Sergio did not look at Trajan, but studied her face closely. He seemed to reach his own conclusion. "I have few duties, but many hobbies. It keeps a man occupied." He shrugged and smiled at her, "Your mother had mentioned you were quite the hero in the war. I was quite impressed with your bravery."

"My mother flatters me, My Lord. I did my duty as best I could, that is all. I only wish I had been skilled enough to keep my dragon alive."
Elsey's large, chestnut-coloured eyes grew sad for a moment, but then she brightened her tone again;
"What are your hobbies, My Lord? Apart from poetry."

Sergio laughed, "I have a quite a few hobbies. I love to dance. It is a great passion of mine that I rarely get to showcase." He replied his locked on hers, just studying her face, and trying to get a measure of her character. "And my other hobby is a tad mundane. I like to carve woodworking. It is a silly thing, but it helps focus my mind." He looked around the room then, and asked, "Any hobbies of your own?"

"I find your hobby of woodworking much more interesting than dancing, I must admit. I tried to whittle a small piece of driftwood once, but I only ended up cutting my fingers to shreds," she laughed sheepishly.
"I suppose I like reading, especially poetry and heroic adventure tales. I enjoyed flying very much, when I was able to do so. I enjoy training in the yard, though sadly I cannot have the pleasure of duels, as my weapon of choice is rather less forgiving than most. I like exploring and adventuring, though I suppose most of the adventure goes on in my mind while I am merely taking a walk in the woods."

Sergio laughed, and place his on top of hers, "Here I go bragging of my many skills, and then you shame with a list that puts mine to shame." His hand slipped away from hers, and he glanced at Trajan over his shoulder. "What is your weapon of choice?" He turned the glance at Trajan into a look around the room for her weapon.

"I certainly did not intend any shame, My Lord. Perhaps I merely have too much time on my hands," Elsey replied with a chuckle.
"I favour the flail, My Lord," she said, gesturing to where it hung on the wall, it's long chain coiled neatly, it's heavy head dangling near the floor, the gilded barbs glinting a little in the light.

Sergio chuckled, "Never has there been a more aptly named weapon." He looked back at her and made a wobbly motion with his arms as if flailing about. "Being injured is only going to give you more time I very much fear. If you ever need some one to help entertain you during you infirm period just summon me. I am your faithful servant."

"That is very kind of you to offer, My Lord. I shall bear that in mind," she smiled gently.
"Do you play cyvasse?"

Sergio nodded his head once. "I do. But I am truly awful at the game. Far too aggressive for my own good." He looked around her room again, 'Fancy a gane?"

Trajan leaned against the wall in silence, cold violet eyes lazily watching the Braavosi as the inquisitor drummed his fingers rhythmically upon the silver skull pommel that capped his bravo blade.

"I think I know a way to improve your strategy, My Lord. My board is on that end table, would you please bring it over here?"

Sergio bowed his head and rose to fetch the board. He watched Trajan as he grabbed the board talking the entire time, "How can you help my strategy? You know a trick to calm down the fires of a man's passion?"

"I am not sure I would put it that way, My Lord, but I was taught a thought exercise by Lord Darklyn some years ago that helps one to calm their aggressions in conflict."
She pulled her legs up under her blanket, crossing them, to allow the board to sit neatly between them. She pulled up the screen, and began placing her pieces.
"You can only win the game when you understand that it is a game, and that caution is as valuable as passion. Let a man play cyvasse, and tell him that every piece represents a friend. Let him think his King righteous, his army loyal, his dragon faithful. If a man is wise and pure of heart, he will not stand to lose them all for the sake of his pride."

"Darklyn he is a friend of yours? I have not had the pleasure of his company." Sergio replied, and placed out his pieces. He chuckled at the advice though, "Though if a man is willing to sacrifice his best friend to win, that is a man to fear. He will do anything for victory."

"He... yes, I suppose he is a friend. He has always been kind to me, even after my father betrayed us all."
Elsey's expression became a little sad.
"As for a man who will sacrifice his best friend for victory, I would say that victory means little if you have cast aside all that you love to achieve it."

Sergio nodded, "I agree with you, but I have met many of the other sort. They are the worse sort of men, and more dangerous then a dragon." He studied the board for a long time before deciding his pieces were correctly placed.

Elseyris' eyes briefly flickered in Trajan's direction, but quickly returned to the board.
"What we love makes us human. To sacrifice it is to sacrifice our humanity. A man who loves nothing is little more than a monster."
She glanced over her pieces carefully, then looked to Sergio;
"Are you ready, My Lord?"

Sergio had finished with his pieces and had been watching her face carefully. "I am as ready as I can be." He ran his hand through his dark hair, "I do not think I took your advice that well to heart though."

"That is alright, My Lord. We must all walk our own path, after all."
She smiled congenially, but her eyes were still sad. She lowered the screen between the two halves of the board. She had arranged her pieces from heaviest to lightest in a protective formation around her King, with her dragon and elephant flanking the heavy horse in front. It was a barrier of strength, intended to deter a head-on assault.

Sergio studied her, and thinking of her advice figured that she was going to make a solid defensive structure. He decided to attach each flank, and see how it went. He spoke the entire time he was arranging his pieces, "We do all walk our own path, but it is important to remember that even then we are never truly alone. There are those who are always willing to help a friend if they are asked."

"I suppose that is true," she conceded, studying his own pieces' arrangement, trying to discern his next move. She fidgeted absent-mindedly with her necklace as she concentrated, her fingers tracing the edges of the little chalcedony dragon charm that Visenya had given her, and the small tooth next to it.
"Though real friendship can be hard to come by. I'm sure you have met many who only walk with you in fair weather."

Sergio moved his pieces again attacking at the flanks. He doubted she would think that he would repeat the move. "Real friendships are very rare. But when you find one, it is worth more then owning a titan's weight in gold."

Having allowed him close enough, she rounded her dragon and elephant on the flanking forces on either side, pinning the enemy pieces between them and the spearmen and crossbowmen respectively.
"I shall take your word for it, My Lord," she said, slightly more quietly than before, her head tilting thoughtfully, though it was unclear whether her thoughts were on the game or elsewhere.
"It occurs to me I know little about you, My Lord, save for this conversation and our first meeting, and I have never been good at small talk. What sort of man is Lord Sergio Delinaal?"
She slightly over-pronounced his name playfully, mimicking grandeur.

Sergio nodded, "It is a wise question to ask, and luckily for you no man knows Lord Sergio Delinaal better then I." He again had placed his pieces agressively trying to counter, and disrupt her pieces on the next two moves. "He is a handsome man, but everyone knows that, and quite charming. He has many friends, and they are quite loyal to him. He has few enemies, for his enemies have a bad habit of dying young. His reputation is dark and stained with bloody words. Vicious lies of course." He bowed to her, "And know that I have laid my soul bare, I think it is customary for you to return the favor."

Elsey pulled her rabble and light horse tighter into the formation, so that the King was surrounded by a thick phalanx that sniped at Sergio's forces from their ranks, aiming to pick them off slowly from within the self-made fortress.
"Is it now?" she replied, with mock archness. "How do you know that I will be truthful, My Lord?"
