The Lord Commander was hunched over the white book, updating an entry. His, as it happened, referring to the incident with Lady Massey's daughter. It was a short entry, since Brandon found writing about himself embarassing.
He examine the woman who entered. He knew who she was, by reputation, but had not yet spoken to her. Given that reputation, he wasn't sure it was a bad thing.
"How may I help you..." he asked.

Kesi looked slightly uncomfortable herself, she had never trusted knights, not having the breed in her own country.
"I am needing help." She said softly. In admitting this she didnt feel in control already and she didnt like it.

The woman's inflection and accent puzzled him. He had just asked what she needed. Was she asserting that she didn't need help? Or admitting that she did?
"I"m sorry...'Brandon began carefully... "How may I be of service?"

"I have a boy, only little, he is wanting to learn things that I cannot be teaching him, and I do not know if he is old enough. When is being good age?" Kesi asked, having never done this for her own son she was lost.
"I am knowing that you are not being person I should be asking, but you are best knight in land no?"

"I don't know about that," Brandon replied, "But I'm knight enough perhaps I can help. How old is your little boy? Has his father nothing to say on the matter?"

"His father is being dead." Kesi answered. "Is why I am not being sure what I am to be doing. The boy is being about six, is only very small and looks four but will be strong. I am not knowing what he should be learning or what style he should be finding."
She brushed her blue hair off her forehead, and didnt mention that the child wasnt hers by blood.

"At six years old, I'm not sure how much there is to do. He'd be a little bit young to begin to serve as a page. I would say when he gets to be 8 or 9 I'd have him take a position as a page for some knight. He'd begin to learn to care for armor and weapons, and how knights are to behave, and so on," Brandon explained, "At twelve to fourteen he can serve as a squire, and really begin to learn the intimate details of serving. How to wearing and wield weapons and so on." Brandon said, considering.
"Condolences on your husbands, how did he pass?"

"It is giving me time to teach him what he is needing to know then." Kesi said with a smile, that same smle faltered when her husband was mentioned.
"I am rather not saying." She said. "He is dead, that is all that is being needed to know."

Brandon nodded. "I understand completely. I hope the child is coping well. When he's of an age, I'll be happy to meet him and perhaps make a recommendation for someone he might serve for."

"When he is of age, that would be being good I am thinking." Kesi said. "Thank you Ser. You have been being helpful to me."

OOC = Brandon recalls that he has not heard mention of Kesi's child before nor seen her out and about with a small boy either.

"You know, now that I put some thought into it, I do not think I have ever seen your son. Nor heard anyone speak about you having one." He leaned forward slightly that indicated she suddenly had more of his attention than she may have wanted.

"Just because I am not speaking of child is not meaning that I am not mother." Kesi said, not lying but not trying to tell the whole story.
"Some things are being more private, if you are having child would you want all `to know?"

"I am forbidden to have a child," Brandon replied, "There is no such prohibition for you." His foot gave a tap, "And even if you did have a child that no one knew about," he noted, "why would you desire him to be a knight? I think you're up to something curious."

"I am having no desire for him being a knight." Kesi said with a small laugh. "He desired an interest when we were talking last night, I am not so cruel to press my desires on to the child. I would rather be knowing that he is safe somewhere with no other person to be hurting him, but he is being a child and children are never wanting the same as padults."
She had to keep reminding herself that Gendry was not Nkuku.

Brandon can't help but notice she did not actually answer the real question. He waited, staring at her patiently, and crossed his arms over his chest.

Kesi met his gaze evenly.
"At end of the day, what is it mattering what I am wanting for the boy? It is being his life to live, not mine."

Perhaps it was just a culture difference, but Brandon struggled to think of any mother who would say such thing about her child. What did it matter? Oh ho, not even his mother would have said such a thing, and she was less interested than most.
"Well, let's go meet him, and see what he wants." Brandon suggested. "Perhaps I can talk him out of it."

Kesi paused, knowing this was not a good idea for Gendry to meet someone that he would be most likely to be scared of.
"I am thinking is not right time." She said. "He is not being well at this moment, and not used to manners he is needing yet."
She also still had him clothed in one of her own shirts.

"I'm sure he won't mind," Brandon replied. He was suspicious now and had a tendency towards stubbornness.

Kesi shook her head.
"I am wanting him to be better before he is seeing anyone else." She said. "As soon as he is feeling good then I will be happy for you to be meeting him."

"Thanking you." Kesi said, it was unclear if she understood that he was not happy with this outcome.
"You have been a great help to me, Ser Commander."

////////////////////////// Brandon tapped his foot in irritation. The Gold Cloak whom he'd summoned to the tower was already late. What did he want some kind of formal invitation?

After a while, the commander arrived. He was a tall, muscular man in his thirties who had served a dozen years as an officer in the City Watch before being chosen to replace Prince Maelys during his leave of absence. Brandon could not recall the man's first name but he had a feeling the man was a Byrch.
"My lord," said Ser JOsua Byrch. "Sorry for the delay, had to deal with a dispute among two city merchants."
