After flying back up from the Gates of the Moon, Alysanne quickly made her way to her father's chambers.
"Father, are you here?" She called out.

Ser Edmyn was present, and, fortunately, he was alone. Lady Wylla was presumably in her own quarters, at least for the moment. Edmyn looked more relaxed out of his wife's presence. He smiled at his daughter.
"My dear. How was your meeting with Ser Maeron? Is all well?"

"I have not spoken with him yet, father, though I did see Taena and Lady Myranda at the Gates of the Moon," Alysanne said. "Taena says that she would be willing to act as my escort to King's Landing, a chaperone of sorts."
Alys smiled. "I know you are worried for me, father, but I will be alright! Taena is clever and she can look after me in the capital. There are important things for you to do here in the Vale."

"Yes. That is very true." But he said it reluctantly. "Be careful, child. I have always liked Taena but she has become friendly with your aunt Myranda of late, and I am not particularly fond of that woman. And she is nothing compared to those in the city."

Alysanne gave her father a concerned look. "What is it that you do not like about Lady Myranda? She seems like a perfectly nice woman to me. But I will be careful in King's Landing, don't worry father."

"Of course." Though he seemed less than happy. "Lady Myranda is a good woman but she has her son to think of. She may be hoping her son will be lord of the Eyrie, one day."

"That is no way to speak of your sister's husband, my dear," Lady Wylla said scoldingly, appearing in the doorway. Since her pregnancy, she had an uncanny knack for appearing whenever Alysanne and Edmyn were alone together. "Your nephew is a good lad, but when you have a son of your own you need not worry over the Vale's succession," she added sweetly, approaching him and giving Alysanne a smile that was so fake it almost looked painful.

Even Edmyn saw through that smile, and had to grit his teeth for a moment.
"I am not in the least worried," he said. "But you are mistaken, my dear. Myranda is my brother Artys' wife, and helps him look after the Gates of the Moon when we are in the Eyrie. But no matter. Alysanne has returned from her errand. Please do not worry yourself. I shall ensure she has everything she needs for her journey to Kings Landing."

"Of course you are correct, my love," Wylla said with a light laugh. "Your sister is married to the Lord of Heart's Home, I must have been confused. I have heard that her grace the Queen is holding a festival to honor those queer Valyrian gods that they worship in the capital. That does not seem very interesting, but I should have liked to attend the tournament," she added, in the wistful tone of a long-suffering victim.

"I will enjoy the tourney on both our behalves, lady Wylla," Alysanne said with a very well placed smile. "Though I cannot say I am too fond of these Valyrian gods... I suppose they will make a good show of it however."

"There will be other tournaments," Edmyn assured his wife. To Alysanne, he said "I care nothing for the Valyrian gods, either, but the realm was ripped apart through a war against a powerful sect of our own Faith. That cannot be allowed to happen again. I fear we are stuck with the Valyrian gods, until such time as the throne belongs to a godly man. Or woman, even. I am not such a stickler that I require only men in seats of power. In the meantime, we must simply respect the Queen's preference."

Wylla pouted, and when Edmyn mentioned women ruling over men, here eyes narrowed dangerously, though only Alysanne could see her expression.

"I suppose that is true..." Alysanne said. "I shall not say anything of my thoughts on the Valyrian Gods when I am in King's Landing, so you need not worry about that. Now, I shall need to quickly pack somethings and make my way to the Gates of the Moon. I shall be resting there for a day or two before we go to King's Landing."
She turned to Wylla and smiled. "It seems my father will be present at the birth of your child after all."

Wylla's own smile was acidic as she looked back at her step-daughter. "The birth of my son," she corrected. "I am sure it will be so. And it is only fitting that my lord husband be present in the Eyrie to hold his heir once he is born."

"So it seems," Edmyn agreed, putting a comforting arm around Wylla's waist. "Write to me, Alysanne, let me know you are safe. I would rather go with you, truly, but Taena can fly with you and I cannot."

"I wish you all the best with your birth," Alysanne said, smiling warmly at Wylla, before turning to her father. "I shall write, father, don't you worry. I will send a raven as soon as I arrive." She moved in to hug her father.

He hugged her back. "Good. I will send servants to make up your household. Guards too. I must keep you safe. Taena alone will not serve as protection nor would your rank permit it. You must have a full household in the city," he insisted.

"As you say, father," Alysanne replied with a final smile, before heading off to pack her things.
