The dragon-sized doors of the Dragonpit tended to stand closed, though the smaller man-sized door to the side of them was open and guarded by a pair of Goldcloaks. As Vira landed outside the Dragonpit, a young man with silver-gold hair and a black eye-patch over his right eye walked through the doorway and out into the sun. Vira noticed with a start that his left hand was also missing, though despite that he was dressed finely, in black trimmed with red. At his hip hung a longsword, with a black hilt and a crystal shaped like a seven-pointed star set in the pommel.

The man smiled momentarily, and Vira judged that it gave him pleasure to be addressed as Prince, and she could see his one eye move appraisingly up and down her body. "I am no prince, my lady," he replied, with a courteous bow. "I am Ser Maekar Dragonstone, newly created Lord of Darkheart and natural son of King Maegor II," he replied.
"I have heard of Aegerys' prowess, however," he said, using the Dragon's given name rather than its colloquial moniker. "You must be brave indeed to have attempted to bond him."

Maekar flicked a glance to the dragon, and a smile touched his lips. He held his hand up to Vira, and helped her down from the dragon's back, looking down at her once her feet were on the ground. "I imagine he is not accustomed to the confines of the Dragonpit," he said with a chuckle, "nor would I be, if I had lived all my days in freedom under the sky. Cyrax, too, is rather... troublesome when I have reason to lodge him here. I always end up having to pay the Goldcloaks for the extra trouble, though I would hardly call myself a master dragon tamer," he added.
He kissed her hand lightly, with a small flourish. "It is my pleasure to meet you, Vira Dragonseed," he said formally, gesturing to the Goldcloaks guarding the Dragon-door. They hurried to begin opening it, a process which would take a few minutes. While they labored, Maekar lookd back to Vira. "Perhaps, when Aegerys has found a cave to his liking, you will permit me to escort you back to the castle. Has his grace the King given you leave to stay Maegor's Holdfast? If he has not, if you've the coin I can reccomend a few taverns of good repute on Aegon's hill, not far from the Keep itself."

"I was born on Dragonstone, and did not leave there until my tenth year when I was sent to serve as a page at the court of my great-grandfather, King Maegor I. I remained at court when I became his squire as well, but I was knighted after I bonded Meraxes and from there I went almost immediately to war," he replied, meeting her gaze evenly. "And you? Where do you come from? I believe I can hear the northern Crownlands on your tongue, if I am not mistaken?"

"They are much like men in that way, it takes a strong soul to bend a dragon's will to your own. Thought it has been two years, I am often surprised by Cyrax' unpredictability, and I rode a dragon for six years before I even bonded him," Maekar replied. Seeing that the dragon had made himself at home relatively quickly, however, he offered his right elbow to Vira chivalrously. "Shall we go to the castle?"

"I cannot claim to be an expert on the subject of dresses, my lady," he replied, unable to see her expression as she walked beside him on his blind side. "But I would glady accompany you all the same. It would not do, to present yourself to the King in such a garment, or else you will have all the ladies of the court wearing roughspun wool in emulation of you," he said as they walked.
He knew the way to the tailors' district, where the majority of the city's seamstress shops and dressmakers were located, and led the way, though once there he allowed Vira to lead them to Mistress Bella's shop specifically.
