Brandon nodded, and as swiftly as possible was armored, and atop Aerion, who was already grumbling at having been awakened in the dead of night.
Brandon followed Orys to the site, before scanning down below it to see what was transpiring.

This time they saw a group of liveried guards arrive with an old woman, two young children, a teenage girl and a man in his middle years whom Brandon thought might have been one of the magisters. The group began to board the vessel.

Considering that it might be either an escape attempt or a a decoy Brandon was reluctant to re direct all of their dragons to cover it. "Go back" he told Orys, "and have the volantene a send us a ship to intercept. Have the rest come to battle stations and prepare for the lysenes to try some trick. I will shadow this ship after it leaves harbor and assist the volantene ship in intercepting it."

"I will, my lord. Just one ship?" The young drgonrider readied himself to go.
They saw two more men heading towards the Lysene ship.

"More if they can spare it, but tell them not to jeopardize the blockade." Brandon replied.

Orys nodded and flew off. Captain Maegyr was able to spare two ships which began heading towards the small port.
Brandon sees five swordsmen hurrying towards the Lyseni ship at present, but they seem to be the last.

Brandon gave a long languid circle, so it was not immediately apparent whether he was watching, while he waited for the ship to set sail.

A short time later, the ship did indeed set sail. Brandon could not yet see his allies approaching, however.

Brandon trailed the ship by air, comfortable that he would not lose sight of it if he kept a relatively high altitude, while he strained his neck to see if his ships were on the way, or if they were too far away to be likely to intercept.

The two Volantene ships were on their way but both they and the Lyseni ship had unfurled all their sails, and the Lyseni had the advantage thus far. But they hadn't seen the dragon yet.

Brandon knew that when they spotted him they would bolt, and the Volantenes would likely never catch up then. He continued to wait until he considered the ship far enough from its home port that no Lysenes could help them. Then, positioning himself so the sun was at Aerion's back, and thus his approach would be shielded, he closed in at high speed. He cried out for Aerion to give a burst of flame to keep everyone on the top deck's distracted, and then urged hte beast to smash the ship's main sail with its powerful talons, if it could.
OOC: Noteworthy Dragon-riding? Cunning Bonus, maybe?

Luckily for Brandon, the dragon's flame burned across the deck. Men screamed and panicked. The dragon slammed down against the mast, its wait driving the huge trunk of wood from its setting and heaving it over. Wood splintered as it crashed to the deck, crushing two men beneath it, and injuring others. Men screamed and then Brandon heard a woman screaming too, her voice cutting through him more sharply than the cries of the wounded men. Chaos was everywhere. He saw men throw the rowboat into the sea while another threw down a rope ladder and urged a woman and weeping child to descend.

Brandon undid the chain that kept him strapped into the saddle, and brought Aerion low above the deck, where he jumped off, landing with a roll and came up, sword drawn.
"Stay close!" he yelled at the beast, before advancing.
While the men were distracted by the ladder, Brandon set upon them.

Brandon managed to cut several men down but the screams were growing louder and the flames burned higher and brighter, getting closer to him. He knew he would have to get off the ship somehow. Meanwhile, the women and children were making for the rowboat, and some of the men threw themselves into the water rather than burn or fight. Brandon realised there was a high possibility the ship would go down with anyone still aboard it, if the fire wasn't put out.

Brandon did not expect to fight the fire himself. "Aerion dive!" He instructed pointing at the water beside the ship. With any luck the splash from Aerion's bulk would slow the burn. He dove into the row boat.
"Stand fast" he instructed to the occupants. If any men moved for weapons he would kill them without delay.

A huge wave splashed over onto the ship, extinguishing part of the flames but not all.
The rowboat halted. In it were the women and children and a handful of men at the oars. An old man sat in the stern. He looked up at Brandon, trembling. "Mercy, lord. We are simply trying to protect our women and children."

Brandon scanned the rowboat for the man he had previous identified as the possible magister.
"Who are these people?" He demanded.

"The families of Ormollen and Forellin," the old man said. "My daughter is wife of Magister Forellin." He indicated one of the women, who gathered her children round her and eyed Brandon with fear. "He stayed on the ship, the fool, thought you would leave us be."
One of the other men looked up from his oar, though he looked too plump and well fed to have managed it well if they had escaped. "Magister Ormollen was my brother. He died because of your kind, dragonspawn." He spat into the sea in contempt.

"And you'll die for your treachery as he died for his," Brandon replied. "But if you surrender peacebly, the women and children will not be harmed."
In truth they would not be harmed anyway, but it was better to have leverage.
"Where is the chest you took aboard. I can not imagine you left without it." He said calmly, as the ship cracked up around them.

"There wasn't time," Ormollen confided. "And you know we have no place to run. We had to safeguard our children and our own lives."
There were more screams and splashes into the water as men fled from the vessel, attempting to save their lives and swim for shore, which now seemed a very long distance away.

Brandon clicked his tongue, "There are ships coming, try to find something that floats and hang on to it," he instructed those splashing about aimlessly.
"Lys voted to expel you, or you fled?" He asked.

Some of the men seemed to find bits of debris but he saw other treading water or swimming desperately, while one went down under the water and didn't come back up again.
"We fled, before they had the chance to make the decision," Ormollen admitted. "It seemed the safest option."
"Aye," the old man grumbled. "So you insisted. I wish we'd stayed and turned you over to this fellow and his beast. I might as well have taken my chances in Lys, for all the good flight did me. I came for my daughter, no other reason."

Brandon scowled, "You took with you no wealth?" He asked. "Where did you expect to go?"

Ormollen said angrily "How could we go down to the cabin to get our gold? Gold is heavy, and it was in the cabins. You set our ship alight. How much time do you think we had?"

"I do not know how criminals think," Brandon replied. He contemplated simply tossing the man overboard, but decided against it.
"How many of your brethren chose not to flee?" he asked instead.
