From the back of Corion, Maelys could already see the massive towers of Harrenhal. Hopefully they would manage to besiege it without any kind of resistance from Harroway's men.
Turning back the dragon, he saw the extensive column of riverlanders marching towards the castle, with a small push of Corion's chain the beast tarted to descend. The Lord of Oldtown spotted Ser Ryman's banner and landed by his side.
"We are almost reaching our destination, Ser Tully. Tell your men to be ready, I will trust your uncle with the troops organization around the Castle." He commanded.
"Avoid any kind of engagement, we want to spare men. If it's not possible, I'll make a distraction."

OOC - can you provide a more detailed description of your intentions regarding siege towers, etc, including the stuff from your PM. That will make the rolling easier. Plus Zack and I need to discuss how sieges will work.

Ser Ethan Smallwood had been speaking to Ser Ryman when Maelys arrived. "My lord, we have not the men to encircle Harrenhal," he said. "Losses in recent years have reduced our numbers, and while Lord Tully assembled two thousand from his southern vassals. Respectfully, my lord, we would need five times as many to truly invest a castle so large as Harrenhal," he said.
"If we make camp a mile from the walls Lord Harroway will be obliged to send someone to treat with us. If he does not, we shall burn his lands and carry off the wealth and livestock of his people to feed and pay our own men, as we have always done when we are at war and have not the men for a proper siege," he continued. "Though this may be avoided, if you speak to Lord Harroway, my lord, and convince him of his folly in opposing us."

Rookie's mistakes, Maelys took a deep breath, as the hour drew nearer his confidence was withdrawing, leaving him insecure about his earlier plans.
"Yes... Ser Ethan is right, I miscounted our numbers. As he said, we shall divide our men, and settle by each Gate. There shall be patrols monitoring the remaining Wall extensions, including by the lake, that will mean boats, buy'em or steal'em."
"There shall be one Ram and two scorpions for each gate." He cleaned his throat. "The trabuchets shall be on the gate closest to the Wailing Tower, there's where their storerooms theoretically are, we'll focus our fire on it. Four ladders for each side, I'm hoping not to use them though, so the production can be focused on the other ones."
"Ser Ryman, you and I will stay in the camp by the Main Gate. While your uncle and Ser Ethan will command the east side."
(Is that better?)

Ser Ethan nodded. "It shall be as you say, my lord. What are your instructions, should a delegation from the castle approach our division? Do you have terms you wish me to offer them, or should we send a rider for you, that you might negotiate yourself?" he asked.

"Send word me a rider with the message, I'll fly back here as fast as I manage..." Maelys said without thinking, Ser Ethan might have been more experienced, but he had the responsibility all on his back, if something went wrong it'd be his fault.

"As you say, my lord," Ser Ethan replied, with a respectful bow. He began to give the necessary orders for the army to divide, and for each division to take up a position from which it could control any through one of Harrenhal's gates, without being in range of crossbowmen on the walls. However once the armies were both properly positioned a rider came to Maelys' camp bearing a message from Ser Ethan.
He was informing the prince that they did not have the capacity to stop the lake-boats from entering and leaving Harrenhal's water gate, so with supplies being shipped in by river, the castle could potentially keep itself supplied indefinitely against a siege, and he was requesting any orders from Prince Maelys regarding this information.

"Shit..." Maelys threw the piece of parchment into the brazier.
He wrote back a letter telling that he'd speak to Lord Harroway before cementing a real solution for the problem.
Thus, accompanied by Ser Ryam and five other officers, Maelys rode his horse to the Main Gate holding a white flag, indicting his desire to parlay.
"Let the Lord of Harrenhal come forth!" He cried, loud enough to compensate te safety distance from their crossbows.

Ser Ryman whispered "My lord, they say Harrenhal cannot be taken by an army. Won't you have to burn them out?"

"I was hoping not to do this, keep everything as diplomatic as possible, but I'm starting to think otherwise." Maelys had always been hot headed, lately he had been trying to keep it cool... of course, it did not last long.
"But if they refuse to even bother to come take a look at us, I swear by every fucking god I'll burn everyone inside that fucking blackened ruin."

Ryman looked grimly ahead. "Lord Harroway has the advantage of a highly defensible keep, my lord. It's to be hoped we can offer terms he will accept. But I know that might not be possible."

Maelys snorted.
"I'll give them a warning, let's see if they will still refuse to parlay..." The Lord of Oldtowb spurred his horse to turn. "You stay here and watch, Ser Ryman!"
Returning to camp, he went straight to Corion's "pen", checked the beast's saddle and chains and mounted him. "Let's show'em, my old friend."

They flew towards the massive castle high enough not to be reached by any enemy crossbow, he flew around for some time, then landed back beside Tully.
"Master Corion is not impressive as The Black Dread, but atleast now they know we've got one." He smiled. "Something happened in the mean time?"

"No, my lord," Ryman answered. "Give it time yet. Someone will come, even if they just want to tell us to bugger off, begging your lordship's pardon. They may be preparing to come out even now."

"Yes yes... We wait." Maelys nodded, during his flight he had had a small daydream where he tried to attack the castle and was pincushioned by scoprions... Pfff Silly boy, he'd never be stupid enough to do that kind of shit.

"Yes...?" Maelys said raising and eyebrow as Vira was brought into his pavilion by his guards.
"Lady Vira, What and honor." He rose from his seat to greet her. "What bring you to my humble siege?"

A rider from the imposing fortress did indeed tell Maelys to "bugger off", though in a far more formal manner. Lord Harroway clearly had no desire to treat with those besieging his gates, and Harrenhal likely had enough stores to hold out for over a year.

"Well... Let them hold it for a year then. I'm here and I've got nothing else to do." He shrugged.
"But do tell me, my dear niece. What are the means of your glorious visit?"

Maelys sat and thought for a while on Vira's suggestion.
"I would my dear... But I don't think so. I've never been one to take risks. I'll wait, bombard them a bit and see if the come out again."

"Of course, my dear... Marq, get over here!" Maelys called 'his' squire and the boy came running over.
"Tell someone to get that banner down and to put my own it it's place." He pointed to the rolled orange banner in the corner of the tent.
"And for the map... I have one right here!" The Lord of Oldtown removed the wooden pieced from above the one he had set upon his desk. "It's not mine actually... But Ryman won't mind."

Maelys sat bored at his desk, playing with one of his crossbow bolts. Sieges were indeed a dull work, this one particularly.

A rider came to him with a message, Maelys read it starting to feel anxious. Anything would be better than that he'll that was waiting on a siege.
"MARQ!" He roared right after reading the last line, already rising and starting to quickly pack his stuff. "Bring me Ser Ryman!"

Ser Ryman came soon enough. He bowed to Maelys. "My lord. How can i be of service? Is there news from Harrenhal? Do they wish to make terms?"

"The exact opposite..." Maelys sighed but did not stop to assemble his belongings. "Something's wrong in the capital, the King is missing, I can't leave the Queen pregnant and alone."
He stopped and stared Ryman for a while, thinking.
"Cancel the siege..." It was a though decision, but without him there they wouldn't stand a chance. Actually, even his presence meant nothing, the siege was bound to be a failure fr the beginning. "I need you to lead part of your men to the Crownlands, there may be need of them. Can I trust you on that, Ser Tully?"
"Oh, and Marq... Send word to Lord Harroway. If am not dead til the next moon, maybe we could have some tea and lemon cakes."

"of course," Ryman agreed. "I shall give my uncle command of the rest of our troops, and we may send a rider to him if need be. Perhaps my lord, you might fly ahead and guard the queen? My men will head towards the capital at a march."
The boy Marq nodded, though he was very pale.

The Smallwood knight who'd been commanding the other portion of the host was drawn by the flurry of activity, and arrived in time to hear Ser Ryman's words.
"We'll have to loop north 'round Harrenhal my lord, take a wide route so Harroway doesn't take us in the rear once we've turned out backs. Might take a few extra days, but we'll get the lads there double-time once we reach the Kingsroad."
