Maelys sighed, he was tired of that discussion, Josua was too righteous to accept taking orders from anyone other than the King.
"You're a good man, Ser Josua. You remind me of myself as Lord Commander." He smiled. "I still regret it, you know? Giving up my chain. I loved this office more than anything... And it destroyed my life. My wife, my sanity and my health all left me at once."
"I won't lie to you... Every second I sat here, my heart urged me to stab you in the throat and take back my chain." The Lord of Oldtown chuckled and stretched his back against the chair. "This office is a blessing, we are given the chance to protect the realm and it's people, but it's also a curse; a curse like none other."

"I don't see it as a curse. But I have no wife and no children, nor do I want any of that at present. I'm happy as I am. My cousin will inherit our lands one day, not me." He smiled slightly. "I am a city man, my lord. I like my duties well enough. I am loyal to the king, my lord."

"You're lucky then ." Maelys twirled his mustache and raised from his seat.
"I'll have to leave... I must speak with my sister before dawn." He wouldn't actually, he just wanted make the knight uncomfortable. "Take care, Jos, make sure to come for me in times of need, I'll be glad to help."

Ser Josua nodded. "Warrior protect you, my lord. My concern is for the realm, as it always has been."
