Waltyr squealed. "Don't burn me! I took it, my lady, but only because I don't have one. My master never gave me nice things, not like Ser Duncan. I wanted to be a squire again, but I don't have a knight. Mine died and I have to look after the baggage and things now."

"Thieves usually lose a hand," Daenya said, though her voice was calm and more comforting. "You were lucky that you got away with a beating, which will be all your punishment."
Her gaze went over to Ser Duncan. "The boy will need a new knight, otherwise there is not much promise for him."

"Yes. I suppose that is true," Ser Duncan sighed. "But I don't need two squires and it would be bet to keep the two boys apart. Perhaps Your Grace can suggest someone suitable?"

"I will see if I can find a knight to take Waltyr on," Daenya said with a nod, turning to the exit. She paused, gazing at the boy.
"Steal again and I will have Vandaras eat you. Understood?"

Waltyr nodded. "UYes, my lady, er Your Grace. I'm sorry. I just wanted pretty things."

Daenya was about to exit, then turned again.
"You want something pretty?" She asked, drawing her sword. The blade shone brightly, oiled and cleaned, while the hilt was adorned with gold. The pommel and crossguard ends were dragon heads, roaring.
"Like this sword?" She smiled.

"Yes," he said. "I've always wanted a fancy sword, my lady. My father was given a sword with an emerald in the pommel when he became a knight."

Daenya's smiled widened and she moved closer to Waltyr.
"Then hold out your hand and it will be yours."

His eyes were wide.
"But my lady...you can't! Won't the king be angry if you give away such a pretty sword? I'd be honoured, truly, but..."

"You don't want it then?" Daenya asked, one eyebrow raised.

"I do, but..." HE looked longingly at the sword. "I'm not a Targaryen. Wouldn't everyone think I stole it?"

Daenya gave an annoyed snarl and swung her sword down to slice his hand off.
"Accept a fucking gift!"

The boy screamed in agony as his hand was sliced neatly off. Blood spurted from his wrist and the hand flopped obscenely on the floor of Ser Duncan's tent. Waltyr fainted. Ser Duncan looked at Daenya with a horrified expression. "My lady! That was ill done. What will your brothers say?"

"My brothers won't care for the punishment of a thief," Daenya snarled, kicking Waltyr as he lay on the ground. "Best find him a maester before he bleeds to death."
She turned and walked out of the tent.

Ser Duncan knew his priorities. He called for a maester, and, when one was tending the boy, he set off for the Targaryen tents.

Having not been able to find any of her the commanders, and it probably best for them not to be concerned with this anyway, Rhaena Targaryen however was present, and available to be approached, she was sitting by Tyraxes, polishing her bow.

"Princess, may I speak you with?" Ser Duncan asked with a smooth bow. "It concerns the Princess Daenya. She has wronged a young lad, a squire, and there will need to be reparation."

When Rhaena heard it was about Daenya she let her head fall back against Tyraxes' heated scales and let out a sigh under her breath. After a pause she stood up, her bow over her shoulder, and a menacingly full quiver of arrows.
"Do you? If I got reparations for every time A knight came up to me making demands Tyraxes would be as fat as my brother's dragon," Rhaena replied, giving the man a steady eye. if she had her way she'd just give the boy some money and be done.
"What exactly did she do?"

Ser Duncan bowed again.
"Your Grace, I would hardly trouble you if it were not a serious matter. She cut off the lad's hand, quite deliberately. The poor lad will never be a knight now. Indeed, he doesn't even have a knight master, his last one having died in battle. I don't know him really, merely saw him about camp a few times, but I had offered him a place with me for a short while, until he found a new master to take on his training."

"Did she mention what she might have cut off his hand?" she asked, frowning, it seemed like such a petty thing for people to be complaining about. He still had his life. Tyraxes seemed to share her sense of anti climax. and blew a bit of smoke in the air before rolling over to the other side and flapping on great wing.

"There was a dispute with my own squire," Ser Duncan explained. "This boy Waltyr stole a pin I gave Agrivane. Out of envy, apparently, because he had no knight master of his own, and his last had never given him a gift. But Agrivane had thrashed him for it. I'd hoped that would be the end of it, but the princess taunted the lad, said she was going to give him her sword, then cut off his hand."
He sighed. "I am sorry, Your Grace. But there is no doubt in my mind that it was deliberate."

"I imagine it was, seeing as the boy was a thief, and thieves lose a hand?" she prompted, bored with the way this was going, "despite how she went around it, that is the appropriate response to a thief, correct?" she asked, knowing full well it was.

"That is so, but the boy is young and foolish, and it was likely a first offence. And besides, he is of noble birth." Ser Duncan frowned, rubbed his head. "There was no trial, my lady, and no sentencing, as is proper. It occurs to me to wonder if the Princess ought to be making such judgements. She is very young."

"As young as I was when I came to a battle camp," she commented, "the King allowed Princess Daenya to come, are you saying you know better than the King?" she asked him, narrowing her eyes now, "and one would imagine losing his hand will be a good reminder in the future to not break the King's laws." she commented, "he should be grateful for his status, most thieves would die on the roads, a highborn one must only live with the shame."

Ser Duncan did not look best pleased but he nodded. "Far be it from me to quarrel wit the dragon," he remarked. "The lad's father is only a landed knight, but, had he been from a higher house, there might have been...problems. It may be that the boy will learn from the situation, but I could not swear to it."
