Brandon was thankful that the King had halted his command. If you went about cutting the tongues of every woman who said something crazy, one's work would never end, and frankly it was not for that reason he carried a sword. He watched the girl cautiously. While he was frankly more frightened for her, than of her, one never knew what actions the desperate might take.

Kesi found this rather amusing as she watched. She had avoided the throne room before - too many dragons for her liking, but this made her almost glad she had ventured out.

Vira bowed very deeply. "Please forgive this one, Your Grace. I am unused to the ways of court and I misspoke. I am deeply sorry."

"We have been counseled as of late on the merits of mercy once fear has been established." Maegor said with a sigh, violet eyes falling momentarily on his Lord Commander. "The value of his advice will be judged worthy or not by your future behavior in these halls, as long as Adara sees fit to keep a lowborn pet."

"I understand, Your Grace," Vira bowed again.

As Vira turned to walk away, her arm brushed very noticeably and obviously against a pillar, leaving a smudge of blue paint.

Maegor glanced curiously at the smudge of paint as she departed, but ushered the next petitioner forward.

Sarena Vani'ani entered the throne room when court was in session, she presented herself to the clerk for a moment of the king's attention.

"How shall I announce you, my lady?" the clerk asked, giving the strange foreign woman a queer look.

"I am Sarena, of the house of Vani'ani from Bashai, servant to the Lord of Light," she said, favouring the clerk with a small smile that that countered the effect of her cloudy eyes.

The clerk did not meet her eyes, but announced her nonetheless. Even from atop the massive Iron Throne, a curious expression was apparent on King Maegor II's face as the sorceress was ushered forward before him.

The clerk did not meet her eyes, but announced her nonetheless. Even from atop the massive Iron Throne, a curious expression was apparent on King Maegor II's face as the sorceress was ushered forward before him. Sarena bowed her head before the king then looked up straight at him. "Your Grace, you are good to grant this one an audience. I have travelled far to be here, yet I pray you will not see anything sinister in my motives. I am a priestess of R'hllor, and I bring word of him to you and your people."

"Perhaps word has not reached the far corners of the world, but our kingdom currently is currently blighted by a surplus of religions zealots." the king replied evenly, his voice carrying down. "We have no need of another."

Sarena nodded. "I had heard of your troubles with the Faith of the Seven, a distressing affair for a kingdom to go through. I promise you I am no zealot who presumes authority above that of a king, I only come to bring truth and healing to your people."
The torches in the throne room seemed to flicker all at once when she finished speaking, then returned to normal.

"What truth is it you think we need, that is not already provided?" he queried, though his tone had no menace.
He had no visible reaction to the torches flickering in their sconces, though the light reflected in his violet eyes.

"The truth of R'hllor," she said her pale eyes somehow meeting his purple ones. "Of his power and of his protection. Some gods only grant pomposity and hubris to their devotees, and some give so much more."
This time the flames in the torches seemed to grow slightly brighter as she spoke.

"What use would we have for R'llor's power and protection?" he inquired. "When we have the Valyrian pantheon and are more gods then men ourselves?"
From his words it was clear that hubris was not a trait of worshippers of the Seven alone.

"I would not presume to tell a king nor a god what use he may find for such things, I am a simple priestess. The gifts of the Lord of Light can be great, for he is generous to those whose devotion is true. The power to see what may come to pass may not interest a man who fears nothing, and life-everlasting will not interest a god, but there may be some among your subjects who would be drawn to such a promise instead."
The flames grew a bit stronger again, and the room grew a bit warmer.

Many of the gathered courtiers began sweating as the room warmed, though His Grace seemed quite comfortable.
"Many charlatans have made similar promises in the past. They no longer have liar's tongues with which to insult us with deceit. Only one thusfar has not been found wanting."

"I am no fool maegi, and you are no fool, Your Grace," she replied, her voice becoming gravelly and deep. "My tongue is yours to take should it offend you, but until then it will tell you no lies. R'hllor works through me, in me, of me, to bring wonders unto the world, and I have breathed the fire of life back into a man before, and seen him rise as if from sleep. I pray you will one day have an opportunity to feel the blessings of the Lord of Light, for there is a flame that burns inside you brighter and hotter than any I have felt before."

"We will grant you a room in the keep until your abilities can be properly evaluated." His Grace replied, more intrigued by her claims of power than her words of flattery.

She smiled evenly at the king. "Your Grace is more than fair, R'hllor will see that." She bowed her head and waited to be dismissed.

Vira took a break from Princess Daenya's celebration, to present herself in the throne room, in the same green lace gown that Maekar had helped her choose earlier that day. She walked a little straighter as she entered, and seemed even more sure of herself, than she had on her first visit. As she entered, she told the herald to announce her as "Lady Vira".
