"I cannot know the will of the gods," Aegon replied. "And Volantis' wars are little cause for concern for Westeros one way or another, so long as they do not involve us."

"I quite agree, but we would hope to be friends. At least, the Tigers very much desire friendship with the Targaryens of Westeros. Such an alliance can only be to our mutual advantage," she said. "Why else would you come, if not to make friends among your neighbours?"

"A man can never have too many friends," Aegon answered, slightly amused, "But I prefer to know at least their names before making an alliance."

"I happen to be most intimately acquainted with them," she said. "let's just say I know this house very well. Do you know about the Tigers and the Elephants yet?" "To say I know would probably be an injustice, but I have been told, and I have heard a bit," she said, smiling, "I think we Targaryens would consider ourselves to be tigers... Well, most of us. I dunno not know if it considered rude to ask what persuasion you are, seeing as I cannot know your name"

"A man can never have too many friends," Aegon answered, slightly amused, "But I prefer to know at least their names before making an alliance." "Of course you do. My name is Lianna Maegyr," she replied. "My sister is a Triarch of the tigers." "To say I know would probably be an injustice, but I have been told, and I have heard a bit," she said, smiling, "I think we Targaryens would consider ourselves to be tigers... Well, most of us. I dunno not know if it considered rude to ask what persuasion you are, seeing as I cannot know your name" "I am a tiger," she said. "This is my family's house. You are being hosted by the tigers. Many Maegyrs have been triarchs, and all are tigers."

"Then well met, Lady Lianna. I cannot offer an alliance at this ball, but I can certainly offer a dance." Aegon extended his hand to her.

"Ah but all strange creatures are wondrous to behold for the first time, and we cannot all have a dragon." She stroked her hand across his upper arm. "Even knights are wondrous to a woman of Volantis. You are a rare breed here." Brandon was naturally a suspicous person. The idea that a woman would flirt with him, merely because she found him attractive did not occur to him. "Yes, well that is not surprising," he said coolly. "But really we are not so interesting I think."

"I should tell you, I am a very good dancer," she replied. "I have been attending a ball at least once a week since my first flowering. Do you have balls often in Westeros?" Brandon was naturally a suspicous person. The idea that a woman would flirt with him, merely because she found him attractive did not occur to him. "Yes, well that is not surprising," he said coolly. I think you could use something to make you smile, am I not right?"

Arenya decided not to dress up, but she did wear a black and white tiger patterned mask. She didn't want to interact too much, as she wanted to keep an eye on Rhaena but she did spot the Lord Commander with what seemed to be an admirer.
She chuckled as she leaned against the wall. He was a very handsome man, a little rigid, but still handsome. Arenya smiled.

"In that case, it is only fair to warn you that I am a notoriously poor one," Aegon smiled, "But I shall endeavor not to embarrass you, Lady Lianna." Aegon leads the Volantene woman out onto the dance floor. He is a somewhat stiff and conservative dancer, lacking the fluid grace of the best, though he follows along with the music gamely enough. "We do have dancing in Westeros," he continued during a lull in the music, "Though less frequently than your people. Do you not grow tired of them?"

"Perhaps, but I do not smile quickly. I'm sure there are others who would prove an easier challenge." "Easy challenges are dull," she replied. "Harder challenges are more meaningful, and more fun. I am determined not to release you until you smile. So, the decision is yours." "In that case, it is only fair to warn you that I am a notoriously poor one," Aegon smiled, "But I shall endeavor not to embarrass you, Lady Lianna." "Dancing is my favourite thing in the world! If you end up dancing so much your feet ache, there's always people to talk to and good wine to drink. The palace has many fine alcoves to sit and talk, or sip the finest summerwine. Perhaps I shall show you the gardens. They are very beautiful in the moonlight." And so am I, her tone implied.

Aegon danced and smiled politely enough, though he was losing interest in the girl. "I enjoy a dance with a pretty girl, but eventually one must put away the wine and dancing shoes and get to work. Do you not have responsibilities to attend to on behalf of your house?" Aegon asked.

She laughed. "My duties are towards the guests. Our stewards have arranged matters with the servants. My sister is the Triarch, you see." She smiled sweetly and moved close, almost touching him. "If you are bored of the celebrations we could find somewhere private to walk."

"I am fine here," Aegon replied, wondering whether all Free Cities nobility instructed their sisters and daughters to throw themselves at him, or if it was just instinct. "I should not want to disappear and give my betrothed cause to worry."

"That is good to know," she said smiling' even if it was a little strained. She felt like she was being patronised. Small sentences, simple words, like she was being helped through it. "We have no parties in westeros, the king is the king and he can appoint anyone to the small council, and remove anyone from it."

"We have no parties in westeros, the king is the king and he can appoint anyone to the small council, and remove anyone from it." "Oh." The pirate woman frowned. "I cannot imagine having that much power. Triarchs can hold office for many years, so long as they are in favour, but they still have to put themselves up for re-election at the end of the year. What is this Small Council you speak of? We do not have such a thing here. Are these the men and women who help the King rule?" "I am fine here," Aegon replied, wondering whether all Free Cities nobility instructed their sisters and daughters to throw themselves at him, or if it was just instinct. "I should not want to disappear and give my betrothed cause to worry." She sighed and stepped slowly away from him. "Ah, a man faithful to his love. What a wondrous thing love is. Your princess is lucky to have you," she replied, apparently sincere. "I wish you joy of one another."

"My thanks, my lady," Aegon replied with a small and courteous bow as she stepped away. "If you find love with your husband one day, my lay, I advise you to hold on to it. It is a rare and precious thing."

She returned his smile and then glided away, purposely giving him a good view of her figure as she did so. It was his loss, after all.

Monogamy did not mean that Aegon could not enjoy the view, which he did. He could respect the grace of the young women's exit, particularly in contrast to the Archon of Tyrosh's daughter.
He looked to his sworn shield and attendant, Ser Rolf, whom he had grown accustomed to relying on in the past weeks. "How long do you think I need to stay at this thing until it is no longer seen as rude to leave?" He asked the man curiously.

"Not much longer, my prince. You might claim a headache," Ser Rolf suggested. "That's a common excuse for leaving a formal event and nobody will be rude enough to ask questions about that."
