"Oh, that will be much safer, and quicker, and you are her own kin. It would be churlish of me to insist on taking her back myself. My lady will be so happy to have her daughter back." Ser Darien smiled. "I've got to see to my men anyway. "Perhaps you could tell the king about this place and make sure none of the Faith Militant ever finds it again."

"I'll see it torn down," He agreed.

"Tat seems for the best, truly. Take good care of Lady Helaena."
Ser Darien offered a bow of farewell.

Brandon nodded, and returned back up the well, to find the girl and the Septon. "Septon. I thank you for your service today. You did the right thing, and I will make sure that its known." he turned to the girl, "Are you ready to fly dear? It's time to see your mother again."

"We are all the Mother's children," the septon remarked. "No matter what gods a man follows."
Helaena looked up at Brandon. She had clearly decided to trust him since he'd got her out of her captivity and he had a dragon. She smiled sweetly at him.
"I don't like this place. I miss Mother and Stonedance."
She stood straight and held out her hand in a gesture that reminded him of his sister the queen, though the only similarities she shared with Rhaella were the purple eyes common to Targaryens. Her long dark hair was the same colour as her father's.
"I have to thank you most humbly for rescuing me from those horrid men. You are a true and brave knight, ser, and I will never forget you," She spoke very formally for a young girl, but spoiled the effect with a little giggle at the end.

The thought crossed his mind that if he and Melody had had a child, it might have one day looked like this young Helaena. He banished the thought, before it paralyzed him.
"You're welcome my lady," he replied, "if you are ready?" he asked. He gestured to Aerion, who lowered his head to make it easier as Brandon lifted the child up and seated her on the dragon's back.
"Aerion will get us to your mother swiftly." he said. "Won't you?"
Aerion gave a steamy snort through his nostrils in affirmation. Brandon climbed onto the beast's back as well.
"hold on tight," he said, before urging Aerion into the area, making a beeline for Stonedance.

Helaena held on, but not so tight it would be uncomfortable for Aerion. It was clear she knew how to ride a dragon, after her earlier comment about flying with her father.
"My father says I might have a dragon, one day," she confided. "I hope it's white, like Aerion. White is pretty. Father's is green, and my sister has a red dragon."
They flew for a while, passing over the countryside until Brandon could see Massey's Hook up ahead.

"I have a strong preference for white myself," Brandon agreed, smiling it spite of himself, as he lined Aerion up for a landing near Stonedance's gate. The nice thing about being on a dragon, was that no guardsmen in his right mind question who you were, or on whose behalf you served. That much, at least was obvious.

Once they had landed, Helaena jumped down with confidence and said to Brandon "You have to come tell my mother that you saved me. She'll want to thank you herself."

Brandon nodded, looking up longingly at the sky. He'd been away from the King a long time. Still if he rode Aerion hard, he should still make it back in time for his shift.
"Thank you, I should be pleased to come to greet your Lady mother." He said, letting the girl lead, as she surely was pleased to be back, and in any case there would be people to fuss over her without needing Brandon in the way.

The guards greeted them with a great deal of relief. Helaena led Brandon to the solar where her mother waited. Eleanor Massey was a short woman, plain of face, with auburn hair wound in a crown around her head and a prayer book in her hand. She dropped the book at Helaena's cry of "Mother!" and ran to embrace the girl. They hugged for a while until Helaena wriggled free.
"Mother! You're embarrassing me. This man saved me."
"Ah. Lord Commander!" Lady Eleanor curtsied to him. "You are very kind, my lord. How can House Massey ever thank you? I know my husband would, if he were here, but he has gone south with the queen. I pray he never finds out that I was foolish enough to let our daughter be kidnapped. I hope I may trust to your silence?"

Brandon did not think that it was possible to keep such a secret, but he nodded, "I won't lie to him, my lady, but if he doesn't ask I see no reason to bring the matter to him, since it was resolved satisfactorily. As for thanks, none is required."

"Thank you. You have my gratitude nonetheless. Will you stay for supper? Or will you need to return to His Grace?"
While her mother spoke, Helaena embraced Brandon with a fierce hug "Thank you, ser!"

"I fear that I must return soon, but if you are ever at court, I shall gladly take you up on supper at that time," Brandon said. "And if Heleana ever mentions some memories of her captors that seem important, please don't hesitate to contact me. His Grace will certainly desire justice, if not retribution, and we would not want some other family subjected to the same pain."

"Farewell then. I pray for the safety of the royal house."
Lady Eleanor personally escorted Brandon to the gate, with Helaena skipping alongside.

Brandon did not think that prayers would do as much good as a few more Kingsguard would swords, but he kept that opinion to himself.
"Fairwell ladies," he said, with a dip of his head towards the younger Massey. With that the White Cloak mounted his white Dragon and departed back for the Red Keep.

Rhaena was already up in the air when Vira took off. Sitting with her chest on Tyraxes long neck, arms around him, though not getting around, in a semblance of an embrace. She had taken Tyraxes up to both stretch his wings, and to stretch out his chest, not wanting it to stretch tight with the skin closing up. The wound had healed, but she was always cautious with her pride and joy.
She saw a dragon she didn't recognise in her peripheral, as did Tyraxes who let up a roar, and turned round without command to assess the threat. Rhaena put a hand on him to attempt to calm him. Though she did not recognise the dragon, as it got closer to her, she recognised the rider, as the pretty woman, Maekar bought to Daenya's name day party.

"I saw you, I am not sure you saw me." Rhaena called, kicking Tyraxes with her heel like he were younger again, but knowing he'd barely feel it. Sphe swooped round and came to rest in the same place, but rather than hover, it was clear he was circling. "You caused rather a stir among my company,"

Rhaena just nodded, not sure if she could see it or not, Tyraxes did another circle, "I thought it was Lady Vira Dragonseed?" she shouted back, though only to be heard over a gust of wind.

"You could not do much better than what he has done to himself already," Rhaena called back, though smiled slightly.
She looked to Vira for a long moment and the drove Tyraxes into a deep dive, pulling up at the last second and dropping to the ground with a large thump.

Rhaena was a little surprised after her very familiar tone of address, and then remembered the other would not know who she was.
"If he ever stopped being grumpy, he'd be more an imposter than my own heart," she said elegantly jumping off of Tyraxes and landing on the ground next to him, leaning briefly against his side, just under his neck so she was standing just to the side of the scars.
The dragon curled his tail around her protectively it swatting hard on the ground, making a lot of dirt fly up. Rhaena didn't even flinch.
"Oldtown seemed to disagree with him," she replied, meaning about how he got the wound, " I do not remember seeing you there, so far only at parties," she raised an eyebrow, it clearly challenging her to explain her absence from the battle, not knowing if she would have bonded with her dragon in time or not, but hoping it was just an issue of timing, she didn't need to add anyone else to the list of people she disliked.

"Villages burn," Rhaena said, "Your village, another village. Hopefully now we have prevented any more from burning," she said, not really affected by the revelation, it was war, stuff got burned it war. "If you are a seed, then how did both of your parents get raped and killed?" She paused for a second for an answer and waved it off, targaryen blood or pretender, she had a dragon, that was enough.
At the mention of his dragon riders name, Tyraxes curled his tail even tighter round Rhaena, and crouched, letting out a puff of flame. Rhaena rolled her eyes and ordered him in high valyrian to stop it.
"You must forgive him, he has a terrible temper. You must have said something he did not like the sound off, I can not imagine what though. I am she however," she was rather pleased the bastard had recognised Tyraxes, she often forgot how recognisable the dragons were in the lands of the crown.
In the next instant her face dropped and her tone lowered, she turned to Tyraxes and gave a command and he immediately took off to the skies, heading who knows where.
"A hunt may calm him down. Would you like to wait with me until they return?" Unlike what most people would expect from a princess, it was a genuine question, not a veiled order.

"I shall have to take your word for it," she said, never having eaten out of the capital anywhere except what she and Tyraxes had caught and eaten when they'd been roughing it. "Lead on," Rhaena said, with a soft smile, which made her look all the prettier.

Rhaena was not one for beer, but didn't correct the order, she thought it best not to say anything, people would probably be able to tell a noble from her voice, as if the hair tees and clothing would not give it away.
She took out a reasonable amount of money for the purchase and put it nearly silently on the counter. She smiled at Vira again and cocked her head to the side, "you seem to be in you element,"

"Not to bar keeps," she said looking forwards, not saying who she was used to ordering, if anyone at all. Thinking the girl was very haughty for being little better than the traitor spawn, "and I meant out here, out of the city, not ordering bar keeps."
