Rhaella nodded. "Yes, you did well. Few can say they crossed paths with the Dragonbane and lived. You can be proud of that. I would like to see that side of Daenya more often."

"It wasn't even the other, mother..." Daenya admitted, looking away. "She was the one who burned the soldiers... it was me who fought him." She bit her lip. "I guess perhaps as your squire I should have been with you?"

"Yes, probably, but you wanted to go to Oldtown, so it doesn't matter. And now you are wounded. So you can resume your squire's duties after you are healed," Rhaella suggested. "For now, I must remain here a little while to supervise matters while your uncle Aemon is injured. Amethyst will give any possible rebels pause, I believe, and your uncle has no dragon at present. He will need to claim a new mount before he takes up his duties here."

Daenya nodded. "I will return to the capital soon but if there is anything you need me to do then I will do it, mother." She smiled. "Though I still intend to visit the Summer Isles."

"Oh. Why do you want to do that?" Rhaella asked. "I hear they are dreadfully uncivilised. Do you really think it's appropriate for you go to a place where their morals are so loose?"

"I am interested in their culture and I also think they could be a useful ally to the Iron Throne," Daenya told her mother. "Imagine if we had their fleet!"

"Indeed. It is worth considering, but a skilled diplomat would be a better envoy," Rhaella answered. "These things have to be handled properly."

"And how does a skilled diplomat become what he is?" Daenya countered. "I believe father would let me go."

"Perhaps he would, but you ought take someone more experienced with you. It wouldn't do for you to have one of your terms in the middle of negotiation," Rhaella warned. "And they will expect someone of full age to meet them."

"Adara is coming with me," Daenya said, more forcefully now. "If you want to tell someone what to do try it on someone else, because it won't work on me."

Rhaella let out a cry of disgust. "Adara! You seriously think that good for nothing slut will make a good diplomat. You are a fool if that is what you believe! You are better than that, Daenya. Diplomacy is not a game, and Adara has not a serious bone in her body."

"I don't care what you think, she knows of their customs and their culture," Daenya replied, turning to the exit. "Wasn't you who faced the Dragonbane and lived."

"I fought his army here in Oldtown years ago," Rhaella answered, anger rising. "And here I stand. You will show me respect as your mother and your queen."
She grabbed Daenya, pulled her over her knee and started to spank her as if she were still a little girl.

Daenya pushed her way off her mother and got up.
"Don't you fucking touch me!" She growled, her tone venomous and her eyes angry. She tilted her head and smiled then stepped towards the exit.
"All this and you haven't even said anything about your dead daughter." She turned and left.

Rhaella watched Daenya go with a little sigh. She was still hurting too much to talk to Daenya about Aemy, especially after Daenya was in the middle of one of her turns. She just couldn't think of the bad Daenya with affection and dreaded her appearance. And besides, what use was it to talk of Aemy now. Nothing would bring her back. She only hoped Daenya's bad side didn't turn er in the same route.

Baelon's messenger saw Daenya leave, and stood halfway into the entrance to the tent. He cleared his throat, choosing not to ask about what the hell he just heard.

Rhaella beckoned to the messenger. "Yes?" She asked. "Is all well?"

The messenger stepped inside, holding the message out to the Queen. "Yes, mil...your grace. So far as I know, that is. Captain Waters just told me, he said, take this to Oldtown, give it to the Queen. I didn't ask no questions 'cept for which way was Oldtown."

"Of course." She opened the letter and read it. Your Grace,
I realize that this may not be the most appropriate time to worry you with matters not pertaining to the war. My apologies. But my dear betrothed is of a mind to see the capital, along with her sisters, and we thought that perhaps we might hold the wedding there, once peace has been declared. I had intended to take ship there anyway. However, House Cuy has not exactly been enriched by decades of war, so if we wish to have any sort of celebration befitting a Lady and the natural brother of the King and Queen, I fear we must beg the crown to cover the costs. It need not be anything extravagant, of course. A family gathering, really. If possible, I would ask you to send your response back with my rider. Please do not be offended if his manners are crude, for he is not much used to dealing with royalty. Any word from the Arbor would be appreciated, as well.
My deepest condolences about Valarr.
Your brother, with love,
Baelon Rhaella sat thinking for a moment. Then she fetched pen and paper and began to write in her elegant handwriting. Afterwards, she gave the letter to the messenger. "Here, take this back to my brother>"

The messenger took the letter, bowed, and backed out of the tent.
