Aegon nodded slowly, though he still frowned. "Have I made a mess out of this, Ser? I wondered why it was I was assigned to this task. I have no training as a diplomat, and the subtleties of court continuously elude me."

"If the ways of these foreign courts elude you my grace, I count that as a solid mark in your favor," Brandon said dryly. "I fail to see what other options were presented to us then our present course."

"I saw no alternative either," Aegon mulled. "And yet it all seems so senseless and avoidable. I suppose that is the nature of politics." It seemed to leave a sour taste in his mouth, and he paused a moment before changing the subject. "Tell me what the North is like, Ser. It and the Iron Islands are the only parts of our realm I have never been to."

"Vast, your grace. That's the best word for it." Brandon said, "sparse, and cold. Both the terrain and the people. A hard, serios people, but good, in their fashion. If you've no desire to be bothered, that's the place for you."

The Volantenes were led by one of Nyanna Maegyr's brother, a close associate of the Volantene High Admiral, deputising for him on this occasion. The Westerosi men saw a man a few years younger than Nyanna, handsome and clothed in silks, with a woman on his arm. "Are we ready to go?" He asked the two.

Brandon examined the woman, "I believe we are, Ser. Who, may I ask, accompanies you?"

"I speak for myself," the woman said, eyeing Brandon with open curiosity. "We are lovers, Captain Maegyr and I. As for me, my name is Marcia."
Captain Maegyr wrapped his arm around the woman's waist. She was reasonably pretty but not the sort of woman to drive a man wild. "Now that is out of the way, let us proceed. Will a dozen ships be suitable? My sister, our good triarch, fears that a larger number would be perceived as a declaration of war."

Brandon looked at the man and woman and just shook his head.
Foreigners.
He looked at Aegon regarding the questions of ships.

Jaes stands on the docks, overseeing the loading of the ship that was supposed to be his ride east. His slaves had already carried his personal belongings onto the boat, and were now starting to transfer the many books that he had collected and studied throughout the years all pertaining to the study of dragons and the lore that accompanied them.

His brother Geoffroi sauntered down to the docks. "So you're really off then? That's rather a lot of books, you know. And yet you never seemed to be such a great reader. He grinned. "A pity our friends from Westeros have long gone. But I'm sure you'll be seeing them again, one day, if Vermithor does not snatch you away."

"Word from the west is that the King is dead. Hopefully it might be awhile until our noble friends set their gaze east again." Jaes states turning to face his brother. "The books are necessary if I am to find what I am looking for, plus, its a long journey and I'm going to have nothing to do but read the entire time, if the weatherman's predictions are right."

"True enough. Do you have anything that needs to be taken care of in Volantis? I'll act as your deputy if need be. Will you be able to send word, do you think?" Geoffroi seemed rather dubious about that, since Jaes' plans were extremely risky.

"Carry on the family business as normal until my return. Have faith in your skills brother, you are capable of providing our family the leadership that it needs until I have returned."

"I will keep our family safe and prosperous," Geoffroi promised. "Look after yourself, Jaes. Don't be reckless."

"Of course not brother, this is but a surveying expedition." He states with a sly smile. "I do not plan on staying for any longer then I have too." He adds as the slaves finish loading the boat with the books.

"Gods protect you then," Geoffroi said, and then departed.

Jaez waved his brother goodbye then boarding the ship, commanded the captain to set sail east.
