Before challenging the Queen, Maekar had sent a squad of 20 Goldcloaks to the Vaults to make sure they were secured. After defeating the Queen in combat, he walked there swiftly himself, seeking to take Blackfyre and the crown of Aegon the Conqueror before presenting himself to the court.
