As the party arrives, it soon becomes apparent that two of their party are missing, Orys Storm and his dragon Sinner. Laena, in typical fashion, blames his absence on the tardiness of youth but there is a genuine anxiety in her expression which comes from the fact that she has mislaid her protegee's brother. Furthermore, it means that if Orys does not return, they will have one less dragon.

"Edmund, double back, see if Orys can be spotted." Brandon barked.
He wanted to curse whatever fickle gods had snatched poor Orys away from them for no reason which he could fathom. Some times it seemed as though matters were entirely out of their control. As if they were just the cyvasse pieces of immortal giants who some where diced and bickered over their fates in order to raise or subtract some minor advantage in a joyless game.

Edmund was obedient and dutiful. He took Aelyrion and began to search the area for the missing dragon and rider.
After an hour or so of searching, Edmund came back with a body strapped to his saddle. The party recognised the body of Orys Storm, battered and broken, and very dead.
"I found him," he said. "I couldn't find his dragon though."

Brandon cursed but it was as he has expected. "We will set a pyre for him in the evening. In the mean time we've things to prepare."
Brandon snatched a man-at-arms by the collar. "Fetch me the head of the guard, tell him to raise security and lower all gates immediately. No one enters without permission from his grace or I. Then have him report here to me with a list of any new servants brought into service since his grace left for the free cities."

Once they've landed Yana settles Spinel and carrying her travel bag and Spinel's riding pad she goes to see if Princess Rheana needs help with carrying her things to her room, as she walks she wrinkles her nose a bit as she conciders the possibility of a bath and some clean clothes that do not smell of damp leather and dragon before the days out.

Having landed and settled Caraxes, Elseyris strode over to Aegon to seek further instructions. She greeted him with a soldierly nod and professional tone;
"What would you have of me, Your Grace?"

Servants prepare the baths for them while the captain of the household guard is informed of their arrival and complies with Brandon's instructions Once all the gates have been lowered, and the security increased, the captain of the guard arrives to speak with the Lord Commander. He is a sallow-faced man of around forty, though illiterate. Since writing is beyond his capabilities, he instead provides Brandon with a verbal list that includes the names of three servants and half a dozen guardsmen.

Brandon nodded, and had the list written down. "Make sure those guards and servants are paired with others whose service to his grace is as long and distinguished as possible. None of the new guards are to be placed on his grace's apartments or on gates or near the dragons, until you've affirmed to me that you're certain of their loyalty. Have all the men-at-arms who are not on duty assemble in the courtyard for a review. As likely as not the time will soon come for them to earn their pay."

The captain of the guard nodded. "Ser, is it true that King Maegor is dead, and that Prince Aegon is the king now? When will the new king be crowned?"

"It is true," Aegon said himself, approaching his guard captain. "Does that mean you have had no word from King's Landing?"

We had a letter but I hoped it might not be true." The knight knelt. "Your Grace. Dragonstone is yours."
