Bertram was standing next to Vraxor in the Dragon Pits. He had just finished getting supplies for the trip to the Bloody Gate, some rations, his spears, bow and quiver, and a good length of rope. Hopefully Aerion would arrive soon, this job should not be waited upon.
"Get ready to let off some steam, old friend," Bertram said to Vraxor, "This will be good for the both of us."

Aerion Strongdragon entered, a large supply bag slung over a shoulder and his war hammer in hand. "The fires roared fiercely tonight." He said in greeting. "The Lord of Light is with us." Without waiting for a response he made his way to Servys' Cell. Not long after he re-emerged, chained to the back of Servys and prepared for their journey. "Let us be off then."

Bertram Targaryen and Aerion Strongragon urged their dragons out of the Dragon Pits and turned northward Towards the Bloody Gate. Maekar had given them full discretion discretion of the situation and Bertram did not know much about Aerion.

They meet no resistance on the way so, after a couple of days flight, the great mountains of the Vale loom in the distance. The Bloody Gate, of course, is not too far ahead now.

He urged Vraxor to rise higher wanting to get an idea of any threats that could be present. This mission should be accomplished quickly but that was no excuse for sloppy reconnaissance. Bertram wanted to know how many people were present before committing to the fiery destruction. (Expert: Dragon Handling)

The Bloody Gate is a series of battlements placed across the mountain road that leads into the Vale of Arryn from the Mountains of the Moon. There are two long parapets built into the stone of the mountains. The pass, narrow where it meets the gate, is watched over by twin watchtowers, which are joined by a covered bridge of grey stone that arches above the road. Ser Eddard Corbray, the heir to Heart's Home, is the current Knight of the Gate.
Bertram meets with no difficulties as he flies above the Bloody Gate. He cannot determine the number of men garrisoned inside the two towers that flank the covered ramparts over the gate spanning the pass. However, he estimates that there are perhaps one hundred men guarding the ramparts and some large tents making up an encampment beyond.

Shouting at Aerion over the sound of massive wings, Bertram suggests that he takes Servys higher to make sure that there are no enemy dragons waiting for them in hiding. Bertram points towards the tents beyond the Bloody Gate, "I will see what banners are gathering, then we will raze those collected." Bertram wished to see which coat of arms were prevalent, with either the largest number of banners or the largest size in tents.
Making sure to stay out of bowshot from the battlements, Bertram leads Vraxor towards the encampment.

Aerion raised a mailed fist in agreement and drove Servys higher, his eyes searching for any signs of recent dragon activity.

Bertram handles Vraxor well, flying up high out of range of bowshot. Below he sees a substantial army flying familiar banners, such as the Arryn falcon, the Corbray raven, the Redfort castle and many others. There are of course too many to count but he guesses that there are at least five thousand men in the pass, and likely more in the towers that flank the gate.
Aerion notes some scorched trees that may indicate dragon activity in the area but he cannot be sure, as the signs are a little unclear.

Making sure to keep an eye on Aerion as he flies above, Bertram signals to Aerion that he is ready to attack, watching him prepare to do the same and always alert for any opposition. Bertram brings Vraxor lower and signals the beast to shoot his flame, focusing on the the collected tents and steering clear of any visible archers. (Expert: Dragon Handling)

Not daring to assault the Bloody Gate alone and content with his own scouting, Aerion swings Servys low to join Vraxor in raining fire upon the gathered forces.

The two dragonriders set several of the tents aflame on their first pass, and many men too. Some are burned alive almost instantly, others drop and roll on the ground in an attempt to extinguish the flames and others simply run screaming. But the damage is a good effort for the first attempt and the camp begins to panic as men look up and point. Archers hurry to pick up their bows.

Aerion wheels Servys around for another strafing run, this time spurring Servys to focus his fire on tents that flew the sky blue banner of House Arryn.

Aerion's next pass causes a substantial amount of damage to the the army. Men scream and run as both they and their tents are set alight. But though the damage is significant , Aerion knows Servys can do better. He urges the dragon to attack the gate itself.
Under Aerion's Servys then flies back and directs his flame at the gate. The men cry out in horror. The gate burns but the wood is thick. Aerion realises it will take some effort to burn a hole in the gate. He can keep trying, though, as he hears men loose arrows, he realises that there will be a great risk to the dragon and himself if he stays. So he can continue attacking the gate in the hope of making it vulnerable to physical attack, or press on elsewhere.

Aerion was sure the Lord of Light meant for him not to die this day, but he would not tempt fate. He pulled Servys away as a swarm of arrows began to take flight against them. They circled around and unleashed one last burst of flame on the scattering army as they passed overhead. But this time Aerion did not return for another barrage. He drove Servys onwards, to the Eyrie.

He reaches the Eyrie without any trouble, the pale towers rising up ahead of him, though as he flies past the waycastles he realises that word may be following him up the mountain, albeit too slow for him to worry about on dragonback. But there is no massed army for him to burn, not here, and Servys is no Balerion or Vhagar, to melt stone with his flame. The Eyrie seems lonely and proud sitting atop the mountain.

Aerion pushed Servys towards the Eyrie's infamous moon door. In the case of a dragon attack, it was a less than practical architectural addition to the castle. "Dracarys!" He roared, commanding Servys to unleash her flames upon the ancient wierwood door.

Servys manages to set the Moon Door alight but her fmale doesn't seem to be quite hot enough to set the entire thing alight. Much more work will be required if Aerion hopes to destroy the door itself. The fire burns for a while, however, and Aerion sees that it will leave a scorch mark, though the door is thick and heavy, build to withstand the great winds that assail the mountain.

He pushed Servys to continue weakening the thick door with flame before assaulting it with tooth and claw.

He manages to flame the door again, but he quickly realises that it would take a much older dragon, or a number of dragons, to burn through the door with any measure of success. Attacking it with tooth and claw is even less successful, since the door is so old and so heavy. Aerion thinks he hears some cries from behind the door, but the sound is muffled and he cannot be sure, not with the noise of the dragon's attack.
And then Aerion realises his mistake. He has forgotten to account for the guards on the battlements. He feels a sharp pain in his arm as a crossbow bolt embeds itself in his arm, the flight undetected during the noise of the dragon's attack. In swift succession, Aerion is peppered by three more bolts, while others rain around him. He feels agonising pain in his thigh, causing him to stumble on the dragon's back, one in his shoulder, and the last in his belly. As the pain overtakes him, he hears Serys roar in pain and sees that a bolt is embedded in her eyes, and other in the side of her scaly neck, and a third in her back. Servys roars and thrashes. Despite the chains that fasten him to the saddle, Aerion is thrown wildly about in excruciating agony. But not for long. Dizziness strikes and then everything goes black.
A little later, Servys, blinded in one eye, can be seen flying away from the Eyrie with the broken body of her rider dangling from the fastening chains. A cheer goes up from the Eyrie.
(Aerion is killed)
