Vira arrived in the King's private chamber, where she had often visited him. She was around 6 months into her pregnancy, and wore a gown of white silk that was cinched just beneath the bust so that the skirt flowed loosely over her belly, and a hairnet of spun gold. She had taken care to make sure she looked fresh and pretty for the King, though she did not feel it at all these days. Vira's breasts were tender and swollen, and her lower back ached sometimes. Her feet had begun to swell a little, and ached, but she had chosen a gown with a long train specifically to hide the heavily cushioned but not particularly fashionable doeskin shoes she was wearing.
"Your Grace," she curtseyed before the king very slowly, so as to maintain her balance and manage her discomfort without compromising on the grace of the curtsey. Vira was filled with trepidation and fear, but her smile did not show it.

Ser Symon Buckler and Ser Moryn Stokeworth wait outside the king's chambers as they allow her entry into the solar, knowing the drill well enough at this point to leave His Grace alone with the young woman.
As she enters, King Maegor is not within his solar. His desk and chair by the fire are both vacant.
"In the bedroom, Lady Blackwood." she heard His Grace call from behind the adjacent door to his bedchambers.

She entered his bedchambers with a smile. "Lady Blackwood?" she said teasingly. "Does my King plan to execute my good-father and my good-brother? I'd mourn my good-father but certainly not that odious Patrek."

There was no answer and as she opened the door Vira was met with a grisly sight and stomach-churning smell. King Maegor was naked upon his bed, laying upon blood-drenched sheets. His bowels had been opened, throat slashed open, and face mangled. On the floor beside the bed was the murder weapon, Blackfyre, still caked in his blood and gore.

She had barely opened the door an inch before she saw the grisly sight. A flurry of thoughts crossed her mind, but when she opened her mouth, all that came out was a scream. "Guards!" Vira screamed, running out of the chambers. "Ser Symon! Ser Moryn! What have you been doing at your posts? The King is dead!"

The white knights burst through the door at the scream with swords unsheathed, eyes widening at the grisly sight. There was a moment of incredulous confusion before they rounded on the young woman, leveling their blades. Ser Symon struck her across the face with a mailed gauntlet, which left a gash upon her cheek.
"What have you done, whore?" Ser Moryn shouted. "By the Seven, what have you done?"

"Get your hands off of me," Vira snapped, not raising a hand to wipe the blood from her cheek. "I stepped into this room for one second, a small woman heavily with child, and you expect me to be able to kill a famous warrior who rides Balerion? Why were you given the honor of the Kingsguard if you are incapable of using your brains? Go and touch the body. I'll wager anything that it's been dead longer than five seconds."

"His Grace was alive a moment ago!" Ser Martyn snarled, doing nothing of the sort, reeling from the weight of his own failed duty. "If not for the babe in your belly, I would spill your guts here and now."

"Why?" Vira demanded. "Because I am witness to your dereliction of your duty? Pull yourself together man, and stop being foolish. We need to do two things immediately. Ser Moryn, I can't bend or do anything athletic so you had better help me. Move the furniture aside, open all the cabinets. There must be a secret passage through which the murderer escaped. Ser Symon, fetch the Queen immediately. She must be informed of this."

Ser Moryn did help her, but only to escort her by swordpoint towards the Black Cells. Both men were certain beyond a doubt that no one had been in the room before she entered, having made a sweep before her visit. Ser Symon did run to fetch the Queen, but only to inform her of Vira's regicide.
