Elyas is lying on his bed, sharpening his blade with a whetstone. He looks up, and seeing the Prince, placed the blade and whetstone down on his quilting and stood, lowering his head slightly. "Your grace?"

"Ser Elyas, I have just received troubling news," Trystane said. "Lord Yronwood and his men were killed during the expedition ransom Princess Daenya back to the enemy. There is no word of my brother Quentyn, who accompanied the party, nor of Rhaegar Targaryen, or even Princess Daenya herself. They too may have been killed, or imprisoned. My agents are attempting to learn more, for my brother's sake in particular, but it means there is no longer any reason to delay our own mission. Rhaegar shall not be participating. I want you to meet me in the yard at dawn tomorrow. See that your horse, weapons and armour are ready."

"This is indeed troubling...but I must ask, your grace, is it wise to continue without Rhaegar? He was our best source of knowledge. Without him our task will become far more perilous."

"I had thought the attempt worth making even before Rhaegar arrived," Trystane replied. "I think it is worth attempting. He may be dead, my friend, and we cannot wait forever. I will not think less of you if you would rather not go."

I will not think less of you if you would rather not go." "I have no qualms with the danger." Elyas replied. "I was merely noting that Rhaegar's intransigence has made our task much more difficult than it might have been. If you do not mind my asking, your grace, have any steps been taken by Princess Sarella to determine what has happened to Prince Quentyn?"

"She is sending a patrol to explore the area, and, hopefully, find some survivors. But we only found out today, when Lord Wyl's messenger arrived. It will take time to learn the truth. But, if Quentyn was taken prisoner, we can be sure there will be a ransom demand," Trystane replied. "There is little else we can do, truly."

Shall I inform Ser Olyvar and Lady Catelyn of your intent to part on the morrow?"

"No need, I have already done so." Trystane looked at him with a sad expression. "I wish I need not ask this of you, but there is nobody else who can do this for me."

"There is no need for such feelings, your grace." Ser Elyas replied. "It is time that I repay the trust placed in me by you and your kin."

Trystane nodded. "Yet I cannot like sending a man into such terrible danger. Warrior watch over you, my friend."

Ser Elyas nodded and bowed. Once Trystane had parted he left to collect his mail, which he hoped would be ready.
