Personality: Tough, but generally good-natured. Not adept as a courtier, but polite. Solemn, but can be optimistic at times. Compassionate, but slow to trust. Some uncharitably refer to her as 'mannish' behind her back, because she is more comfortable in the company of knights and squires than of ladies.
Background: Aelys was named by her father, to honour his beloved niece, Elseyris Targaryen, whose death had left him heartbroken. She was raised at Oldtown, provided plenty of education, but little affection. After her father's death, her older brother, Valarr, returned to Oldtown to see to the affairs of his inheritance, and they met for the first time. Him being devoted to his family and her having very little warmth and friendship in her life led them to form a bond, and when Valarr decided to go to King's Landing to petition for the right to seek a dragon, Aelsy went with him to do the same.
She does not care much about the conflicts of the past, so does not particularly support anyone.
