Rhaegar saw their hesitation. "Had she reached her dragon.." he said, pointing to where Vanderas lay dead. "...she would have killed us all without compunction." He pointed to where the two Dornish guards lay dead or dying. "That would be your fate too." Rhaegar pointed at Daenya. "Arrest her. If she resists, you have my authority to kill her. Elyas attempted to speak, his voice raw. "You have no authority. She is Sarella's prisoner. You are to take her alive." he informed the Prince as loudly as he was able to.

"i have every authority!" snapped Rhaegar his patience wearing thin at Ser Elyas who had done little to help them subdue Vanderas as far as he could see.
"She doesn't look like a prisoner to me. Take her. Alive if possible. Dead if you must."

Ser Elyas struggled to pull himself to his feet, fighting to a kneeling position but failing to rise. "As Sarella's representative, I am making it quite clear that you have no right to kill her prisoners, dragon." The knight replied, a dangerous edge to his voice.

"I suspect that the Princess of Dorne is not so friendly with you as to not mind your use of her given name, despite what you might think bastard," Lord Osmund Mertyne said to Elyas, trudging up the the hill with bandages half covering his face just as the bastard spoke. "We all saw you wait in the rear, while we fought the beast, and I am sure Princess Sarella would be interested to hear how the man who claims to represent her watched as others died without lifting his blade. We are Prince Rhaegar's men, now, the Dragonslayer's men, and she is his prisoner."
He gestured several more of his men forward to Daenya. "The Princess will likely whip those men she sent after this tiny dragon; she somehow convinced them to let her follow our trail to the beast, instead of taking her back to Sunspear as they were ordered," he said, looking in Rhaegar's direction, and then turned to look at the Targaryen princess. "Will you lower that blade, my lady, or will my men have to take it from you?" he asked her, his tone growing more courteous. "You have my word as a Knight that you'll be treated with the respect due your rank on the return trip to Sunspear."

Rhaegar nodded in affirmation of Lord Osmund's words while ignoring Elyas.
"Surrender your sword Daenya." he repeated. "Your dragon is dead and there's nothing you can do to bring him back. Don't throw away your own life in a futile attempt to avenge him."
He shrugged his shoulders. "I would prefer you alive, but in the end that is your choice."

"You have my word as a Knight that you'll be treated with the respect due your rank on the return trip to Sunspear." Ser Elyas struggled, trying again to raise himself to his feet so he was not forced to speak from a position of weakness on the ground. Teeth gritted, he favoured Lord Osmund with a dark look, clearly furious that the man would be so condescending to a knight who had just moments before fought alongside him in battle. "Need I remind you, Lord Mertyne, that you owe your fealty to the Princess, who is your liege Lord?" Elyas said through gritted teeth, deliberately dropping the more formal "my lord". "This man," he nodded at Rhaegar, "is in Dorne solely out of her good grace." The knight had been keeping his sentences shorter before, as his mouth burned with dryness, but now fury spurred him on. "So when you say you are his man, and when you debase the Princess' designated representatives who fought alongside you when they were instructed only to observe, one of whom going so far as to give his life in service of your cause, you do yourself a great disservice in acting against her grace. If this fight had been about the defense of Dorne then I would be the first to condemn a bystander, but I think it is quite obvious that that was not the case, my lord. This was about the personal ambitions of a man whose kind slaughtered or kin and razed our land. I fought the dragons three years ago, and I would do so again in a heartbeat. But to fight alongside such a man, for nothing other than his personal advancement? You will have to forgive me for having the interests of Dorne in my heart and hesitating to do so." (OOC: Apprentice athletics. Attempt to stand despite injuries.)
