A grand temple frequented only by those who live within the protection of the Black Wall.

Aegon and Arenya arrive at the temple to the Valyrian gods. Aegon had never seen such a temple before, and examined its architecture curiously.

The temple was squat and round with ornate doors and walls of the same black stone as the Black Wall itself. It had a pointed roof. Innside, the ceilings are high and the walls are painted with frescoes of the gods. There are marble statues to each of the Valyrian gods.

Aegon entered slowly but curiously, gazing at the various frescoes and statues, each depicting dragons in a dizzying array of shapes and colors. He looked around for some sort of priest or officiant, or to see if anyone was worshiping today.

Arenya followed him in, her eyes wide as her smile. "This... Is a place of worship." She stared at the statues. "We know our history, but to see it in the flesh is... Beautiful."

There were a handful of worshippers and a priest in long robes who was audibly praying to Vhagar, though there seemed to be no official service at present. He saw another priest passing buy on some errand, and two novices as well.

Aegon's voice was hushed out of respect. "I am not sure what we should do... would it be disrespectful to approach one of the priests?" Aegon asked Arenya.

"Truthfully nephew, so am I", she grinned,"n but Im figuring as with all priests we can approach him to ask questions."
Arenya nudged him,"come on, what the worst the that could happen,?"

Aegon approached the priest praying to Vhagar and listened to his speech. "Do you have a moment for a pair of visitors?" Aegon asked once the prayer hit a lull.

The priest bowed low, palms pressed together in front of his body. "Certainly, honoured lord. All residents of the district are welcome to worship here, as are their guests. How may I be of service?"

"Ahh..." Aegon scratched the back of his head. "How? I mean, how is it done? We do not have temples where I hail from."

Arenya looked at her nephew, then the priest,"what he means is to ask is would you happen to know why our ancestors did not bring this religion to the west?"
"I know a great deal of the Gods, but we do not have a place of worship such as this in our home of Kings landing. "

"You are from Westeros then. I could not tell you why your ancestors did not bring the temples to your homeland. We have prayer books, of course, and rituals, the same as any religion. Magic is important too,f or those who possess the skills. Some of our temples, such as this one, are dedicated to all the gods, but some, particularly those in the outer city, are dedicated to one specific god, with priests and priestesses sworn to that particular god alone. I myself was formerly a devotee of Vhagar, and serviced in her temple in the outer city. My younger brother is sworn to great Balerion, my cousin is a priestess of Vermithor. " He looked from Arenya to Aegon and back again. "The service will begin soon, if you would like to see. Perhaps you should like to study the rites?"

Her face showed slight disappointment, how would she expect this priest to know all of that. "I would love to have some of those, if I can? To take back with me to Westeros."
"And magic, I do not practice myself but I believe my mother does practice. To what extent I do not know. She taught the things that she knew about the Gods, but we do not have priest like you in our home." THe thought of having books, she lightly touched them and smiled at the priest.
"Yes, we would like to stay for the service", she looked at Aegon smiling,"wouldn't you, nephew?"

"I will have a copy of some of our prayers written for you," the priest offered. "We have some very fine scholars here. The work they can do is most impressive. I am sure you will enjoy the illuminations." He smiled at her. "Please, take a seat and you need not wait very long."

"Thank you", she nodded to the priest and took her seat in a near the altar. Arenya looked at he nephew,"We both will learn something new today."
"Keep an open mind, Aegon", she then smiled at him.

After Arenya had been sitting there a few minutes, she saw her mother arrive. Laena walked straight-backed with a stately carriage, gazing straight ahead as she took her own seat close by. "I was surprised to learn you had come here," she remarked to the pair. "I did not think either of you loved the gods half as well as you ought."

"I've always been full of surprises, mother", she looked at her,"I did pay attention when you taught us."
"I beleived in them then and I believe in them now. Vhagar brought me victories in war, Meraxes kept me safe to live another day." Arenya slightly leaned over the seat to her mother's ear, whispering,"And Zyraxes has kept my love of my family strong, no matter what has happened to me over the years, and led me to bring your grandson here."
"I am devout to more than just a sword mother." Arenya then sat back and looked at Aegon with a small smile.

"I should hope so," Laena retorted. "Perhaps you should think to become a priestess of our ways, daughter." But the suggestion lacked her usual bite. "I prayed often for each of my children, and their children too. I am pleased to know that you did the same."

"Always mother, even in my waking hours", she sighed,"even for you.. To see me for more than a sword toting thug."
"And I wouldn't know how to be a priestess. We have no temples in Westeros."

"We do not. Perhaps we ought to have them. Let us see if we can find one or two priests who would like to make their home in Westeros. Then we could build a temple to honour all the gods. In time, when more priests and priestesses are trained, we may offer temples to each god individually, though I doubt I will live to see it. But we need that first tempel."

"That sounds like a very good idea, mother", she nodded. "That first temple could also help convert some of the people of the realm."
She looked at Aegon, then to her mother,"Overall it will be the decision of the King to further our religious beliefs."

"The king follows the true gods. He knows it is they who have led our house to glory," Laena remarked. "The two of you should use your best powers of persuasion to convince some priests to join us. I know well my own tongue is too sharp for the task."

"I was not speaking of Maegor, mother. I was speaking of Aegon. He knows nothing of our Gods, he must learn first before convincing anyone to follow them."
"If he does not believe, no one under his rule will." Arenya touched his hand slightly. "We'll first pray he has an open mind to receive the words first, then we can move forward."

"The grue gods deserve our worship," Laena insisted. "I am sure Aegon understands that. And he is not king yet." She gave her grandson a sharp look.
