"My father was a prince and rightful ruler of the Six Kingdoms." replied Rhaegar calmly. "I am his heir and as such, the representative of the senior line of King Aenys. Maegor, who calls himself King, is an usurper, kinslayer and worshipper of false gods."
He glanced up at the walls of Sunspear. "But I am also half-Dornish and so I have come to the land of my mother's people. To meet with its' ruler the Princess Sarella."

"Yes, and I know why. You wish for Dornish help to claim the Iron Throne of Westeros. Her Grace has no wish to do so. She has expressed concern that you may be a spy." Prince Trystane folded his arms across his chest. "We have heard tales of a dragon stealing our livestock. Does the creature belong to you?"

"A spy for who?" retorted Rhaegar, still calm. "Maegor and his spawn? The man who killed my father and abused my mother and sisters? I think not."
He waved at his company who stood waiting a short while away.
"If I was a spy why would I come to Sunspear openly with my supporters, Lord Yronwood, Lord Fowler and Lord Manwoody and this lady here, the heiress of Lord Wyl? There they stand. I am sure there are far more covert ways to enter the city, if I truly were a spy."
He shrugged his shoulders. "And I know nothing of any dragon stealing your livestock."

Rhaegar's arguments seem to fall on deaf ears. Prince Trystane continues to frown. "We at Sunspear have no reason to love or trust dragonspawn. Your appearance here does not please us. But Princess Sarella will give you an opportunity to prove your sincerity, if you care to hear it?"

Rhaegar nodded respectfully. "I understand your hesitation, given the recent history between Dorne and the Targaryens. But be assured I have no love for the man who currently seats himself on the Iron Throne. He is my sworn enemy."
He gave a quick glance at Alayne as he spoke before returning to his gaze to the Prince.
"But please continue Prince Trystane."

Alayne waved merrily at Rhaegar and winked at him.
"Princess Sarella commands that you hunt down the dragon and slay it, bringing its head to us as proof of your deed. You may take such of your companions as wish to go, but Ser Aurane Dalt and Ser Elyas Sand will accompany you at my request."

"And then?" said Rhaegar his face still calm.

After a moment he mouthed the word " What?" to his counterpart.

"If you succeed, you may enter Sunspear and speak to Princess Sarella," Trystane replied.
Aurane shrugged. "That is the princess' wish. We are to observe, chiefly, but it would be foolish not to be prepared."

"But Prince Trystane declared it to be his wish, which confused me, for I am in the service of his mother, not him, as of yet at least."

Rhaegar shook his head at Trystane.
"I am willing to hunt down this dragon and bring the Princess its head, but I shall need to make preparations to do so. We are not currently equipped to hunt dragons having travelled the breadth of Dorne to meet with the Princess."
He waved at his companions. "And would the Princess be willing to offer mortal insult to three of her more important bannerman by refusing to let them enter her city when they have come so far to meet her?"

"Prince Trystane speaks with his mother's voice in this," Aurane whispered to Elyas. "They held council together when Lady Alayne brought her message. It seems this princeling has the friendship of the Marcher lords. That's most troubling. So he must prove his mettle or die in the attempt."

"Your companions may enter the city if they desire, but we will not suffer a Targaryen to enter the city until he proves his worth. The bulk of their men will remain outside the gates also."

"The marchers should have learned of the consequences of aligning with a dragon when they last did so." Elyas muttered darkly. "The lesson was quite clear to me."

"I need to make preparations." Rhaegar repeated. "Slaying a dragon is no easy task. If the Princess will not allow me to enter Sunspear, I would ask that the Princess grant a safe conduct for me and those of my company, who will accompany me on this quest, throughout the rest of Dorne."
He indicated his companions once again.
"And I will need to consult with my followers on this before I agree. You will assure me Prince Trystane, on your word as a knight, that the Princess would demand this price for any Targaryen who wishes to enter the city or speak with the Princess?" he asked. "Even an envoy of Maegor the Usurper?"

"Some people never learn," Aurane replied. "Lord Yronwood is most ambitious."
Elyas realises that he can see Lord Fowler at the far end of Rhaegar's party, though he is currently engaged in conversation with Lord Manwoody.

Elyas realises that he can see Lord Fowler at the far end of Rhaegar's party, though he is currently engaged in conversation with Lord Manwoody. Elyas' scowl darkened even more, both at the conceited response of Rhaegar to a most generous offer, and the realization that the man who had raised him was once again committing treason. This time he shall not have my blessing. Elyas vowed to himself.

"Even an envoy of Maegor the Usurper?" Prince Trystane met Rhaegar's gaze confidently. "Maegor's envoy would be met with a rain of arrows and no chance of negotiation. And I will thank you to remember that you come to us a stranger, and a foreigner, little more than a beggar. You will speak to me with the respect owed to a possible host, as my rank and situation demands. I am Princess Sarella's eldest son and heir to the Spear Throne of Sunspear. But by all means consult with your companions. But I will further remind you that the lords Yronwood, Manwoody and Fowler - and my lady of Wyl - are Dornish lords who have sworn oaths of fealty to our princess. If they know what is good for them, they will recall that the penalty for oathbreaking is death." Manwoody and Fowler whispered urgently amongst themselves and Alayne looked rather worried. Only Lord Yronwood, Rhaegar's stalwart grandsire and closest ally, seemed unfazed by the threat.

OOC: Typo Marie, fowler should be Yronwood.
Elyas watched them go, easing his tense grip on the bow he held.

Alayne gave Prince Trystane a last lingering glance before riding towards Rhaegar and the others.
Ser Aurane muttered "Well, that's set the snake among the pigeons. Bloody fool, who does he think he is? Well, seems like we have a dragon hunt afoot." He seemed rather amused at the prospect, despite his evident preparations.

Alayne gave Prince Trystane a last lingering glance before riding towards Rhaegar and the others. A tall man rode out on a horse behind the heiress of Wyl. His surcoat was a pale yellow, with a reddish-brown mountain emblazoned in the center. A spear was slung on a sheath along side his horse, and his armor was scaled copper, but he wore no helm. A half dozen riders and a small baggage train sat under a banner bearing the same sigil, about fifty yards back from the Martell party. When they reached the spot that Rhaegar conferred with this Marcher Lords, the man drew the reigns of his horse back, and paused near the would-be Prince, sizing him up for a moment. "I would speak with Prince Rhaegar Targaryen as well. I am Ser Osmund Martyne, the Lord of Sandstone and Warden of the Broken Arm." Rhaegar remembered his childhood lessons of the Lords of Dorne, and though his memories of the Lords of Blackstone were vague, he knew that they were a house created in the wake of Aegon the Conqueror's failed attempt to annex Dorne decades earlier. They were sworn to the Tolands of Ghost Hill, and held wide swathed land on Dorne's eastern coast, though they were were not overly wealthy.
