Lord Baratheon and Redwyne arrive, one carefree as a bird and the other dour as a northerner.

"My lords," Maekar replied, indicating that they should all sit. "I trust we here are all on the same page, and I would haven your counsel moving forward."
"The Grand Maester received a letter from the Princess of Dorne; for some reason my sister Daenya entered Dorne in violation of our treaty, and is now a captive in Sunspear. The Dornish want twenty-thousand dragons for her release and I shall have to give them something, though it will be decidedly less than that," the King paused for a moment looking at each man in turn.
"I also mean to name Lord Braem Stark the Hand of the King," Maekar said, before looking to Lord Baratheon. "Additionally, Lord Borros is named the Master of Whisperers. The rest of you will be publicly reconfirmed in your posts, though that is a mere formality, and I will choose a Master of Laws after my coronation."

"Why not now?" Grand Maester Benedict asked. "I am sure you could offer the post to another of your allies, Your Grace."
"We also need to appoint new knights to the Kingsguard," Ser Jon Gaunt added. "I am one of seven, at present. That is just not good enough. How fares Ser Moryn at present?"

Lord Baratheon gave a grateful bow of his head at the announcement, self-satisfied smile on his face.
Lord Redwyne spoke up to agree with the Grand Maester. "In uncertain times such as this, law and order is of paramount importance, Your Grace. A Master of Laws worth his salt is necessary now more than ever."

"I certainly agree, which is why I would prefer not to appoint someone of inadequate ability in the interim while a true candidate is found. If you've any suggestions, my lord, I would hear them now," the King replied, looking to Redwyne.
"I mean to dispatch you to the Dornish border, my lord," he said, turning his attention to Lord Baratheon, "when the time comes to pay Daenya's ransom. I'll give you an honor guard of my men; enough of them to ensure that the ransom is not such a tempting target as to invite an attack along the way. I also intend to send my Queen with you; her grandfather is the Lord of Yronwood and her dragon will guard against any Dornish treachery."

Redwyne remained silent, the ex Faith Militant unable to think of a man with the fortitude for the task.
"I shall give the Dornish your warmest regards, Your Grace." Baratheon replied.

"I would sooner give them fire, and blood, but this is an insult I must suffer for the time being," the King replied, an expression of distaste on his face. The honor of House Targaryen was more important than revenge, and it would not do to let a Princess of the blood languish in a Dornish prison. He turned to Lord Reyne before speaking next, asking several questions about the state of the Treasury, specifically about debts the Iron Throne owed; to whom, and how much.

The treasury was not in a good shape, though Lord Reyne said some of the debt had begun to be paid off, and their straits were not quite so dire as they had been six or seven months ago. Yet millions were still owed to the Iron Bank due to the war, particularly given that the crown had taken out huge loans to pay for the services of Tyroshi mercenaries during the war. There were one or two other lesser creditors, such as the Lannisters and the Reynes, themselves among the wealthiest houses in the realm, but the majority of money was owed to the Iron Bank itself.

Maekar nodded. "Is there not a representative of the Iron Bank currently in the city? After this meeting is concluded, my lord," he said, still looking at Reyne, "arrange a meeting with him so that I may discuss the particulars of the crown's debt."

"Yes, he is in the city. I will arrange the meeting for you, Your Grace. Will tomorrow suit, if the Braavosi consents? Envoys must be treated with the utmost delicacy and it may not be possible to rush the envoy into a meeting."

"That will be suitable, my lord," the King replied with a frown.
