"I think I vaguely recognize him, actually," Aemy said. "From my flight to Tyrosh last year, where I bought this hairnet and these earrings." She approached Rorio Mathoris, who was in conversation with Baelor, and waited for a lull to introduce herself. Rhaella waved her daughter off with a nod and began talking to somebody else. At the sight of Aemy approaching, Elseyris knew she would have to either step in now, at the risk of appearing rude, or back away, and likely lose her chance to speak to the person who had drawn her interest. It was a snap decision. "Excuse me, may I join you?" she said, with a hint of anxiety, stepping into a space next to Baelor & the Tyroshi, and casting a friendly, earnest gaze between the two of them, hoping against hope that she hadn't made a terrible mistake. The ambassador turned as the young girl approached. "And who is this? A pretty maid, to be sure. Your servant, my lady. A princess?" He saw Aemy approaching as well and bowed to both girls in turn. "My lady. A princess too?"

"I have not tasted the wine yet, no," Daenya said, wondering at the man's way of being so openly affectionate. Her other self would exploit that but who she was now was uncomfortable with it.
"But tomorrow sounds good. Please, excuse me for just one moment; I must speak with my mother." She smiled at him again and approached Rhaella.
"Mother, you look lovely tonight."

Almost startled by the warm greeting, and his arresting smile, Elseyris caught herself in a blush.
"Yes, good sir...Princess...Elseyris Targaryen."
She thrust out a hand towards him, though at entirely the wrong angle of the wrist, so it looked more like offering a handshake than a dainty set of fingers to kiss.
"I have never met a Tyroshi before. You all look so interesting!" she blurted, immediately feeling foolish for saying something so silly. She tried to mask her embarrassment with a smile, drawing herself up straighter, hoping to regain her composure.

"I hear you making sense Aegon, but I still have a cold chill run across my spine", she smiled,"at the thought of another man touching me who is not of the the Targaryen line." "Call me prejudiced, but I can't bring myself to do it", she shook her head,"He would have to stir something deep inside me to even change my view." Aegon shrugged. "Fair enough," he said. "Besides," Aegon grinned, "I feel like any man who touched you without your consent would be missing one of his more important parts shortly thereafter."

Rhaella was all smiles tonight. She greeted her youngest daughter with a brief hug.
"Thank you, my dear. It's good of you to say so. You look very pretty yourself. One of your best dresses, I think. Who was that boy you were speaking to?"
/////////
"Princess Aemy. Lady...Elseysris." He seemed to struggle a little with the unfamiliar sound of their names but his smile was friendly enough. "I am honoured. The king has many daughters, I know this. And many fine ladies of his court too." Hie smiled first at Amy and then at Elyseyris. "It is kind to say my people are interesting. It is your own people who are interesting. Very wealthy, and you all have dragons, is this true?"

Arenya laughed loudly and smiled her nephew,"You are so right, that may also be another reason your father hasn't married me off yet."
"It's a delicate situation or maybe he's waiting for me to make a choice myself."

I did have a question."

He's not very big, but he's fast. I could show him to you sometime, if you'd like, though my cousins have larger, more impressive beasts."

As heavy-handed as he is in most things, he does not seem to care much for his relations' marriages."

" Lady Elseyris," Aemy corrected with a pleasant smile. What nerve! she thought. The turncloak's little spawn has his blood in her, or else someone has been filling her head with lies. "I can imagine how confusing our titles can be, my lord. Didn't I see you at the Archon's palace in Tyrosh last summer? I had flown to your city on my dragon Skysong, to buy some jewelry. And yes. We're Targaryens, most of us have dragons." She raised her eyebrow at this question. The Tyroshi had been conquered by Valyrian dragonlords centuries ago. It was a strange question. "Perhaps you did see me. I am often at the palace. I have many fine friends at the Archon's court," Mathoris boasted. "Was it a blue dragon? I believe I saw such a creature, once." "Thank you," Elseyris replied, still bashful. "Yes, we do have dragons." At this, one of her favourite subject, she gained some more of her steel; "I have one, Nenyan. He's not very big, but he's fast. I could show him to you sometime, if you'd like, though my cousins have larger, more impressive beasts." Mathoris beamed at the girl. "i would like that very much. We see little of dragons in Tyrosh. I have seen them only a few times in my life. They are most magnificent beasts."

I don't care if I get bruised but he will not win!" She looked over to him and studied the man for a moment, wondering how he would fight. "Well... all the others were allowed to fight in the war and help with other things but I was too young... I want to help the family somehow! I am old enough now!"

Well, I'll be sure to be available when you have time to join me in the Dragon Pit!" Elseyris beamed back, partly with pride that a grown-up was taking an interest in her dragon, her pride and joy, and partly from a feeling she didn't recognize or understand, which was making her spirit feel buoyant for the first time in years. She was bubbling with questions about this charming man. "Why do you all dye your hair? Do the different colours mean anything? What are those curved swords called? Can I learn to use one?"

Arenya drank deeply from her goblet again," This war is what keeps most of his attention, he is watching and waiting." "He is weighing the importance of all things. Who and why we should marry them and if it will advance our family.""

"I don't want you hurt, but you have to learn to accept bruises if you are to be a warrior," Rhaella agreed. "Hmm...I was not allowed to do more than be a scout when I was your age. I didn't get to fight properly until after you were born. Scouting was most of what I did when I was young, and sometimes burning the enemy from afar. But...I can see why you would wish to be a part of this, Daenya, so I will speak to your father on your behalf. You could be a scout, as I once was."
////////
"The Dragonpit? I am sure I am not brave enough to go there," Mathoris said to Aemy. "Do you keep all the dragons there?" He looked over at Elseyris. "Our curved swords are called scimitars. If you like, my companion Valio may teach you to wield one, if your king agrees. I do not know why we dye our hair. We have always done it. It is the custom."

She then turned to Aemy. "Give us a moment, please."

Aemy did not like the idea of the traitor's daughter learning to wield a scimitar and befriending this envoy. "Surely my dear cousin is too young for such weapons," she said to Mathoris with a smile. "Though perhaps with the King's permission, it would be acceptable. I will leave you to Ser Baelor and my lady cousin now, Lord Mathoris, and will see you at the feasting later. It was a pleasure to meet you." So saying, Aemy nodded and smiled at the three of them, and returned to the Queen's side. "I have to talk to you, Mother," she said, glancing at Daenya. "Do you have a minute?" Daenya frowned. "I don't want to be a scout, that's no help at all! Aemy was only fourteen when she was allowed to fight! You know I am ready to fight, I could even best Aemy and her morningstar!" She then turned to Aemy. "Give us a moment, please." Rhaella was on the brink of speaking to her youngest daughter when Aemy appeared. She smiled at them both. "One moment, Aemy. This won't take long. Daenya, sweetling, you need to get used to war before you fight with a weapon. Get used to flying overhead and burning the enemy, as I did. But I will speak to your father, as I promised."

"And I feel half a fool for carrying a message between my own siblings."

"I will be fine," Daenya said, turning to Aemy with a frown. "I am going to find something to drink."
She turned and walked off to find a glass of wine.

Visenya entered the hall, casting her dark violet eyes over the assembled guests and their finery. The Tyroshi were easy to pick out with their gaudily colored hair and great curved swords...scimitars, she thought. She took a goblet of wine (whoch was quite a good vintage, but she always swore by Dornish red, when she could get it) and sipped at it slowly, affecting an air of worldliness and disinterest. There was her sister and her uncle, chatting animatedly with a foreigner. There was the queen, and her daughters the brat and the whale. And there was her...aunt? and her other cousin, the crown prince. Her palms itched suddenly, but she maintained her position just outside the great press of people, nursing her drink silently.

"I've noticed," Rhaella sighed. "Of course I have, Aemy. But you know as well as I do that the girls have had their dragons for a while now, and they are never let out to fly without an escort. What exactly would you have us do? If we find them husbands we risk allowing Aenar's bloodline to present a further challenge to your father's throne. Or your brother's, one day. You or one of your sisters will be queen some day. I presume you do not wish to have to fight your cousins?"
She sipped her wine.
"Aemy, your grandmother would have your father put Visenya and Elseyris to death. But he is already a kinslayer, because of Aenar. It would be far worse to execute two young girls. It is better to keep them here as our wards."

Maelys chuckled an patted his baseborn brother on the shoulder. "I'll do... I'll do..." He smiled tiredly and ,after a quick bow, left the room to get son lighter clothing.

Visenya thought she.heard her name mentioned, though she could not be certain in the crowd. She scowled briefly, before wiping her features clean of the nasty look. Spreading lies, no doubt, about her poor departed father, whose only crime was loving the bottle overmuch. Traitor, they named him, when it was they who were descended from traitors. She turned to the nearest man and at once began to chat with him in earnest. "Is this not a marvellous party? I am sure the ambassador is most honored."

"I'm not suggesting you kill them," Aemy said, shocked that her mother would think she would suggest such a thing. "I'm suggesting you marry them off to little lords in the crownlands. Let Aenar's bloodline perpetuate through female descent, what of it? No grandson of his will bear the Targaryen name, and Visenya and Elseyris won't get up to any mischief with such minor noblemen for husbands. Look at it this way, if we don't get them married off, they'll just choose their own husbands, which will be even more dangerous. That Visenya, that wench, I am certain she has had her eye on Aegon for years. And if they don't marry, they'll have bastards, and bastards can be an even greater threat. Let one of them marry a Rosby and the other marry a Stokeworth. Can you imagine the heir to Rosby claiming the Iron Throne? Which lords would flock to a Rosby's banners?" "Fools might, or ambitions men with a grudge against your father. Truth be told, I would rather refuse to let the girls breed at all. If we followed the ways of the Andals I'd send them to a sept to take their vows. Alas, that option is denied us. I dare not let the Faith Militant get their hands on the girls. The Targaryen name is all very well, but blood counts. Your cousin Daenerye does not have our name, but she has our blood and she has a dragon too. And the same for the bastards. The girls are a threat so long as they have any children at all."
