"You are most kind," she replied. "Baelon will be joining the fleet, and Arenya will come back to us with word from my son. When that occurs, we will make our move on the Arbor. Will this be your first battle?"

Orys nodded. "Yes, this will be Sinner's first as well, but I hope to serve the crown well in this battle and those that come after it. Hopefully my arm does not hinder my performance." He did not add that he had recently been bested by a girl of not even sixteen years.

"I am sure you will. Sinner can still burn our foes and you can carry messages if need be. You will not be wasted here, I promise."

Orys cleared his throat. "I had hoped to ride into battle on Sinner, your grace, despite my injuries. My sword arm remains intact, and I can still maintain control of Sinner with the one good arm."

"You may try, of course, but I hope you will let me know if you cannot manage and loose Sinner to fight by himself. Any of us may be called upon to sacrifice our lives for House Targaryen but I would prefer not to lose you for no good reason."

Orys responded, "Of course, your grace. I owe House Targaryen everything and would die for my king. I'm simply eager to prove myself and my loyalties to the throne. I simply feel it'd be shameful for me to run as a message boy while others risk their lives."

"There is no same in doing what must be done," she told him. "But your preferences are duly noted. If you can fight, you shall."

Orys did a sort of half bow in his seat. "Your grace, I am your humble servant. I will serve where you deem me fit to."

"Thank you. I am much obliged," she said. "I regret I do not know you well but perhaps we can remedy that soon."

Orys smiled a litte. "Your grace, I am an open book, so feel free to begin reading me at anytime. Any questions you may have about me, I will answer as best I can."

"Indeed. I know your sister, of course, but I don't even know what you have been doing with yourself since you came to manhood," she observed.

"I've been trying to keep myself busy. Until Sinner hatched I'd spent most of in the yard and among the courtiers in your grace's court. I often play at a small talk and drinking with my friends among the minor nobility and the sort. Since then, I've withdrawn a bit from court, but still try to maintain my friendships and contacts, but now a good portion of my time is spent in the Dragon Pit," he explained.

"I think she may be right, this time. We've never amassed such a force against the Faith Militant as we have now. And," Ah, fuck it, may as well jump in head first, "once it ends, with your leave, I would be very much interested in visiting Sun House again. You see, my sister the queen has suggested that we might make a match." "Oh!" Her eyes widened in surprise and she dropped a brief curtsey. "You honour me. You and the queen! I never dared dream...Oh, yes, of course you may visit me. I would be happy to receive you! May I..." She blushed. "May I give you a token to wear in the war? "Nothing would please me more, my l..." He laughed, "I do not even know your given name."

"Nothing would please me more, my l..." He laughed, "I do not even know your given name." "My name is Arwyn. I shall find you a token presently. If you like, I could give your sword to our smith and we could go drink that wine now?" She laid a delicate hand on his arm and smiled at him.

"Let us do that, Arwyn," Baelon answered, holding his arm out for her, "Lead the way."

She linked her arm through his and soon enough Baelon found himself in her solar while she poured him a cup of red wine.
"I hope you do not find Sun House disappointing," she said when the drinks had been poured. "The Red Keep must be much bigger and more glorious than my home."

"Bigger, yes. Too big. Make a wrong turn, and who knows where you'll end up. I once spent four hours trying to find a privy."

She burst out laughing. "Well, if you decide you wish to marry me and live at Sun House, you'd never need to fear getting lost. There's smaller castles, to be sure, but we're small enough that nobody could ever get lost here."
She picked up her cup.
"Shall we drink a toast to the end of the war, and to the future?"

Baelon raised his cup as well. "To the future. Can't be much worse than the past."

"True enough. All our lives have been affected by this war. I only hope things are better soon. I had forgotten how to hope, before, but now I am feeling much better."
She smiled and drank.

Baelon took a large gulp of the wine. "I am glad to hear it." He was quiet for a moment, glancing about the solar. "Tell me about your family. You have sisters, you said?"

"Yes, three. Leona is fifteen, Megga twelve and Lysa ten. I love them all dearly. I am responsible for them all now, gods help me. Leona is my confidante and best friend, but Megga and Lysa are just little girls and I have to hide the truth from them. Father wanted to send them away for their own safety, before he died, but we couldn't spare the men to escort them."
She sighed and drank some wine.

"Perhaps we can find a place at court for them. Ladies always need more handmaidens, after all."

"Ah yes. That would be most kind. Perhaps we could find them husbands too." She smiled innocently.

"Yes, of course. The younger ones can wait a few years, but it would not hurt to look into a match for Leona. Some young knight who distinguishes himself in the battle, perhaps."
