The chambers of the Red Priestess. A fireplace holds a fire that is always kept lit, which keeps the room uncomfortably smoky for most guests. Thick, coloured jars with strange oddities in them sit on the shelves, as well as many large old tomes written in a tongue that few in this kingdom would even recognise, never mind understand. Red silks and cloths hang from the ceilings along the walls, giving the room the style of almost a high class pleasure house.

A knock comes at the door. Sarena rises from her chair by the fire and opens it.

Princess Daenya stands without, wearing a pretty white and silver dress.
"Greetings, sorceress," She says with a smile. "May I come in?"

Sarena smiled at how she was addressed by this young voice.
"Certainly, you may," she replied, opening her door further and motioning inside.
"Whom do I have the pleasure of welcoming as my first guest in my new chambers?"

"Oh, sorry," Daenya said, suddenly embarrassed. "Princess Daenya; I don't think we have actually met before but I have heard much of you."

"Well then little princess, you should tell me much of yourself, so that we are on fairer terms," she said in a friendly yet somewhat removed tone.
Easily making her own way around the chambers, she moved over to a cabinet and opened it. "Would you care for honeyed milk or watered wine?"

"Honeyed milk please," Daenya said, finding a seat and sitting down. "Well, what do you wish to know? My dragon is named Vandaras and I flew him to battle in the recent war. I even fought personally against the Dragonbane but he... well, I wasn't good enough."

She took some honey from the cabinet and spooned it into a mug. Then she fetched some milk from a jar sitting on the window sill to keep it cool. She mixed it together than handed it to Daenya.
"Quite an adventure for one so young, you must be fearless to face such a foe. Do not be disappointed that this Dragonbane bested you, the fires that forge us will be made of both success and defeat. Every hardened warrior has tasted of both."

"I guess you are right, sorceress," Daenya replied, taking the milk and sipping at it.
"Thank you. Well, I... I came to see you for a specific reason. Are you aware of... my affliction?"

"I am not," she replied, taking a seat opposite the girl.

"Well, I sometimes... become someone else," Daenya said, choosing the simplest explanation. "She is mean and spiteful and I am forced to remember everything she does."

"We all become someone else, sometimes. I have terrible memories and I sometimes ask myself 'who was that person, who did that thing?', though I can't truly say I would not make the same choice again, if it was put to me once more. But I appreciate that is not exactly what you mean."

Daenya nodded. "I... I spoke to the other sorceress, Kesi, about it but she was..." Daenya thought long and hard about what had happened.
"She was not able to help me really. I want the other me to go, for ever."

"Perhaps it can not, sweet one," she answered softly, "many are born with afflictions, and all want rid of them, but wanting can only serve to make it more painful." She put a hand to her eyes.
"When I opened my door to you, you named me sorceress, I fear that may have given you false hope. I am a priestess to the Lord of Light, my powers are his will. You could only be cured by me if he wanted it to be so."

Daenya bit her lip, wondering at that. "The Lord of Light..." She said, almost a whisper. "Who is he? I know of my own gods, the true gods of Valyria, as well as the cursed Seven. There are Old Gods too, I think, in the North."

"There are many gods in many different lands, young one. Gods who are kind and gods who are cruel, gods who are powerful, gods who are weak, indifferent gods and inexplicable gods, but above them all is the oldest and greatest of them, and his name is R'hllor. He who wages battle eternal against The Great Other, the cold god of death, who takes from us happiness and leaves only despair."
"R'hllor is warmth and life, hope and power. He is the heart of fire, the god of flame and shadow, he is all that stands between us and night unending."
The fire in the fireplace danced and hissed loudly as she spoke.

"If he is the oldest of the gods, then... then he must be powerful," Daenya said, though still sounding a little skeptical. "Have you seen any of this R'hllor's powers? I mean... could he... end my affliction if he wanted?"
When the fire hissed Daenya gave a small gasp, feeling hotter than she had before.

"R'hllor's powers are indeed great, I have seen them and felt them through me. Should he choose to end your affliction he could in a moment." Her fingers played at the fire, and the flames seemed to reach up to them as if a pet trying to lick its master.

Daenya gasped again, though not as loud as the first time. "The flames..." She whispered, quickly drinking some more milk.
"I have prayed countless times to the gods of Valyria, yet they never answered... maybe your god is different..."

"R'hllor will not come to your beck and call, he will not serve you and he will give you naught for nothing. He wants your service and your sacrifice, and if you are devoted to him, and it is of use to him to do so, he will rid you of your affliction."

Daenya bit her lip, for a moment deep in thought. "Sacrifice... how would one serve R'hllor?" She finally asked, hoping she would not have to lose her eyesight. She had in truth never heard of this god though she was not afraid of fire - if he was a god of fire then she would feel proud serving him.

"By opening your mind to him, by accepting his power and allowing him to do his work on earth through you. By casting aside false, lesser gods, and spreading his word. You must become his sword, his shield and his rallying horn. You must be his light in the darkness, his warrior of life. Can you be these things?"

"I... I..." Daenya chewed on her lip, closing her eyes. She didn't know, wasn't sure if she could abandon her gods. "I... I will need to think on it, so-priestess," She replied, quickly correcting herself. "Is that... is that okay?"

Sarena nodded. "No important decision should be made lightly, and this is the most important of decisions. Go think on this, search you heart, stare into the fire and find your answers."

"I shall," Daenya said in a small voice, giving the faintest of nods. She quickly finished her milk and rose.
"Thank you for your time... I will... I will be back soon."
She turned and did all she could to stop herself from running out of the chambers, leaving instead at a brisk pace.
