"It was a matter of safety, Lady Maegyr," Aegon answered levelly. "The Lyseni mob lynched several of our messengers, killed one guardsman, and injured a number of others. They could not travel on dragonback with us, of course. Leaving them behind on their own would have been a death sentence to the men and women who loyally served us, so we did what we could to drive off the attacking mob." Aegon paused for a moment. "I should note that it was doubtlessly within the capabilities of Lys' city guard to contain the mob, but the magisters did not deign to do so."

Brandon fidgeted, containing an outburst of outrage.
"Lest your questioning gets off track, let's try to remember that they attempted to murder us." Brandon added acidicly, "Going on..." he counted on his fingers, "Three times."

"I understand that," Nyanna replied. "But the position must be absolutely clear. It cannot be said that Volantis has threatened Lys. The Lyseni cannot be permitted to wriggle out of their responsibilities. To ensure that does not happen, myself and my fellow triarchs must be certain that it was our good friends of Westeros who were wronged. I am sorry for all the questions, and I am now satisfied that they have been answered. So...how do you wish us to proceed? A deputation to Lys would be suitable, I am sure."

Brandon looked at the Prince. He wasn't entirely sure was a deputation was, but he imagined the Volantenes were trying to take the weak way out.

"Words are well and good, but the Lyseni will not listen unless there is a showing of strength and a threat of force behind them," Aegon replied. "Our dragons speak for themselves, but even so we are only a handful of individuals. But with a force of Volantene swords behind us as well, Lys would be forced to stop and take notice. That, my lady, is the right tone to set at the negotiations. And of course such a gesture would be well remembered by Westeros. An alliance with the last remaining dragonriders in the world would be a good thing for both Volantis and the Tigers, would it not?"

"That may well be so," Nyanna agreed. "Our friendship with Westeros is important to Volantis, and I can see that you were grievously insulted by Lys. I can accept these terms."

"Very good," Aegon replied. "It heartens me to know that Westeros has such a good friend in Volantis, and we shall not soon forget it. We will give you time to figure out the particulars on your end, then meet your forces at the harbor."

"Indeed. It will take a few days to be arranged. I am sure you will understand that our ships cannot be mobilised without notice."

"Of course," Aegon replied, "I will recover my strength and we will make preparations of our own." Aegon stood. "A pleasure as always, Triarch."

She smiled and stood as well, bidding them both farewell for the moment.
