"I'll accept that, for this particular instance." Brandon said with a scowl that made clear he didn't like it. "Frankly you'd have been better off with my sworn oath, but have it your way."

"I apologize for the nuisance, though If it comes to having him detained, then you will be allowed your sword as well as what ever else you seem fit to question him." Jaes states. "I will make the necessary arrangements for him to attend dinner."

Brandon did not respond to Jaes' statement about what he would be allowed, as he gave it absolutely no weight.
"Very good. In the mean time, I will be with his grace," he said.

"Very well." Jaes states. "I will send the details to your room when the arrangements are made." He says as he watches the man leave. Once he was gone he writes up and invitation to Master Staegone, and has a slave run it over.

Brandon returned to the room and watched over Prince Aegon, letting Rolf get some rest.

Brandon wore a clean white gambeson, thickly padded for wearing beneath mail, which he had left off, over black breeches and boots. His only piece of adornment was a pin, white gold, of a dragon, which he wore at his throat. He gave a studied smile as he entered, before very decisively unbuckling his sword belt and hanging it over the back of his chair in a manner that did not betray the evening hours he had practiced drawing it from that very position.
"Master Azantys it is very charitable of you to allow me to attend this supper." He said, "I assure you as soon as my lord is well again we will be out of your hair."
He watched Staegone as he spoke but did not address him.

"There is no rush, it is a pleasure to continue hosting you through the illness of Prince Aegon, it is the least I can do for my honored quests." Jaes says taking a sip of wine, he turned his gaze to Staegone, "It has been awhile, since I have had the pleasure of your company, Master Methyso, how goes the wine business?"

"It is well enough," the merchant replied. He glanced uneasily at the knight of Westeros. "I did not know you were making friends with the West. Master Azantys. Have you a knight in your pocket now?"

"Ser Brandon here." Jaes states signaling the knight in white, "Is an honored guest of mine, he is here on duty as his lord has come down with an illness and must rest before he is fit to travel." Jaes says with a smile and a nod.

"Indeed. That is very sad." The smile didn't quite reach the wine merchant's eyes, though and he fiddled with his cutlery.

Brandon did not rise to the bait.
"Master Jaes tells me that you are deeply involved in all manner of fragrant liquids that come from Lys," Brandon said.

"So I am." The merchant shrugged. "Is that of interest to your people? Has the knight a fancy to turn trader? He reached for his wine.

"I do some trade on the side. But a knight deals in death." He gave the merchant a steady glare.
"But then of course, so do you." He said. He paused for several beats and eyed the man as he sipped from his wineglass.
"I reckon wine has lead to as many deaths as swords, after a fashion."

"It is hardly the seller's fault if men drink themselves to death, or if they drink to the point they become angry and wish to kill one another." He fastidiously dipped his fingers in the bowl of scented water to wash them. "You seem rather interested in my business, ser."

"Well I met a friend of yours," Brandon explained, "and he told me things about you I found fascinating."

His eyes widened and he choked on a morsel of food. A minute or two passed before he could speak, and there was a tremor in his voice as he did so.
"I am sure you could not possibly have met any friends of mine. How could you, when I have never met you before?"

Brandon smiled at the man, "Salladhor Lothar. Doesn't he deliver products for you?"

"I have no friends of that name." But he was clearly uneasy and got to his feet. "Excuse me, I must visit the privy. I feel the urge to vomit."

"So you can explain why Lothar had this invitation to go inside the wall, authored by you. I found it in his sleeve after I kicked him off a roof." Brandon said as he threw the invitation on the table.

Staegone cursed. His eyes were very frightened as he tried to back away. "That is clearly a forgery. I do not know this man."

"Come now Staegone," Brandon replied, "I'd have thought a professional merchant would be a better liar. Clearly you had no personal interest in this, Lothar said it was a contract job. Tell me who sought you out for it and we can finish our supper."

Jaes coughs slightly into his hand and as a result two of the unsullied that were lining the wall approach the wine seller and placing their hand's on his shoulders gently yet forcibly push the man back into his chair and sitting. "Master Staegone, surely you're not planning on leaving dinner so soon." He adds with a glance raising one eyebrow at his guest.

Staegone hunched down in his seat. He was plainly terrified of retribution. "Lys," he whispered. "It was the magisters of Lys. I have a friend in Lys, who is in the pocket of the magisters. It was to be revenge for the men who died in Lys recently."

"Specific magisters or on the orders of its government as a whole?" Brandon asked. "What is the name of your friend from Lys, and is he still in the city?"
