Gendry had fortunately found another child to play with. The two boys raced around the gardens, laughing.
"Yes," said Taena. "I am sure you are right. I was very young when Grandmother brought me here, but I could not imagine living in the city, not really. Besides, the Red Keep is large enough for Victory to have her own space, before she goes to the Dragonpit." She sighed. "It will have to be within the next few months, I think." She watched Gendry and his friend for a moment. "I hope we can be friends, Mistress Kesi."

"You are being lucky that you are having such a caring grandmother." Kesi said, watching the children and ignoring the dragon completely, though she did love the colour of it.
"I am hoping that too." She smiled. "Is always being good to be having new friends I am thinking, no?"

Kesi laughed. "I am not truly scary." She said, but she kept her eyes on the child that she had terrified when he saw the true her. "Can I be telling you a secret? I am truly being blonde, but I was finding it so... Boring."

Taena laughed. "Oh, I hope you don't mean that as an insult. I have never minded being blonde, truly. But then, maybe it's different here and I'm still a dragon, despite my name. I don't think anyone cares what colour my hair is."

Princess Daenya dyed hers pink, I remember." Taena looked thoughtful. "I don't think I wish to dye mine. I wouldn't want to look in the mirror and see a different person. Why blue? Why not pink or purple or green?"

"Blue was being choice of man I loved." Kesi answered in a tone that suggested it was the end of that part of the conversation. Perhaps it also explained why she had never gone back to her natural colour,

"But...it has to make you look different." Taena frowned. "i think I shall leave my hair as it is. What do you do when you're not doing magic or making potions? Surely you do other things beside walk in the gardens."

I would have gone too, if Victory were big enough to ride." She absentmindedly stroked the sleeping dragon's head. "I have no children and no talent for making herbal potions, though. I'm better with archery. Have you ever shot a longbow?"

I spend a lot of my time with Lord Reyne and his companions, because I like to go hunting with them, and I spend time with Lady Velaryon when she has the time, and Grandmother of course." Taena smiled. Her dragon stirred but didn't wake.
