Markar had pulled away roughly, and stood with his back to her, not responding when she took his hand. "I- With Visenya I could not- I drank, certainly, but not that much..." his voice trailed off, and when he spoke again it was so quiet Vira almost could not hear him. "This has never happened before."

Maekar embraced Vira tightly, amazed once again that he could have won the love of such an amazing woman. Visenya had been more than a little mocking when they had been brought to Maekar's chambers, and he had thought his poor performance was merely the result of wine, but with Vira's words he felt the tug of suspicion inside him. He had never in his life been unable to perform, and no woman he had ever laid with had complained, explicitly or implicitly, about him in bed. "Who could have done this to me?" he murmured quietly, in a voice that Vira could tell was still filled with shame and embarassment.
