later, please? I am entertaining my guest for the present."
OOC = Rhaegar, if you want I will tag you in your own room?

"I don;t think he even has any friends, except for his dragon," Jeyne replied. "As for advisors, perhaps the queen. I don't believe the king is close to anyone at all, though. Not even the Small Council."

Rhaegar took Sergio's hand in greeting. As he did so he looked at his mother with a raised eyebrow.
"Master Delinaal, I am pleased to make your acquaintance. From Braavos by your speech and name."
He turned to his mother.
"If you wish to speak later, then by all means. I have much to tell you about the war in Oldtown." He glanced sideways at the Braavosi, then back to his mother with a warning glance.
"And much to ask you as well."

"Later then," she said. "Forgive me preoccupation but it is most important I speak with my good friend here."

"Not at all. The Small Council and members of the royal family are powerful too, but the king could override any one of them if he wished to."

"I am afraid I am not part of the king's counsels, so I could not say how such things take place. None of them confide in me. It is difficult for me, yes, because I am the traitor's widow, and, worse, I am Dornish. My children are commonly called traitorspawn. It's very hurtful," Jeyne sighed. "We would leave if the king let us, and go to my father in Dorne."

Sergio nodded, "That is a great shame. He does not allow you to leave at all." He seemed to think about that. "Who does he have watch?"

"Later then," she said. "Forgive me preoccupation but it is most important I speak with my good friend here." Rhaegar raised a silver eyebrow even further at his mother's mention of "good friend". However he said nothing and gave a short formal bow to his mother and her "friend", before leaving.

Sergio nodded, "That is a great shame. He does not allow you to leave at all." He seemed to think about that. "Who does he have watch?" Jeyne sighed as her son departed. She had deliberately exaggerated her connection with the Braavosi in order to learn more about his purpose in visiting her, which she thought would be difficult if Rhaegar had remained. "The guards watch us, the goldcloaks and the black. My children had dragons before my husband rose in rebellion but that was no freedom for them afterwards. They were not permitted to fly without a fellow dragonrider's escort. But Rhaegar and Elsey have lost their dragons so they have even less freedom now."

"The King can do this thing? Just steal away a dragon?" He stroked his chin. "I am sorry for my ignorance but our world's are vastly different. And what you says seems wrong."

"It doesn't matter if we think it's wrong," she said. "It is the law of this land. But Vermax and Nenyan were slain in battle, and my husband's dragon long before. The king did not take them away from my children. Even he was not so foolish as to come between dragon and rider."

"You are very kin. It benefits the crown to let everyone believe dragons are near impossible to kill, but it isn't so. I wonder that you had not heard of the deaths yet. Perhaps the news has not made it to Braavos yet." She sighed. "I am no dragonrider, though I flew with my husband on occasion, but it's said the skill of the rider has much to do with it."
