"I understand," Brandon said. "Ser Josua, I had some questions about the current disposition of the Guard, I was hoping you could briefly summarize the status for me."

"We've got near three thousand men, my lord, same as we had under Prince Maelys. Less a few who are on sick leave and a few deats. But with the war, we couldn't recruit any more men yet."

"And where are they stationed commander? How man at the gates, how many at the keeps, how many on patrol, and such." Brandon asked.

"A dozen men on each gate, all the time. We've got a hundred men on the castle walls, a hundred on duty in the Red Keep, and another hundred inside Maegor's Holdfast. The men patrol the city in pairs. We have three patrols on duty in each district, and double it on special occasion. There's always at least twenty men on duty in the barracks for emergencies. Oh, and two hundred on the city walls."
He paused as he finished this and looked expectantly at Brandon waiting for comments.

"And the Targaryen House Guards? How many of them, and how well do you coordinate with their commander?"

"There's a few hundred of them," Ser Josua replied. "They guard the Red Keep, of course. I don't really speak to their commander, my lord. He has his duties, I have mine. They are always on duty, of course, especially in Maegor's Holdfast. Some of them went south with the Crown Prince, though, so we've not got so many on duty now."
OOC = sorry I missed this yesterday, it slipped by me when the internet kept shutting off!

"What about at the Dragon Pit?" Brandon asked, thinking back to his dream.

"We usually post half a dozen men at the Dragonpit. Gold cloaks, not black cloaks. We have to pay those men higher wages, because of the danger. Some won't even go near the dragons for fear of them."

"I'm concerned about the safety of the dragons," Brandon replied, "They are a symbol of his graces reign. We... lost some, recently, at the battle of Oldtown, and I don't want anyone getting the wrong idea."

///// Seeing how the bulk of her family was either still in Oldtown or en route, Arenya wandered to the Tower to see the Lord Commander.
Maybe he would give her some hope of a stirting conversation.

Brandon looked up before she arrived, as though he heard her coming.
"Welcome back. I am glad you return unharmed," he said.

"Unharmed is the word", she grinned. "I can't say that for some that left and are coming back." Arenya turned her gaze to the horizon.
She looked at him,"How have things been since the absence of half the family? No sinister plots afoot?"

"I imagine there are always plots afoot," Brandon replied, "But things seem sufficiently quiet for the moment."

"Glad to hear that", she nodded. "Good to hear my brother still breathes on the throne." She crossed her arms,"Now what do we do? No more wars to fight for now... No more.. enemies at our gates threatening our way of life."

Surely only a fool would enter the pit with several dragons in residence?"

"There will always be new wars to fight," Brandon replied, "That's our nature." Grinning at him,"Aye brother, that is true. I find myself bored at this moment with nothing to do." "Nothing to fight, that is." Sighing. "Maegor was right, peace is boring. Or maybe it's because our entire life we have been confronted by this entity and now it's gone." Her eyes fell on him with a smile,"I don't think peace suits me."

Peace makes you fat and lazy. Susceptible to all kinds ofmischief. Thank the gods, I'm going to be a Kingsguard... soon." Chuckling,"And no, no daring-dos to report I'm afraid. I think I was with the wrong group for the battle." She sighed,"Unless you can count us losing Lord Velaryon....",She trailed off. "I had to deliver that news to his daughter, Lady Daenerys... She took it as to be expected from a child who has lost a parent."

After leaving the Lord Commander, Arenya realised that she would need to meet her fellow knights of the Kingsguard. A servant told her where their common room was so it was there she headed. Inside she saw three of her new brothers. One of them, unfortunately, was Ser Jon Gaunt, who gave her a distinctly unfriendly glance though he bowed as befit a knight to a princess.
"My lady, are you lost?" He enquired. "This is no place for a lady."

"No, I'm not lost. My proper title to address me is Princess and...," She then smirked,"I was just looking over my new surroundings..." Arenya waited to respond after his surprsied expression and then responded,"Yes....", she smiled,"I shall be living here among my NEW brothers of the White Cloak after I meet with the King, of course."

Ser Jon got to his feet and spat on the ground in contempt. "A princess cannot be a knight," he told her. "Good day."
He turned an walked out of the room.
The other man, younger, had a shock of red hair. He grinned at her as he too got to his feet. "Don't mind Ser Jon. He'll come around. So they finally let a woman in the Kingsguard, and a princess to boot "Ser Olyvar Webber." He offered his hand for her to shake in a comradely fashion.

She chuckled at his disrespectful display and replied,"Good day to you as well Ser Jon." Arenya then smiled at the younger man, pleased to see that someone was not as bullheaded as Ser Jon. She returned his handshake greeting,"Yes Ser Olyvar, and the Lord Commander made sure to give me a rough time of it. It was very hard work, but I am not one as of yet."
"My brother has the final approval, King Maegor. I have to be presented to him in order for that to happen."
