"One of King's enemies?" Kesi repeated. "And how long am I to be having?"

"Yes, te king's enemies. You may have as long as you need. But sooner is better, if you ever hope to learn from me."

"Then will be done." Kesi said. "Will be seeing you when you are seeing my work."

"Of course. I will bid you a good day." Laena nodded in dismissal.

/////////////////////////////
After her meeting with the King, Rhaena went to see her Grandmother. Having changed quickly, she was wearing a deep red dress, with black decroation on the bodice. It was one of her nicer ones, but as always she just wore what she'd fancied, rather than actively dressing up.
She knocked on the door and waited to be allowed in.

It didn't take long before a maid came to let her in. She curtsied with a smile and then call out "Princess! Princess Rhaena is here."
The woman hurried to a corner and picked up some sewing while the Dowager came forward. She was not a great smiler but there was a hint of relief and perhaps pleasure in her eyes as she saw her granddaughter. She embraced Rhaena, briefly, before seating herself and indicating that Rhaena should join her.
"I am very pleased to see you safe," Laena announced. "So your grandfather was avenged, I trust?"

"He was," Rhaena said shortly, sitting, "The war is over," There was no hint of pride or pleasure in her voice, she looked almost as if they had lost, with an almost solemn expression, "How are you faring, Grandmother?"

"Well enough. I had thought to go south to take a look at the library of the Citadel. But it would not have been wise to leave the capital with only your father and Balerion to guard it. I so long to see the old books," Laena admitted. "I know Grand Maester Benedict is hoping they might be brought back to us, too. But no matter, I am no warrior. There will be time enough now we have peace."

"I shall warn you," she said, frowning, "there are no books of a less than conventional that are really worth anything," she said, hoping Laena would understand her meaning, "I took the citadel, but the Archemaesters had alrady set a section of books on fire, that could not be saved. The majority of the library was untouched, so the Grand Maester should be satisfied enough."

Laena grimaced. "That is fortunate. Have arrangements been made to transport the books here? As for the others, well, I will not deny I am disappointed. I had hoped to learn much from those rare old books, and I could have helped with your...affliction, too."

"I think one of the traitorspawn knows," she said, looking away from her grandmother, eyes cast down, "At least she suspects... I am more saddened for Daenya though. I had hoped there may have been something there for her."

"Yes. I was too," Laena agreed. "We shall have to think about alternatives. You are speaking of Elseyris, I presume?"

"I am. I do not like her knowing. If she does know. She could tell people," Rhaena said, not looking like it bothered her too much, but her eyes were restless and not landing on anything properly, except the times she looked into Laena's eyes, "It would get out at some point."

"Yes, it could," Laena agreed. "I want that no more than you do. Do you wish me to speak with the girl, warn her to hold her tongue?"
Everyone knew that Laena had once urged the king to execute the three traitorspawn so it was a reasonable assumption on Laena's part that they would be nervous in her presence.

"If she would tell anyone I imagine it would be Aegon, whom I think she has designs on, and if that is the case then she would have already told him." Rhaena said, and properly met Laena's eye now, "Though, in all honesty, what do u care if people know? Does it bother you? What people say about you?"

"I never listen to gossip about myself," Laena remarked. "I am old enough not to care. But it is different for you. I pursued my abilities and learned to control them. Yours are unpredictable and might cause someone to think you are not so different from your sister." She meant Daenya, of course.
She let that hang in the air for a moment and then she said "Tell me about Aegon and Elseyris. Why do you think the girl has designs on him?"

"I want to learn how to control it, I nearly hurt elseyris, I was lucky it was the shadows, if it were the fire then I could have burned her. What if it happens to someone I actually care about?" Rhaena said, exasperated, then took a deep breath, calming herself down.
"I can't confirm anything about them, but they spend an awful lot of time together, and she is a member of his personal guard, and she doesn't exactly strike me as the best suited to that role, but when I asked her if they had laid together, she pointed ignored the question, which is as good as a yes to me. If it had been a no, I imagine she'd have said so." Rhaena explained.

Laena let out a short bark of laughter. "Oh dear. That is damning idea. Silly girl, he can't marry her. Perhaps something can be done about that. But as for your powers, have you ever tried to control them?"

"He did deal the death blow, he can marry who he chooses. I know it will not be me." She did not seem too bothered by that idea.
"I am not usually in a good frame of mind when they flare up, it does sometimes happen when I am happy, but it is mostly with my more negative emotions. Should I not try and control when it happens before I start trying to control what happens?"
|

Laena listened. "Your father will never allow his heir to marry traitorspawn, no matter what promises he previously made. As for your powers, you do nothing to cause them to happen, is that right? So you must use them when they flare up, not try to force them. You must learn how to control them when they are already working before you try to summon them."

"Are you saying... That I should not try and hold back my emotions so much? That it would be better to let it flare so I can try and get a grasp on it?" She asked, unsurely.

"In some circumstances, yes. But how else are you going to learn to control your powers if you have next to no chance to experience them."
Laena thought for a moment.
"What exactly makes you angry, Rhaena? A few examples would be useful."

Rhaena looked at her grandmother, away and then back.
"Everything," she said, very quietly after a long pause. She was angry and frustrated the majority of the time. "Elseyris only spoke to me in a manner I found... Unworthy, and I just... I don't know. It is the smallest thing. We cannot choose what makes us mad" She thought suppressing it made her angry all the time, until it bubbled over, "I very nearly lost it with Maekar the other day, I am quite surprised he was not further wounded, because he did not do as I asked." She was concerned with admitting that, seeing as Maekar was her favourite grandchild.

Laena's eyes narrowed. "I thought Maekar was fond of you," she remarked. "What did he do to make you angry? Did you do him harm with your powers?"

"No, nothing happened, I thought it might, but it did not, though he has received wounds due to me," she explained, going a bit paler at the idea of hurting Maekar with them, she'd never forgive herself if she did, "and yes, he is fond of me, we are very fond of one another, as it happens. He did something I always told him not to when we laid together after the battle, that may have made things very problematic for is both, but particularly me."
