"I trust My Lord Hand is well?" Elsey asked, offering Janos some wine. "It is good that we finally get a change of scenery, is it not?" "Well enough" Janos said accepting the glass. "The corridors were getting a bit stale" he joked. "You have many places to be, it is understandable that many would catch you in the spaces between them," Elsey said, smiling pleasantly. "But I meant the Keep in general, though I imagine you get more opportunity to go elsewhere than I."

"Simply put, the aftermath of a war is a whole new form of chaos" Janos said. "Though I suppose it is better than chaos where travelling the countryside is liable to cause death or kidnapping." he joked. "The real issue is that between time I have to put into work, and time I must dedicate to other matters, I only get down to the dragon pits once every week or so"

"Yes, I suppose war lets people put off the chaos within themselves and their relationships," Elsey responded, her expression a little distant, a memory crossing her mind.
"That is a shame that you do not get much time with your dragon. Have you had Caligo from a hatchling?"

"No, I only encountered Caligo about a month after coming to Kings landing" Janos said,

"Really? Did you have another dragon before?"

"No, I only wound up with Caligo due to some... interesting luck" Janos said.

"Interesting luck? Now this I must respectfully request you do tell, My Lord Hand!" Elsey said, intrigued.

"Well, it started when one squire who I had befriended decided a hunting trip in the Kingswood was in order" Janos said. "So, there we were with a few off duty guards, travelling through the Kingswood, no idea where we were going when bandits ambushed us, taking me and the one surviving guard as hostages I would guess. So we would have been traveling blindfolded for a day or so when Caligo tried to kill us"

"Goodness! So, how did you tame him if you were blindfolded?"

"Well, to give a bit more context, the bandits were making quite the noise, right up until they turned a corner and stumbled upon the sleeping form of Caligo. Who was quite unhappy at being woken up, and burnt half the bandits, while scaring off the rest" Janos said. "From there I was in the middle of the kingswood, with a broken leg, and some minor burns, I wasn't going to walk out of there, so after taking some time to get the ropes and blindfold off, I found Caligo sleeping once again. Suffice to say, luck and persistence is how I was able to tame him"

"That was very brave of you, most men would have just scrambled for their lives," Elsey said, looking at Janos with renewed respect. "I am glad you have lived to tell the tale."

"As am I" Janos said. "Though it was more practical desperation than bravery, I was not going to walk out of the Kingswood with a broken leg and no idea where I was, so I took the option that provided the best chance of survival"

"Nevertheless, it is no small feat to tame a dragon. Some of us were lucky enough to avoid it by having hatchlings as children," Elseyris smiled gently.
"I am not one to tell you your business, My Lord Hand, but do spend more time with your dragon when you can. Such a relationship rewards those who cultivate it."

"I was not always hand you know?" Janos joked. "I know of the relationship you speak of in my own way" He said, "Once I had recovered from my little escapade, I took a couple of years that I spent just travelling atop Caligo, The most work he has ever done likely, the lazy creature."

"You were not always Hand, but you are now, so I must accord you the respect that goes with that title. Unless it is your will that I be less formal."
It occurred to Elseyris that, not so long ago, she would have been scolded by her mother, sister, or Lissa, for just talking to anyone, asking them anything, without regard for titles or stations.
"Travelling with your dragon sounds exciting! Where did you go?"
She felt a twinge of sorrow in her heart, as she thought how much she would have loved to fly away on adventures with Nenyan.

Janos laughed momentarily "I think you missed my point there, though when not in the middle of court I'm not too concerned either way about title" He said. "What I was trying to say was that up until about 3 years ago I had a lot more time to spend with Caligo" he continued. "As to where, we mainly traveled within Westeros, though towards the end we did take some time for a short trip along the other side of the Narrow sea, visiting some of the cities there" He finished.

"Ah, I see. My apologies. I am a dreadful courtier, truly. I misread people all too often," Elsey said, embarrassed.
"Does His Grace work you very hard then? You certainly seem to have to consult many enormous books."

"Not to worry" Janos said. "I get a fair amount of work, though his grace does do far more than he needs to" he continued. "A lot of that extra load of books and such comes from outside sources"

"Outside sources? Are you conducting research?"

"Now you just intrigue me further, My Lord Hand," Elseyris smiled, her expression curious. "May I ask what you are researching? The pursuit of knowledge is an admirable goal."

"Just some stuff around a couple of bloodlines, and a few extra things, you probably would find it quite boring" Janos said, slightly evasively.

"Quite the contrary, My Lord Hand, genealogy sounds rather interesting, and, to be frank, it is idle talk about trivial matters that I find boring," Elsey said, with a knowing smile.
"What can you tell me about it?"
Her phrasing was precise, careful to tread the line between curiosity and prying, allowing Janos to say as much or little as he wanted.
