"What scout would let themselves be seen? Would make themselves obvious by entering a village in the light of day?" Daenya asked, her tone disbelieving. "I came by dragon because it was the quickest and easiest way. It is true I have ridden this dragon in war but that is not why I am here. If you cannot... comprehend this, then I am sorry."
She smiled and entered her room.

The next day, Alayaya came to Daenya's room. She was accompanied by a young woman carrying a bundle of silks.
"I have some questions for you, Princess."

Daenya was busy trying to read a book she had found and not doing very well, only knowing few words of the Summer Island tongue.
She looked up when Alayaya entered. "Please, go ahead and ask," She said, setting the book down.

"Why did you not come with an entourage of guards and servants, as is proper for a princess? Or so it is here. I do not know how princesses travel in Westeros. Was it so very important to come here swiftly?"
Her expression gentled. "Have you run away from home, princess?"

Daenya's features became unreadable for a moment, before softening as well. "Not quite, though perhaps I wanted to leave the place for a while. Had I brought guards I would have needed a ship, which would have taken too long. I wished to explore, and that is best done alone."
She studied the silks. "What are those for?"

"You are too young to be in a strange country without a proper entourage," Alayaya said bluntly. "I do not think your companion, Lady Dondarrion, is the kind of woman who ought to be a chaperone. She has already lain with the man who guards our door, and drunk an entire bottle of good wine. It would have been better for you to come by ship. But no matter now. The silks are for you. You cannot go before the king dressed as you are. You must be dressed properly."

"Apparently I was deemed old enough by my father," Daenya countered, playing with a strand of her hair before pushing it away from her face. "As for Adara... she is someone to be watched, if only that she tends to corrupt those around her."
She had to suppress a wince at what had happened in the woman's chambers. Instead she smiled. "Silk, hmm? What sort of... dress, if you will, shall I wear?"

"You may choose a robe such as women wear here, or a dress from your homelands. The seamstress can do either. But you are not to see the king unless you are suitably dressed."

"I will pick a dress from my homeland then, though with a certain flair," Daenya said, smiling. "It should be flowing, though show arms and back, some of the chest too." She remembered how hot she had been in her other dress.
"And have the skirt made very short - I do not wish to sweat before the king," She added, her smile widening a little. "What jewellery do you wear?"

"Whatever we wish. I can have someone escort you to the market to choose something. Can you draw a picture of the dress? Which colour would you like?"
There were many colours in the bundle of silks that had been brought for her to choose from.

"Hmmm, just find me some jewellery that you would think would fit me, though I have my own earrings."
She poured herself some wine and drank. "As for the dress itself, crimson for my house, with some black. I can draw it if you like, though it will be a simple sketch. I am no great artist."

"It will help, nonetheless. You may bathe, if you would like."
Pen and paper are brought for Daenya, as well as a meal of fruit and fish, with more of the amber wine.

Daenya ate some fruit before sketching out the dress she had in mind, better than she expected. "A bath would be nice," She commented, helping herself to some wine. "How long will the dress take?"

"Two days, I believe. While you are here you should try to learn something of our ways."

"I will wait until I have spoken to the king, thank you," Daenya replied with a light shake of the head. "After all, it he who chooses whether I am a prisoner of sorts or not."

"As you wish." Though Alayaya seemed disappointed.
Daenya was thus left to her own devices for the next few days, though not allowed to leave the establishment.

////////////
A few days after her visit to the palace, Daenya wandered the streets of Lotus Port, wanting to see more of the city. She had decided to show a more marshal edge this day and with her belongings returned to her was able to do so. She wore a pair of tight black breeches which she had modified to have most of the legs cut off, to compensate for the heat, as well as show her legs. Her new golden belt was tight around her waist, sword synched to it, and she wore a black tunic with her personal emblem sewed over her heart.
Her hair was in two braids again, a small golden circlet adorning her head. To complete the look she had decided to put black around her eyes and gold gloss on her lips, her feet safe in some knee high black boots.

She was accompanied by Koja, who was apologetic after all that had happened, and who was frightened that the king would punish her family if she wasn't able to make amends with Daenya. So she insisted on accompanying Daenya "Where would you like to go? Do you want to see the temple? Or I could show you the gardens."

"The temple I won't visit yet," Daenya replied, one hand on the pommel of her sword in a relaxed manner as they walked along. "The gardens sound nice however, so we should visit them." She smiled at her companion.

Koja's nerves abated as the princess smiled at her. "I love the gardens. There are fruit trees and pretty fish swim in the ponds and there are wonderful places to sit in the sun. There is no place more beautiful. And there are little grottoes too."

"Perhaps a look at the grottoes would be fun; I am feeling adventurous," Daenya told Koja as they wandered the streets. "Perhaps after we will get some rum somewhere?"

"We can do that. My favourite grotto has beautiful stones stuck into the walls. It's very pretty. And there's shells on the outside of one."
Koja paused, thinking. "Sometimes there's dancers doing a show in the gardens, and men doing the spear dance, and sometimes music too. The dancers are my favourite. And we get lots of travellers for all over the world. You see all sorts of costumes."

"Well then what are we waiting for?" Daenya said cheerfully, motioning for Koja to lead the way. "The speardance sounds interesting, though I assume it involves actual spears," She joked, giggling a little.

"Of course it does. They throw spears and have to catch them and jump over them. Sometimes there's a fire to leap as well, if they are good dancers." Koja grinned as she started towards the gardens. "But even here there are thieves. So be careful with your nice belt."

"I will be," Daenya replied, beginning to keep an eye out for anyone who passed them. She begun to whistle a melody as they went to the gardens, taking in the sights while they walked.
