Brandon nodded, and did a wide low sweep over the crowd, before flying after Aegon.

They flew a while longer, passing more travellers, who covered beneath the shadow of the dragons, until they saw a man on a foundering horse, who glanced up at them and whipped his horse bloody as he tried to flee.

"Land behind, I'll block his path." Brandon said flying ahead of the man, then executing a turn to cut him off, blocking the road with Aerion's bulk.

Glutton fairly shakes the earth with his landing, leaving the rider in the unenviable position of being trapped between two dragons.

The man swore and panicked as he saw Aerion. He wheeled his distressed horse back in the other direction.

"Best get off that horse," Aegon called out as the rider wheeled around toward him and Glutton. "We can be reasonable." It might be useful to take the man alive.

The man gasped at him and turned his horse left, off the road entirely. He was clearly determined not to surrender.

Brandon urged Aerion forward, and attempted to have the great white beast snatch the horse from its feet.

Brandon succeeds, the horse being carried into the air. The rider, screaming, clings to the horse. "Put me down put me down put me down!" He screamed in the Common Tongue.

"Qhoran!" Brandon hollered the wanted man's name. "I'll feed you to Aerion if you don't tell me what I want to know."
Aerion hovered in place his heavy wings buffeting the ground. If the man fell he would probably not die, but he would certainly not be running away either.

Qhoran clung to his horse sobbing. For a man who had committed terrible crimes, he was a real coward.

Brandon noted that there was a lot of that going around.
"Who engaged you to have the Prince assassinated. Was it the Magisters of Lys?" He asked. Aerion raised the horse towards his mouth, requiring Brandon to tug on the chains slightly to dissuade him.
"I suggest you tell me what I want to know before my mount gets bored..."

Qhoran clung to his horse as if to a lifeline. He wept as he spoke but Brandon managed to get the gist of his words. "Family of dead magister, yes. Friends with other magisters too. All want dragonlords dead, because of dead magister."

"I want names. Names of Magisters and friends of magisters." Brandon said. Aerion gave a howl, flecks of spittle and rotting flesh covering Qhoran.

"The Ormollens. The dragon prince killed Magister Ormollen. And...and....Magister Forellin." He shuddered and wept and clung to his horse, which seemed to be paralysed with fright.

Brandon just grunted. "You slew Staegone, and had your thugs rape his women." It was not a question.

Aegon let Brandon conduct the interrogation, but he shook his head with disgust as the killer wept and blubbered. Hector the Dragonbane he was not.

"I killed him," Qhoran agreed. "I never said to harm his women. But rough men do bad deeds. I said they could take what they wanted from his house. I don't give a fig for the Staegone bitches."

"I see." Aerion gave a snarl, clearly not appreciative of Qhoran's tone anymore than Brandon was. "We have made every effort to deal honorably with you people." he said, "We responded to an grevious insult with an honorable challenge. We won that challenge, and were threatened with murder. We responded to that threat in the appropriate way, and were met with poisons in the dark. Even now," Brandon said, his voice not raising, but with clear force behind his words, "Even now, I would be prepared to write the matter off as the nature of the dark art of diplomacy. But you people can not even manage to rise yourselves to the level of reputable...assassins." Brandon sighed. "Had you even a shred of decency, I would turn you lose to warn your masters of what the righteous vengeance they earned." He jerked the chains, and Aerion took off skyward.
"Instead.." he said as he gave Aerion a nudge with his knees, and the beast released its great claw around the horse's waist, and man and horse plummeted earthward.
"We shall tell them ourselves."

Qhoran smashed into the ground, the horse landing on top of him. Both man and horse died swiftly, though it was likely the horse would have died anyway.

Aegon dismounted and approached the bloody mess of man and horse. He knelt beside Qhoran and rooted around in the man's pockets and saddlebags, looking for anything incriminating or useful.

He finds some money and food but no incriminating papers. If Qhoran had anything of that nature, he left it behind.

Aegon's brow creased as he looked at the corpse. "This sort of thing has to stop. It seems we'll have to pay the Magisters of Lys another visit, though..." He frowned, realizing there was a question he had not asked. "Where are Rhaena and Arenya and grandmother? If they went on during my illness, I would wait for them before starting anything that might need end with force."

Brandon shook his head, "They moved on to complete whatever fool quest Rhaena and that crazy old bat had in the ruins of Valyria. If we wait for them to return, we may have to suffer through another assassination attempt, one which might be successful. I think we need to be bold. Perhaps we can convince the Volantenes that this was an insult to them as well. Between the three of us, adding Orys Storm who came with Arenya, we have three dragons. With a few Volanente sellswords on the ground, and that would be quite an imposing threat. The Magisters of Lys turn over the culprits for this act, and pay reparations, or they are held responsible for it. Seems more than fair considering."
