"Oh," she said lamely, thinking of Taena and her service to the Princess Dowager. "That is unfortunate. But I do understand, in a way. I live also at the King's mercy."
Silverwing swung her head back around with renewed interest at Maekar's invitation, as though she did in fact understand human speech. "We would be delighted to accompany you, Ser. That is, if Cyrax won't mind?" She wiped the look of melancholy from her face and flashed him a brilliant smile. He was handsome, if you looked past his missing hand. The eyepatch was rather dashing, she thought, and all the attention he paid her was oh so flattering.

"I am sure Cyrax would not mind the open sky," Maekar replied dryly, returning her smile. He looked around the Dragonpit for a moment, locating his own dragon, before he slowly stepped closer to Silverwing, gesturing for several of the men who worked in the pit to fit on the dragon's saddle. When they had finished, Maekar held his hand out to Visenya to help her climb onto the dragon's back. "Wait until I will fly out first, Lady Visenya, and then follow me afterward."

She let him help her up (though she didn't need it, she did fancy being percieved as a delicate flower of sorts) and nodded when he gave instructions. "I'll follow you." Silverwing was eager to go, the cave in which she was confined being too small for her liking. Visenya calmed the creature and waited for Maekar and Cyrax to go.

Maekar moved smoothly across the pit to where Cyrax lay, deftly climbing into the dragon's saddle and doing his chains. He urged the dragon forward, and it moved awkwardly on wings and legs until it reached the massive doors. There, Cyrax spread his massive black wings and beat them in the air, taking flight in a few powerful strokes. The black dragon shot into the air and began to climb, circling above the Dragonpit. After a few minutes, Visenya judged it appropriate to take flight herself.

Visenya watched the dragon take off appreciatively. She loved watching them move, such fierce things they were. She waited til the time was right and then she urged Silverwing forward, the white dragon launching herself behind the great black beast. Visenya leaned into the wind, relishing the feel of being lifted into the air. She urged Silverwing onward, spiraling upward higher and higher, laughing girlishly in delight. After they had gone quite high enough, Visenya directed the dragon to seek out Cyrax and to follow.

The Little Dread flew north from the city heading over the walls, and Maekar directed him slightly ahead of Visenya and to the right, so he could see her when he turned his head. When they were a few miles north of the capital, Cyrax suddenly flared his wings vertically, stopping him in mid-air so that Silverwing shot ahead, though he resumed normal flight a second later, moving deftly through the air so he flew on the smaller dragons' wing, slightly behind it and to the right.
"Lead the way, Lady Visenya, though we ought to be back in the Red Keep by nightfall," he called to her.

"Very well!" she called back, turning her head so her voice was not entirely lost in the wind. Her long hair whipped about behind her like a silver pennant as Silverwing turned suddenly west and dove down above the trees of the Kingswood. The dragon stopped a little ways above, sending leaves in a flurry with every beat of her great wings. Sharply, the beast rose again, clearly enjoying the freedom to stretch her wings properly. After quite some time, she called to him again. "Shall we put down in this clearing?"

Maekar nodded, and swooped down toward the ground, though he circled slightly above the clearing until Visenya landed and dismounted, before doing the same himself. The bags on Cyrax's saddle still contained a basic kit for making camp, as well as some hard cheese and black bread, and some strips of smoked and salted meat, having been packed for a flight from King's Landing to Darkheart the following day.
"I imagine it is quite nice to get out of the city once in a while," he said, walking up to Visenya when they were both on the ground. "I can't stand the place myself. The smell above all," he added, making a face.

"Luckily, I am confined to the nicer-smelling parts of the city," she laughed, making light of her imprisonment. "I do love this forest," she added, looking up at the canopy of green overhead. "Its so beautiful and serene here. Sometimes I like to be away from everyone. You can't do that in the castle." She moved slightly closer to him, making sure to stand on his good side.
"So...I heard you have been granted a Lordship. Why didn't you correct me when I kept naming you Ser?"

"It would have been impolite," Maekar said, smiling down at her. "In truth, it is a newly given title and I am unused to it. I have been merely Ser for a long time." He was acutely aware how close she was, and the way her hair was blown about from the wind, giving her an artful beauty that was in sharp contrast to the carefully arranged styles often worn at court.

"Well, my Lord Maekar, we shall have to get you used to it." She noticed him looking at her and ran a hand through her tangled ringlets. "Is something the matter? Have I something on my face?"
