"Ah yes. We did come by ship from Gulltown. The high road would have meant we might have to face the clansmen, and why fight them at all if it can be avoided? One day I hope to deal with them for good, but that day ha not yet arrived." He paused. "I would be honoured to see your fleet, my lady."

"Ah, the clansmen. I could fly down there and let them taste some of Mith's fire, if need be," Dany offered kindly, and smiled. "It is settled then. Most of my fleet is back at Driftmark, but Dauntless remains in the city's harbour. We could go on that. My late father gave her to me on my last name day; she is a beauty. My new flagship, the Silver Storm is still being prepared," she said, even though technically the ship would not be new.

"That sounds ideal," he said. "I'd be honoured to sail with you. And I'd be doubly honoured if you cared to give the clansmen a good fright and a dose of dragonfire." He grinned and took her hand. "My lady, you are far too good to me."

"That is the least I could for your kind offer," Daenerys replied, her cheeks tinting just a little. "If it spares lives and trouble, I would be happy to do it."

"I am sure it will do. The clansmen have been plaguing us for hundreds of years. Even the kings of Mountain and Vale had the clansmen to contend with. I think a dragon would be just the thing to keep them in line. If it works, perhaps I shall have to see about taming a dragon myself," he joked.

"I would not recommend that," Dany replied, even though he had not been entirely serious. "Had I not gotten an egg when I was a child, I would probably not have a dragon right now. Could you imagine trying to tame a grown dragon? I would not wish that on anyone, and I have some Targaryen blood in me. I am sure it would work, with the clansmen."

"Let us hope the clansmen have never even seen a dragon," he mused. "And yes, you are quite right, my lady. I've heard that a dragon can kill the person trying to ride it. I doubt I would would be lucky enough. But no matter, as long as I have a friend with a dragon, that is all I need."

"Dragons are known to kill people that dare to stand too close to them, let alone attempt to ride them," said Dany and smiled, setting down her glass. "Do you care walking your friend with a dragon back to the keep? It is getting awfully late."

Edmyn was never one to let his courtesies fail. "I would be happy to," he said at once. "I could not let a lady walk unescorted. Though I am sure you mean only to flatter my manhood by the request. What could a dragonrider possibly have to fear in this city? I am sure your dragon would know if you were at risk, and come soaring to your defence." He smiled gently to show he was teasing.

"Or perhaps I just mean to get to know you a little better, seeing as I will be visiting you soon," Dany said and rose. "Shall we?"

He immediately stood. "Of course, my lady." As they walked towards the door, he offered her his arm. "I hope I am adequate protection for a lady."

Daenerys linked her arm with Edmyn's, smiling brightly. "If all fails, there are always these two," she joked, nodding at her guards, who followed them at a respectable distance.

"So there are," he agreed. "But I'm sure I'm a better swordsman than either of them." He grinned. "Though I still hope we don't need to put that to the test."
He looked at the road ahead. "Do you never take a litter in the city?"

"So they tell me," she agreed, having heard somewhere that he was good with a sword. "Oh of course I do, sometimes. Like when I visit the orphanages, or get invited to a really fancy party. Other times I just take my horse from the stables, or walk, if the distance is not too long. I do not mind walking around the keep, but the downhill you go, the worse the smell gets."

"True." He laughed. "Surely you don't stray as far down as Flea Bottom? That's no place for a highborn lady. I've heard such horrible tales of the place."

"I have not been there so I cannot say," Dany said. "I have heard the same things. I do feel a bit bad for the peasants living down there, though. Their lives must be terrible."

Oh yes. But there are poor people everywhere, especially in cities. It's not much better in Gulltown, though the Graftons do have the septons hand out bread and gruel to the needy." He leaned in closer to her. "It doesn't bear thinking about. I remember being hungry on campaign, and that was bad enough. At least I knew there would be food again some day."

"You are right, of course," Dany replied with a smile when he leaned in. "Where were you on campaign again? I do believe you have not mentioned it to me yet."

"I fought with the Prince of Dragonstone, particularly in the West. There was a lot of fighting around Lannisport." He smiled. "My father has a close bond with the Prince, and was kind enough to extend his friendship to myself and my brother."

"Ah, so you must have helped the prince lift the siege off of my cousins at Casterly Rock as well?" Daenerys assumed. "That is a good bond to have - Prince Aegon is a decent man. I think he would make a great king."

"Aye, he will. Prince Aegon is a beacon of hope for the future. He is a good leader of men and he cares about the people."

Post by Bertram Targaryen on Mar 22, 2014 18:59:49 GMT -5
It was time for dinner and Bertram had heard from a few of the soldiers that The Moon's Caress was a fine establishment. Walking in he immediately went to the bar and ordered a fine ale, after taking a large gulp, he began to look around the place, he always found that the best way to decide what dish you want at a new eatery was to see what others were having. Seeing young man, obviously targaryen by his eyes and hair, with a wonderful looking plate of some delicious meat, Bertram walked over.
"Excuse me Ser, may I ask what it is that you are eating there? It looks and smells glorious."

"Looks delicious!" Bertram waved at the waitress, "I'll have whatever he's having," pointing to the tray on the table, "Mind if I join you? I haven't been arount these parts in many a year, and would enjoy some company while I eat."

He took a seat across from the young man and had another swig of beer, enjoying the silent company while the two ate. After they finished their meal Bertram broke the silence, "That was a most delicious meal, thank you for the suggestion. My name is Bertram Targaryen," Bertram held out his hand to the young man, "and who might you be?"

"It has been many years since someone has used that title. You must know your local history quite well, but please, call me Bertram." He said, clearly impressed.
"Captain of the Gold Cloaks, you must be quite the warrior. How long have you held your post?"
